What; 1 Audio broadcast & 2 Open Logs
Where; The logs are at the Historium & the market!
When; Over the first couple weeks in May!
Warnings; Nothing to start, will update if anything happens!
1 - Tellphone
[Clearing his throat a little, Llewellyn tried to think of where to start, he’s been snooping around for a few days and compiling some notes.]
Hello! I’m sure everyone is rather used to these sorts of broadcasts now, but uh— I’ve only just arrived in the last few days. My name is Llewellyn Watts-Maresh, to get introductions out of the way.
I’ve been catching up on the goings on already, seems like there’s a lot going on right now that I’d like to offer my assistance with. So! I’ll skip directly to the main point of my broadcast.
While this world is a significant improvement on my last... I’m finding myself in need of a starting point. I’m accustomed to having an office to work from, but I don’t believe I’ll have the funds to open something myself from the start. Is there possibly a private investigation firm already that would be looking for a detective? I… don’t need much space. I’ve gotten used to taking my work outdoors in the past, but a desk to keep my notes and work at on occasion would be appreciated.
[And he paused, humming a little as he mulled over a secondary thought he’d been playing with since he arrived.]
That aside, I’m also knowledgeable with floriography. Even if this worlds is different from my own, I’m a fast study. I’ve had practice in making arrangements for various meanings and occasions, and before I was pulled here I was dabbling in gardening…? So if anyone is looking for some part-time help there, I wouldn’t mind doing that on the side. I uh— I like to keep busy.
[And if he and his husband ever do figure out how to purchase a home, he knows they’ll need the money for it. Being cooped up in a small apartment is not ideal long term.]
Mm… That should do it, thank you.
2 - Historium
Llewellyn might have been a little slower to get here than he normally would have been, too distracted with this new world and getting his feet under him. But any sort of library was a good starting point to see what kind of references were available when you wanted to investigate and learn more about certain things about a place that might not be readily available through word of mouth. Or things that were just easier to find out on your own, as he was prone to doing.
It was… a lot more disorganized than the last giant library he’d frequented, but that actually wasn’t a big issue for the detective. His thought process already tended towards the chaotic and scattered, so he actually felt rather at home in the place. It wasn’t hard to start at one shelf, scan the titles, and grab something before he continued onward.
Anyone around the Historium would see Llewellyn either with a few books under his arm, or sitting on a table (using the chair as a footrest) and leafing through a selection curiously. Once in a while, he’d stop, jot a few thoughts down in messy scrawl in his notebook, and then continue reading…
He’s not so absorbed in his task that he doesn’t notice anyone else around him. Llewellyn could be quite paranoid and didn’t enjoy being surprised, so unless you’re particularly sneaky, he would be quite aware if someone were to approach…
3 - Market
There were several places that Llewellyn could be guaranteed to be found if you needed him. The first being where ever he worked (he truly was a workaholic at times), with his husband (obvious, perhaps), and the market… The last being because Llewellyn usually found himself in need of a snack every few hours, he tended to think better on a full stomach and his metabolism was rather high given how little he sat around.
It was also his other go to for making contacts and gathering information on a place. People talked, especially shop and food stall employees. They saw or heard about everything going on in the city, after all, and if you were a frequent enough customer, they tended to appreciate your business enough to be on friendly terms.
Given this was another new world… Llewellyn was starting from scratch. So over the course of his first few weeks in this place, through the day, he’d take a stroll through the market whenever he was feeling hungry. Every time he’d stop somewhere, he’d take a few minutes to chat and get to know the person working, he might not remember names right away, but if he stopped there frequently enough he’d start to commit things to memory (and he certainly wrote more important conversations down).
If approached, Llewellyn would actually be quite happy to talk, as long as no one minded his snacking… He’d even offer to share.

Hey, considering this is the second time something like this has happened to me, us I guess, I wouldn't eliminate that as a possibility.
[But knowing Watts was here actually made this easier to deal with? Maybe there was some sort of order to the world (worlds?) after all.]
Yeah, and I can't tell you how glad I am to see a real sun.
no subject
[He laughed a little, even in hindsight he knew it was absurd.]
I almost wondered if this was all a trick at first— but it seems quite real. Or at least, I’m reasonably sure after the first couple days that this isn’t a dream.
no subject
[He'd spent a lot of time enjoying not feeling closed in himself.]
The neural implant's gone.
no subject
[But…]
It’s a little strange to not be so easily connected to everyone. We have these— tellphone things, now?
[Llewellyn is quite sure he’s going to lose it, and had already forgotten which pocket he’d put it in once or twice.]
no subject
[It's actually not as weird, and that was saying something.]
I don't exactly have one at home, either, but I can try to give you a hand with it if you want. There are probably better people at it than me.
no subject
[The offer is appreciated, and that much is apparent in his tone.]
You still have more experience with them than myself or Rhy, so I wouldn’t mind any tips if you have them. The instructions we were provided with were decent, but it’s a bit awkward to have gone from the sort of phones I knew in my own word, to the implants, and then to something that seems… weirdly in the middle?
no subject
[Yes, he was well aware his friend wouldn't know much about what he was referred to, but he also trusted the detective to get the gist of it.]
