[Clearing his throat a little, Llewellyn tried to think of where to start, he’s been snooping around for a few days and compiling some notes.]
Hello! I’m sure everyone is rather used to these sorts of broadcasts now, but uh— I’ve only just arrived in the last few days. My name is Llewellyn Watts-Maresh, to get introductions out of the way.
I’ve been catching up on the goings on already, seems like there’s a lot going on right now that I’d like to offer my assistance with. So! I’ll skip directly to the main point of my broadcast.
While this world is a significant improvement on my last... I’m finding myself in need of a starting point. I’m accustomed to having an office to work from, but I don’t believe I’ll have the funds to open something myself from the start. Is there possibly a private investigation firm already that would be looking for a detective? I… don’t need much space. I’ve gotten used to taking my work outdoors in the past, but a desk to keep my notes and work at on occasion would be appreciated.
[And he paused, humming a little as he mulled over a secondary thought he’d been playing with since he arrived.]
That aside, I’m also knowledgeable with floriography. Even if this worlds is different from my own, I’m a fast study. I’ve had practice in making arrangements for various meanings and occasions, and before I was pulled here I was dabbling in gardening…? So if anyone is looking for some part-time help there, I wouldn’t mind doing that on the side. I uh— I like to keep busy.
[And if he and his husband ever do figure out how to purchase a home, he knows they’ll need the money for it. Being cooped up in a small apartment is not ideal long term.]
Mm… That should do it, thank you.
2 - Historium
Llewellyn might have been a little slower to get here than he normally would have been, too distracted with this new world and getting his feet under him. But any sort of library was a good starting point to see what kind of references were available when you wanted to investigate and learn more about certain things about a place that might not be readily available through word of mouth. Or things that were just easier to find out on your own, as he was prone to doing.
It was… a lot more disorganized than the last giant library he’d frequented, but that actually wasn’t a big issue for the detective. His thought process already tended towards the chaotic and scattered, so he actually felt rather at home in the place. It wasn’t hard to start at one shelf, scan the titles, and grab something before he continued onward.
Anyone around the Historium would see Llewellyn either with a few books under his arm, or sitting on a table (using the chair as a footrest) and leafing through a selection curiously. Once in a while, he’d stop, jot a few thoughts down in messy scrawl in his notebook, and then continue reading…
He’s not so absorbed in his task that he doesn’t notice anyone else around him. Llewellyn could be quite paranoid and didn’t enjoy being surprised, so unless you’re particularly sneaky, he would be quite aware if someone were to approach…
3 - Market
There were several places that Llewellyn could be guaranteed to be found if you needed him. The first being where ever he worked (he truly was a workaholic at times), with his husband (obvious, perhaps), and the market… The last being because Llewellyn usually found himself in need of a snack every few hours, he tended to think better on a full stomach and his metabolism was rather high given how little he sat around.
It was also his other go to for making contacts and gathering information on a place. People talked, especially shop and food stall employees. They saw or heard about everything going on in the city, after all, and if you were a frequent enough customer, they tended to appreciate your business enough to be on friendly terms.
Given this was another new world… Llewellyn was starting from scratch. So over the course of his first few weeks in this place, through the day, he’d take a stroll through the market whenever he was feeling hungry. Every time he’d stop somewhere, he’d take a few minutes to chat and get to know the person working, he might not remember names right away, but if he stopped there frequently enough he’d start to commit things to memory (and he certainly wrote more important conversations down).
If approached, Llewellyn would actually be quite happy to talk, as long as no one minded his snacking… He’d even offer to share.

"We'll find paper," he suggests. 'So we can draw the routes we take, try and make a map if there is not one for us."
no subject
At his husband’s tone, he smiled across the table. “Then I’ll be very happy here.” He responded quietly, but with a certainty in his voice. They could do this, they would make it work and even if it were a little difficult at first… He was glad that they had the chance to try.
His attention perked up at the mention of paper. “Yes, I have a pen already so if we could find some paper that would be a good idea.” Surely they could find some spare paper somewhere. On the off chance he had some scraps that weren’t covered in notes already, he put his cutlery down with a small hum and did a quick check.

