[Never mind the baking ingredients in the background along with the mixing bowls. In the foreground are a bunch of books, piles of notepaper and pens since someone's been studying. But paws are seen and hands pick the puppy up and put him on the ground.]
You know you're not supposed to be on the table.
[He then straightens back up and notices that the camera on.]
I'm sorry, I didn't realize the puppy had turned the phone's video function on.
[Yuki pauses a moment.]
But since it's on I wanted to ask if anyone else studying at the Academy?

I haven’t been given a list of students yet, so I couldn’t tell you about your potential classmates… But I can say I’ll be there as one of the professors, given it’s my prior vocation.
[ Absently, he could almost hear his apprentice’s gentle voice in the back of his head, reminding him that his words hadn’t been a particularly proper introduction. Brushing his hair aside, he made himself continue in light of that realization. ]
I’m Lord El-Melloi II, by the way.
So potential students will be introduced to more than one teacher while they undertake their magical studies?
[This was news to him, but it wouldn't hurt to find that out.]
It's nice to meet you. I'm..
[And he paused, wondering if he should give his normal address or not, but in the end he decided against it.]
My name is Yuki Sohma.
[ While he would say that was due to being focused on setting himself up in a new world… He also wasn’t known to be the most social creature without reason. ]
Regardless, it’s beneficial to see who’s teaching methods resonate best with a student. In my world, students are known to transfer from one department to another as they try to find a professor whose teaching style fits their needs best.
[ He fell silent, studying Yuki over the feed more seriously for a moment. The wrinkles between his brows deepening lightly as he seemed to be trying to get a read on the young man. His introduction, though halted, was polite… And his overall demeanor seemed sensible. More like Gray or maybe Caules, if he had to make a comparison… That was a good thing. He liked students who weren’t chaotic, loud messes. It meant they weren’t going to make his stress levels rise as easily. ]
It’s nice to make your acquaintance. Have you a particular area of interest where your study of magic is concerned? Or is this a new pursuit?
[And the townsfolk may enroll. That was always a possibility. Learning magic was something he wanted to do when he realized it could be another weapon to add to his arsenal to keep Jacob safe. The guy couldn't even go to the beach without being attacked by one of the sand sharks and fortunately someone had been there to keep him from being killed. But hearing the part about the students and teachers basically resonating with each other kept those darker thoughts at bay for the moment. And then the question made him slightly shake his head.]
No, magic is new to me honestly.
[ Listening to the short response, he hummed with the barest of nods as he sat back and turned his olive-green eyes to something he was working on himself. ]
So you’re a blank slate? Interesting… [ Made him wonder what the young man’s potential might be. ] Does that mean there’s no magic that you know of in your world?
[ He knew it might exist, but was kept under wraps… In his world, there was a whole department at the Clock Tower devoted to keeping the work of mages more or less secret and low-key. ]
Well… you’ll probably get a better idea of what path you wish to pursue once you have the basics down and learn where you excel the most.

The dog's name is Shigure, he's really friendly.

Maybe that's exactly what it was.

[Yuki self consciously tucks a bit of hair over his ear as he's not sure what to do here.]
I'm taking a magic course at the Academy. It's all pretty new to me actually.

I see. Magic sounds quite interesting. Does your world not have such things?

[He sure didn't think she would be referring to a high school. But at the question about if magic existed, Yuki sure as hell wasn't mentioning ancient zodiac curses. So he just shook his head with a small smile.]
No.

Cute dog.
[Because he likes dogs, okay.]
What are you baking?
[Because that's clearly the most important thing here.]
|video|
[Even if it half pains him that Jacob took a joke seriously regarding that name. But at the question, he turned around.]
I think that's the making of a cake.
Re: |video|
[He's more interested in the dog and the food. Shinjiro has priorities, okay.]
You think? You're not baking?
[video|
[But then he smiled.]
I don't do the cooking or baking here. But I'm told it's going to become a cake.

I am clearly not. Had more than enough education growing up. That said, if you do enroll, or already have, please do let me know your schedule changes. I will likely have to restructure our training sessions.
Ah, right. I don't have a set schedule yet, things are still being figured out. But I can let you know.

[Yuki was getting good enough that Nida was getting nervous about facing the kid with a sword after all.]

[Don’t mind Tommy, just shooting his response from his little stall in the markets, feet kicked up on the counter. Business is slow today, and he’s got kids to watch over, but he’s bored.]
You take the dog to class with you?
no subject
Yes, I'm attending classes at the academy here.
[But the question about the dog made him laugh slightly.]
No, but I'm sure if I let him out, he'd follow me.

[The advantages of being super fast is that you can hide the cringes by letting them pass quickly.]
Might amuse the kids to let the little guy hang out with us at the stall.
no subject
I'll have to let you know, but having him get to know others would be a good idea.