My experience with cellphones can be summed up as "press buttons, make things happen". You want want to check in with someone else first.
no subject
[He wasn’t really sure what a fax machine was, of course. Fax machines were not inventions he’d bothered to learn anything about in the last world they were in. Either way, it was easy to grasp what Harry meant. ]
That’s about what the instructions said, and it does seem to work. [He smiled a little wryly though,] At least people, yourself included, are responded to suggest as much. Er— moving on from that topic… Any thoughts on this place beyond the joy at not being trapped in the depths? I haven’t been here long, but I have heard a few… odd things.
no subject
[Yes, it was something technologically intricate that really has trouble existing around the energies that swirl around most magic users.]
the gist I've gotten is whoever's responsible for this place tried to reverse what brought us here and it broke it. Someone should see about fixing it.
And there's something going on in the harbor district.
no subject
That’s similar to what I’ve heard, so we’re… on the same page, or nearly. Someone mentioned that it brought some sort of a demonic bear for a while, but they couldn’t tell me much about it.
[Not that Llewellyn was much use with things like magic portal or demons. Besides that, for the moment, the issue at the harbour seemed more pressing anyway.]
I’ve heard about that? I had a conversation with someone about that recently, there’s some sort of being using song to lure people to their deaths and then reanimating the corpse to go somewhere else? Or— well, it sounds more complicated than that. I’m… more than a little worried on that front.
[And then there were also the ‘crab people monsters,’ which were another layer of ‘not good’ that seemed to go hand in hand with it.]
no subject
I wonder if there's record of it somewhere. It might give un an idea of the demonic entities that have access to this place.
...yeah, I heard about the song, too. I wonder if it's a siren.
no subject
[He frowned a little, circling back to the subject of the song.]
I think I recall a colleague in my world mentioning such a thing once… Given how this world seems more prone to beings of a magical sort that might be near the mark? Or— well, whatever this world calls a siren if there’s another name for it I guess. [Is he rambling? A little. But he wouldn’t be Llewellyn without some winding musings.] Might be worth doing some research on… I’ve been planning on going to see the Historium, anyway.
[But… He has to ask, if only because Harry seemed to pull the theory up easily.]
Don’t suppose you have experience with a similar thing already, do you?
no subject
[It sounded like a place he needed to check out.]
What do you know about this place?
Uh...no. I can't say I've encountered many sirens in Chicago, but I'm sure we can find something.
no subject
Not nearly enough other than what it’s called, if I’m being honest. Which… I suppose isn’t surprising, most of this world is too unknown to me at the moment. I’ve been informed that it’s confusing to find things in, but there’s supposed to be some sort of Directory that will assist if you’re looking for something specific?
[Darn. He knew better than to get his hopes up too high, but it was still rather unfortunate.]
Too bad, or perhaps good, that you haven’t… They don’t sound pleasant. But uh— yes, at least we have some ideas… I was wondering if the Historium might have some sort of book about what kind of creatures and beings might live in this world for a reference. Someone indicated that it’s probably located somewhere around or at a lighthouse?
no subject
[Harry found that a little hard to believe, but then again, he supposed he's seen weirder things.]
Yeah, I heard that, but I don't know how useful a bestiary would be if things come from all over.
no subject
[Yes, he knows how that sounds.
There’s a small, disappointed frown in his tone at the next comment though…]
That’s a good point… I suppose it’s more like wishful thinking on my part. I’ve always either learned from books or by hands-on experience… So I’d hoped to start with the former.
[But it was what it was, and this seemed like something that needed looking into. People were dying.]
no subject
[Has he never told Watts about Bob? Because he totally should have told Watts about Bob.]
It might at least give us a place to start from.
no subject
[Llewellyn’s tone was rather curious at that. Which was to say that no, Harry had never mentioned Bob before. But experience with difficult spirits would definitely come in handy here, if what the detective had heard about the Directory were anything to go by.]
Mm… That’s what I’d hope for, at least.
no subject
[Could Bob really be considered his, even?]
That's really all we can do at this point.
no subject
[Humming a little, he supposed they’d find out sooner rather than later.]
At least for now… Unless someone else happens upon a detail that hasn’t been found yet.
[He frowned, they’d only just gotten here and there was already a lot to figure out.]
no subject
[And he hoped whatever this was, it wasn't like Bob.]
Has anybody tried asking it about itself?
no subject
[That was pretty strange, though definitely easy… He rather doubted that would be the answer in this case. Llewellyn does pause for a moment though, before he shook his head a little as he forgot that no one could see him here.]
Hmm… No one has suggested as much, so I believe it’s probably unlikely that anyone has.
[Perhaps he should take a stroll by and do so, it isn’t as though he’s busy around here yet.]
I should stop by on the way back to the apartments at some point, perhaps to uh— see if it has anything interesting to say on that matter?
no subject
Yeah, let me know what it says. Maybe I can throw a few divining spells together and see if I can't learn anything about the thing.
no subject
[He responded with an awkward tone, yeah this is a weird line of conversation and he’d always been a bit clumsy on the topic.
Which was why he breezed on rather quickly to the matter of the Directory.]
Yes, of course! I’ll uh— be in touch after I try to have a proper word with it. I’m not sure if it’s agreeable to conversation without a request, but it’s worth a try.
(ooc: Want to fade out here and Watts can help out Harry at the festival next?)
no subject
Bob’s never had a body, Watts. I don’t know where he gets it from. He’s had a lot of masters before me so it’s hard to say.
[He shrugged. He’d never asked Bob, mostly because as useful as the spirit was, there are some things you’re better off not knowing.]
(OOC: That sounds perfect!)
