One of the small tealight candles Illyana had in her basket had been the only real causality of their collusion on her end. Rather than offering him any sort of assistance as he tried to catch his balance she just bent over to pick the candle up and put it back where it belonged. Jagger would probably have side-eyed her for not offering someone she'd just bumped into assistance. Piotr probably would have too, but her brother was always the first person to jump at helping someone else. That wasn't quite Illyana's personality though. The only people she really went out of her way to help happened to be the very small circle of friends she had and children. Children in particular managed to trigger more helpful feelings in her than anything else, but that was for very particular reasons that she kept to herself.
This man was neither a child nor a New Mutant or mutant at all. At least to her knowledge. He was a man holding pretzels who had gotten in her way while she was on a mission for more pretzels. Of course it was him that had gotten in her way and not just that they'd both bumped into each other.
Once she'd gotten her candle she decided she could at least pretend to be somewhat polite and actually acknowledged he'd said something in response to her comment. "Better than the candle," she said wryly. "And better than you it seems. Are you going to fall?" It might be kind of funny if he did. That probably shouldn't be something she should admit. Trying to be a real girl instead of a soulless demoness was a lot more difficult than she'd originally thought it'd be.