"Come now, eat up," he said, gesturing to the stew and bread that had been brought to them, along with a weak brown ale. Rhy was going to be offended by that.
no subject
His husband grabbed his attention, however, prompting him to stop sorting through his pockets and resume the meal. “Right— uh… After we eat, then.” He smiled a little, breaking off a piece of bread to dip in the stew. “Mm… It’s not bad.” He commented on the stew, glancing around. First meal in a new world, different from his first in the last place they’d been, but it felt fitting to be having his first meal here with Rhy…
The ale would be disappointing compared to what either of them were used to, but Llewellyn wouldn’t be complaining whenever he tried some. It was another little reminder to him of the taverns in his world that sometimes a partner of his would invite him out to.
no subject
“The bread is lovely. None of that processed stuff.”
White bread sucked.
no subject
And because the food was good, and he was as hungry as he was, it didn’t take him long to work his way through the meal. Waiting patiently for or Rhy to finish so they could explore and find their way to the coloured buildings.
wrap soon?
So that was definitely something he wanted to explore. And frankly, he was very happy to see that this place was familiar in some ways. The market here was so much more like home than the one in the Spheres. In fac, this just felt like home.
"Does this place also feel more familiar to you, to your world? I hope so."
He was nearly done wit his own meal, so it was nearly time to go home.
Yeah sure! How about a little time skip to get them to the apartments for a couple tags then ftb?
“Oh, yes, it really does. Aside from uh— things like the lack of electricity and street cars perhaps, it’s very close to what I know in my own world.” And that suited him well enough, fewer wires and the like to fuss with. “The markets, the little shops and even this tavern… Reminds me a lot of where I’m from.” He responded with a smile, finishing off his plate with a little of the bread and pushing it in gently with a satisfied smile. Even the food and the quality reminded him of his world, it felt more… real. Or at least it didn’t set off some of the paranoid thoughts he had in his own world.
He glanced across the table with a curious smile, noting his husband was also finished. “Are we ready to see where we call home now?”
alright
"Would you judge me, love, if I said I had never seen a forest before in my life? For there were not many near enough my city for me to look amid."
Still, he is given pause at a comment. "What is a 'street car'?"
Thaty needed to be known before he could head home.
no subject
Street cars were at least somewhat easy to explain, as he had been about to offer Rhy an arm after he’d risen from the table. “Mm… Do you remember the train that ran at the sphere to get to the further reaches of the place?” He responded, gesturing behind him as though to indicate the past. “They’re a lot like that, but smaller and they run on electricity. They traveled through parts of the city to get around a little easier instead of having to call for a carriage.”
no subject
Rhy takes the offered arm and rises to join the other.
"Of course I remember that. Smaller you say? That's interesting. I think i would have problems moving away from horses and carriages if it came to it."
no subject
“You’d be surprised. They were quite convenient sometimes. Though I suppose you’ve probably never had a difficult time getting a carriage.” He responded thoughtfully. Really it seemed unlikely that Rhy would have ever needed to make use of public transportation before. “I still preferred walking or cycling if I had the option. Good exercise and less crowded.”
Leaving the tavern behind once they’d settled their bill, Llewellyn kept an eye open for buildings that looked like they might be apartments. Though it seemed that they wouldn’t be too hard to find, considering they were colour coded.
no subject
"Cycling? Explain this to me."
What a relationship they had, having to explain things to each other so much. But they didn't mind that he thought.
no subject
The question gets a thoughtful hum as they walk. He supposed they hadn’t really seen bicycles at the Sphere. Perhaps he could find one here someday to show his husband. It was perhaps a little strange that there was so much they didn’t know or understand about each other’s worlds, but Llewellyn never minded… It was nice to know there were still things to learn about each other, and they wouldn’t run out of things to share. “Bicycles are these metal vehicles for getting around. Two wheels that are attached to a metal frame, propelled by the pedals that you work with your feet. Very convenient for getting around and uh— good exercise I suppose.”
Llewellyn had gotten his own after he started working at Murdoch’s station, he’d even gotten the man’s opinion on the one he bought… It had been one of his attempts at bonding a little with the older detective, he supposed. “The detective I worked with modified his, with sprockets to change gears and a light to make it easier to use it at night.”
no subject
Could something with clockwork on wheels carry people such as horses did? Oh Rhy loved this all.
“You and I are going to settle into one of our spaces and you are going to tell me more.”
no subject
He turned a corner with his husband, squinting at the buildings he could see that stood a little taller than the nearby rooftops. “I will tell you more about them at length once we’re comfortable, then. But! If I’m not mistaken, I think those roofs the next street over are coloured, aren’t they?” Which hopefully meant they weren’t far.

“At least an apartment offers a little more privacy than the dormitories did, if we each get our own apartment.” He commented, finally relinquishing Rhy’s arm so his husband could use his key to get them in.
no subject
He scoops out the key and heads for the door. What more could he do?
no subject
That wasn’t the main point of concern though, that was the apartments themselves. “What apartment number are you, first floor or second?”
no subject
"It says A-1."
no subject
“A-1, then we can’t be far… That’s probably the one closest to here, actually.” He moved towards the hall on the first floor and looked around between doorways. The layout reminded him a little of the apartments that had just been going up in his world after the great fire. “Ah-ha, here we go.” He gestured to the door with its number plaque, “Let’s see what our new home looks like.” Hopefully, it was enough to accommodate them until he could figure out where else arrivals might find a place to live.
no subject
"You presume we won't reside in your place," Rhy noted, moving to open the door and push in.
no subject
“Small… But not too small… It’s cozy?” Llewellyn commented, trying to be positive about it, for both their sakes. He squinted a little at the small appliances provided. They looked a bit modern for the setting… But then again, so did the telephones. How curious…
“I suppose the most important question is…” His eyes drifted to the door that appeared to be the bedroom, moving forward and hoping that the beds weren’t too small for two to squeeze into.
no subject
"Cozy, I like that term. And look, the drawers don't seem fingerprint coded. That was... unnerving, if I am honest."
He trailed after his lover and then sighed at the bed. Not as nice as their old one, but it would work.
Want to fade out on them getting settled in?
Yes
Okie dokie :D
