[Clearing his throat a little, Llewellyn tried to think of where to start, he’s been snooping around for a few days and compiling some notes.]
Hello! I’m sure everyone is rather used to these sorts of broadcasts now, but uh— I’ve only just arrived in the last few days. My name is Llewellyn Watts-Maresh, to get introductions out of the way.
I’ve been catching up on the goings on already, seems like there’s a lot going on right now that I’d like to offer my assistance with. So! I’ll skip directly to the main point of my broadcast.
While this world is a significant improvement on my last... I’m finding myself in need of a starting point. I’m accustomed to having an office to work from, but I don’t believe I’ll have the funds to open something myself from the start. Is there possibly a private investigation firm already that would be looking for a detective? I… don’t need much space. I’ve gotten used to taking my work outdoors in the past, but a desk to keep my notes and work at on occasion would be appreciated.
[And he paused, humming a little as he mulled over a secondary thought he’d been playing with since he arrived.]
That aside, I’m also knowledgeable with floriography. Even if this worlds is different from my own, I’m a fast study. I’ve had practice in making arrangements for various meanings and occasions, and before I was pulled here I was dabbling in gardening…? So if anyone is looking for some part-time help there, I wouldn’t mind doing that on the side. I uh— I like to keep busy.
[And if he and his husband ever do figure out how to purchase a home, he knows they’ll need the money for it. Being cooped up in a small apartment is not ideal long term.]
Mm… That should do it, thank you.
2 - Historium
Llewellyn might have been a little slower to get here than he normally would have been, too distracted with this new world and getting his feet under him. But any sort of library was a good starting point to see what kind of references were available when you wanted to investigate and learn more about certain things about a place that might not be readily available through word of mouth. Or things that were just easier to find out on your own, as he was prone to doing.
It was… a lot more disorganized than the last giant library he’d frequented, but that actually wasn’t a big issue for the detective. His thought process already tended towards the chaotic and scattered, so he actually felt rather at home in the place. It wasn’t hard to start at one shelf, scan the titles, and grab something before he continued onward.
Anyone around the Historium would see Llewellyn either with a few books under his arm, or sitting on a table (using the chair as a footrest) and leafing through a selection curiously. Once in a while, he’d stop, jot a few thoughts down in messy scrawl in his notebook, and then continue reading…
He’s not so absorbed in his task that he doesn’t notice anyone else around him. Llewellyn could be quite paranoid and didn’t enjoy being surprised, so unless you’re particularly sneaky, he would be quite aware if someone were to approach…
3 - Market
There were several places that Llewellyn could be guaranteed to be found if you needed him. The first being where ever he worked (he truly was a workaholic at times), with his husband (obvious, perhaps), and the market… The last being because Llewellyn usually found himself in need of a snack every few hours, he tended to think better on a full stomach and his metabolism was rather high given how little he sat around.
It was also his other go to for making contacts and gathering information on a place. People talked, especially shop and food stall employees. They saw or heard about everything going on in the city, after all, and if you were a frequent enough customer, they tended to appreciate your business enough to be on friendly terms.
Given this was another new world… Llewellyn was starting from scratch. So over the course of his first few weeks in this place, through the day, he’d take a stroll through the market whenever he was feeling hungry. Every time he’d stop somewhere, he’d take a few minutes to chat and get to know the person working, he might not remember names right away, but if he stopped there frequently enough he’d start to commit things to memory (and he certainly wrote more important conversations down).
If approached, Llewellyn would actually be quite happy to talk, as long as no one minded his snacking… He’d even offer to share.

For Yuki- Continuation from TDM
Llewellyn’s expression perked up when he heard a voice responding through the device. It was still a bit weird. He’d gotten so used to just having voice and images transmitting right to his mind that having some kind of phone again was something to adjust to. Absentminded, he rubbed the area behind his ear where the device used to be implanted before he picked up the phone.
At least it didn’t have wires like phones in his time... It was portable, though anyone who knew the detective would probably know to expect him to lose it. “Earthquakes... That’s at least somewhat normal for a world, though still unfortunate. Do they do much damage?”
He’d been in earthquakes before, once or twice, but there was something so normal about them that was a little bit of a relief compared to some of the things that happened in the last world he’d been in. That’s not to say his concern hadn’t risen at the mention of monsters.
It hit him, almost belatedly, that Yuki had used the term. “Monsters? Would you be able to uh— clarify on that a little? Like are they something like a living nightmare, or something more real?” Or a mix of the two, he supposed...
no subject
"Damage..well it's more like they seem to..uncover more parts of the city that weren't there before." Mentally he cringed knowing how weird it sounded. But at the same time it was really the way it was and there wasn't any point to lying about it. After all the man would discover it himself at one point or another as it had happened a few times while he was here.
But as far as the monsters..again honesty. "I'm sorry sir..but monsters are just that. There was a demon bear awhile back that suddenly appeared." And fortunately he didn't give away any of the sorrow of what that damn thing did. Which was why there was someone he needed to contact.
no subject
“Uncover more parts of the city. So… It’s more like the world is suffering some sort of strange growing pains. How odd.” That was definitely not what Llewellyn expected to hear concerning earthquakes, and yet… Things appearing in a world that weren’t there before? Not a first, so while it’s still pretty weird, it’s better than things being destroyed or disappearing. Unless that was coming… It had last time. He frowned lightly to himself, adjusting his hold on the tellphone. “How large-scale are these additions? Are they fully formed, and how does the local population react to them?”
Sorry, Yuki. Llewellyn was the sort to ask a lot of questions, and trying to get his feet under him in a strange new world was a priority. For all he was happy to be here, he didn’t want to be caught off guard too badly this time if he could help it.
The subject of monsters get’s an awkward sigh, yup. There was the other shoe, he supposed. But this was still good information, the more he and Rhy knew to be mindful of, the better. “Don’t be sorry, there’s no need.” He responded, a tad bluntly… He had a bit of a knee-jerk reaction when it came to being apologized to, he’d been working on that. His tone softened a bit, “It’s better that I know now than later when it’s too late. I’ll need to find somewhere I can do some reading on the subject, if I can. I don’t suppose you’d have a recommendation?” He offered, trying to lighten his voice a little.
Belatedly… Something else struck him. Sir… Llewellyn was vaguely reminded of a colleague that was prone to defaulting to ‘Sir.’ It made him a little nostalgic, but the point was that he’d forgotten to give this helpful stranger is name. “Oh— and I forgot, I should introduce myself. My name is Llewellyn Watts-Maresh.”
no subject
Of course he had gone to see the new additions along with everyone else but it was as he'd said. No one acted like anything was amiss, not even the guard.
At the query for a recommendation though, Yuki could definitely provide one. "There's a library on what seems to be almost the outskirts of town, and a Historium in town. Those are the main places that people go to for information. But I think I saw someone trying to set up a bookstore somewhere near the center of town where people first show up."
Hearing the name was a small surprise, but it was a nice one and he was of course polite enough to reciprocate in kind. "It's nice to meet you. My name is Yuki Sohma."

Watts? Is that you?

Still, it’s not a voice he expected to hear again, so he’s quite excited himself. You can practically hear the delighted grin in his tone,]
Presumably, unless I’ve been replaced by an imitation with the same memories. [He’s… attempting a joke?] It’s so good to hear your voice though, Harry. It would seem more than a few of us have found ourselves above sea level?
[And he’s so relieved by that detail.]
no subject
Hey, considering this is the second time something like this has happened to me, us I guess, I wouldn't eliminate that as a possibility.
[But knowing Watts was here actually made this easier to deal with? Maybe there was some sort of order to the world (worlds?) after all.]
Yeah, and I can't tell you how glad I am to see a real sun.

~The End~
Market
Today he was working with the fish, trying to make sure he had enough for the lodge and home, with an extra special purchase going towards Nida's Julia. More often than not her dad bought fresh fish for her, but they were both at work.
And with him being so often here, the fish mongers chatted animatedly with him, especially since he tended to make larger purchases due to feeding folks at the lodge. Knowing he'd have to carry the consortium of crabs back, the sellers were even kind enough to cut and tie the claws in a bit of prep for him.
So as they were being prepared, Ignis visually located his chocobo who was tied not too far from where he was shopping. Not realizing there was a new person snacking on the other side of the bird at first, green eyes rolled playfully at the bird as he lifted his now ringed hand to scratch under its chin affectionately.
"And I suppose you want me to pick you up some Gysahl greens for your time and effort today."
Re: Market
There were some things that were a concern, yes, but there was also a lot that he’d already come to love. Being out under an open sky being the big one, he didn’t even have it in him to be annoyed that he still didn’t have his hat. The other thing being that he knew this snack would help keep him going until later, when he could join his husband for dinner at the tavern and they could just… talk about their day. Share what new things they’d worked out.
Admittedly, seeing some of the animals… It was also nice, yes, but he missed his dog something fierce. The hound would have been not only a comfort, but rather useful to have around in a world with less technology. He’d been making a lot of progress with teaching him scent tracking… Ah, well… Positives and negatives, he guessed.
Lowering his carb filled snack, Llewellyn blinked a little as a man seemed to be chatting with his large chicken… ostrich… thing— Chocobo, Llewellyn, they’re called chocobos. The nice lady, Lauri-ell told you already.
“Mm… Everyone deserves a treat if they work hard, and these birds seem to work rather hard indeed.” He mumbled out loud, perhaps to Ignis from where he was standing. Absently, he wondered what a Gysahl green was, and if they were a little like horses in that they were prone to sweeter temperament if given something to eat.
no subject
One day he hoped that would change as they were pretty useful and had personalities all their own.
So he turned the bird's rather large head and saw a man snacking on something that looked delicious. As he was rather unfamiliar with whatever it was it intrigued both the scholar and chef in him. But then of course his gaze went to the man's face. He wasn't a regular here and didn't seem to have the whole vibe of fitting in with the regular folks here. So perhaps he was new, but Ignis was far too polite to ask such a question.
However, the suggestion about hard working birds tipped the scales in the bird's favour, so purchasing Gysahl greens before he left the market today was certainly in order. After all, he wouldn't be able to handle carrying the crabs as far as he needed to without his feathered friend's assistance.
So with the man the advisor had to agree. "Indeed. They've made life quite easier here."
Unless your name happened to be Nida.

Once she'd finished the one in her hand she went back for another one. That was when she ran into Llewellyn, directly bumping into him. It was enough to deter her from going for the second pretzel, couldn't let anyone know she was out here excited to get sweets. Unless someone had seen her eating it before she went for another, it's not like she'd gone too far to eat it.
"It seems we should both pay more attention."
CINNAMON PRETZELS
Llewellyn was, of course, just on his way away from the place she was heading towards. A bag clutched in his hand, and a bounce in his step. He was in a rather excellent mood, after all. He’d found a place that sold the basic, traditional pretzel before now… But something a little more sweet had escaped his investigations until now, and while he was more just a little more fond of the savoury variations on his favourite snack if he was going to pick? His husband adored the cinnamon sugar variety, and so the bag in his hand was meant to be a surprise for Rhy.
… Well, with one or two polished off beforehand. There were quite a few hours left in the day, after all, and just because they weren’t his favourite of favourites didn’t mean he didn’t like them. Pretzels were still pretzels, or something to that effect.
If only he’d been paying a little more attention, instead of distracted by his small victory in snack options or his next stop which would probably be another round at the Historium. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. The collision sets the detective more than a little off kilter, his arms (bag of tasty pretzels included) swinging out a little to get his balance. “Oh— Oof, perhaps… Are you alright, Miss? No uh— no damage done?”
no subject
This man was neither a child nor a New Mutant or mutant at all. At least to her knowledge. He was a man holding pretzels who had gotten in her way while she was on a mission for more pretzels. Of course it was him that had gotten in her way and not just that they'd both bumped into each other.
Once she'd gotten her candle she decided she could at least pretend to be somewhat polite and actually acknowledged he'd said something in response to her comment. "Better than the candle," she said wryly. "And better than you it seems. Are you going to fall?" It might be kind of funny if he did. That probably shouldn't be something she should admit. Trying to be a real girl instead of a soulless demoness was a lot more difficult than she'd originally thought it'd be.

After all, Illyana may be a mistress of magic in her world, but that didn't mean she was a master of all magic from all worlds. He didn't try to be quiet as he made his way to the swirling green sphere in the center of the room, and his chin rose in resignation before he addressed the thing.
"I need to see what you know about magic."
The mists within the sphere swirled to life and he approached, darker bits coming together into some semblance of words. ...ask...
"Yeah, okay. What can you tell me about magic?"
After a moment of watching the mist swirl and come together again, the man's voice, lightly accented as though he might have spent a good bit of time in England, sounded irritated. "What do you mean nothing?"
Save him, please.
no subject
Closing the notebook, he slid off the side of the table and was tucking his things in his pockets to leave when he heard a voice in a slightly familiar accent. Hm… A slightly frustrated voice, at that.
The directory was something Llewellyn hadn’t really approached yet himself, but he had been observing the odd person talking to it. The detective might have felt a little weird approaching a sentient orb, if he were being honest.
It seemed like it was there to help, but it also didn’t appear to make getting its assistance easy. Humming a little, he supposed now was as good a time as any. “I believe it means it can’t tell you anything on the subject? From what I’ve seen, it’s picky concerning the phrasing of requests.”
He rubbed the side of his face, thinking of how to proceed. Indeed, he’d even forgotten to introduce himself or even ask the guy if he wanted help. “Mm… Directory, are there any books or… scrolls… on magic?”
no subject
It was a statement, and it was lost as the Directory reacted to Watts' address, mists swirling and dancing faster now as words come together in its depths.
"...yes..."
Jagger snorts. "It thinks it's clever."

And if he could help out a fellow new-person? All the better.]
I suppose I should say welcome fellow-new person, then. It’s nice to meet you, miss? [Adjusting his hold on the phone, it was still a little strange to get used to using something like this again.] I uh— I would be happy to work with you if you do open your flower shop? I’m… still a bit of a novice with growing things, but I’d like the chance to improve.
And as I mentioned, I do have a little more experience with making bouquets and arrangements from the last world I was in.
[So even if he needed a little work in other areas, he knew he could at least contribute.]
no subject
You're in luck, I happen to be a great teacher. I just had a student who impressed everyone with the bouquets he made after we spent some time in my gardens. [ Okay, well, maybe he wasn't exactly her student. But the nice arrangement of flowers he helped her bring to the Leaf house was definitely due to her guidance. ] As long as you've got the desire to learn, I can teach! [ She was really starting to get curious about the whole last world thing though and now she couldn't help but ask a little something. ]
Soooo...how'd you end up going from detective work to having a side job as a florist?

"I'd hardly call us good at this, dearest," Rhy answered, shaking his head. However their plans were definitely more than he'd had entering the Sphere.
And he didn't think he'd be this prepared if he wasn't trying to take care of his husband as well.
no subject
It was odd, but if the subject were to be brought up, Llewellyn probably would have had to admit to being of a similar mind there. Things were different when you had a loved one around, so rather than throw himself into whatever sort of casework he could find, Llewellyn was more focused on other priorities.
He picked away at his food as he considered other things. Clearly not even today could stunt his appetite. “I’m going to try to find out what I can about this place, if there are things we should worry about… Er— Once we follow through with the first things on our current list, that is.”
He was eager to see their accommodations, after all. That in itself might shift priorities or focus on the list.
no subject
"Yes. Housing first," he said as the server came over to tell them what was available. He ordered for them, already knowing his husband enough to know what Llewellyn would ask for. "We'll likely need clothes too. While you research, I'll gather what of our coin we might be able to spare, and put some clothes together for us."

"There are very many reasonable here with great skills," Lauri-Ell agreed with a smile.
She knew she would do her best to protect this place too, taking her hammer out when it was needed.
"This place is mostly safe, though."
no subject
Llewellyn had been working on it, but old habits died hard, especially when there might be a reason to hang onto them. “But knowing some of what’s happened in this place is a help, which uh— thank you for.”
no subject
She had met the guard in the briefest of passings, but he seemed experienced and confident in this place. "He could potentially help you. I would have suggested Caelan as well, but he is long gone. He was a good friend. He taught me music."
