[Never mind the baking ingredients in the background along with the mixing bowls. In the foreground are a bunch of books, piles of notepaper and pens since someone's been studying. But paws are seen and hands pick the puppy up and put him on the ground.]

You know you're not supposed to be on the table.

[He then straightens back up and notices that the camera on.]

I'm sorry, I didn't realize the puppy had turned the phone's video function on.

[Yuki pauses a moment.]

But since it's on I wanted to ask if anyone else studying at the Academy?

Yes, he was found by Jacob here.

[But then he smiled.]

I don't do the cooking or baking here. But I'm told it's going to become a cake.

Oh. Cool.

[And here was thinking he'd have a cooking friend to talk with, not that he was very skilled at doing that, either. He was just opening up to it.]

What's his name?

The dog's name is Shigure.

[He was asking Jacob to help him learn how to cook better than he could now, which was a very low bar. But it was his birthday and Jacob had insisted that the cake was to be done by him and Yuki couldn't do any cooking today. So he'd tried to focus on his studies.]

We just got him a few months ago.

Nice. Looks smart.

[Even Shinjiro's compliments sound like insults, being spoken in such a monotone, but he's trying to be more social.]

Uh. Happy Birthday, I guess. What kind of cake?

Too smart I think.

[Considering his namesake. But at least this version of the name for the Dog of the zodiac wasn't a shameless perverted flirt like the one Yuki had lived with. Even when Shigure back home changed form, he was still himself. However, hearing the 'happy birthday' had him tucking a few strands of gray hair back behind his ear. He hadn't expected that.]

Thanks, it's supposed to be vanilla cake with cream cheese frosting I think.

Vanilla cake, huh? [Basic, but nothing to sneeze at if it's done right.]

A favorite of yours? [He can only assume, seeing as it's being made for his birthday.]

[Yuki had to smile. Jacob had all of these ideas for cherry blossom coloured icing and so many other things, that while touched, Yuki had gently insisted weren't necessary.]

It's one of my favourites, yes. What about you?

My favorite cake?

[Did he have one?]

I guess it depends. I like cinnamon cream okay, but I'm not really into sweets.

Cinnamon cream cake?

[This had him thinking.]

I don't recall even hearing about a cake like that back home.

[Now it's time for him to look slightly awkward and he cleared his throat before looking away from the feed.]

I made it up.

[Now he's confused so it takes him a minute or so to reply.]

Well if you don't have a favourite, it's okay.

[He doesn't say anything for a moment.]

No...I mean I came up with it. I...bake sometimes.

[Which is why he'd originally contacted Yuki. He...thought he might connect over that.]

Oh..I'm sorry I misunderstood.

[Like really did. So he was quiet a few moments while he heard Shinji mention baking.]

How long have you been making cakes? Do you bake them here?

[Because he'd totally be wanting to try them.]

It's cool.

[A beat.]

Sometimes. [Another pause.] Why?

[He feels a little shy to ask this next question.]

Well I mean, if you like to bake you must make your cakes somewhere, right?

Everybody got a kitchen.

[That is to say he is not employed as a chef.]

[He smiled a little shyly.]

I'm sorry, I meant that I was wondering if you sold them somewhere.

Tch. [He scoffs.] You ain't even tried 'em, now you're thinkin' I oughta sell 'em somewhere?

[He half wondered if the kid was trying to misunderstand him here.]

No, I was just wondering, but that doesn't mean I think that you should.

[More that he was uncertain of his abilities and other people have suggested he could sell his food before.]

...right. Got it.

[Now he's wondering if he's inadvertently offended the person.]

I'm sorry, maybe I should clarify. You should do what you think is best. If you think you should sell them, then that's what you should do. It isn't up to me to decide for you.

[Shinjiro has that effect on people. His communication skills leave a lot to be desired.]

Uh huh. [There's a brief pause.] Yeah, I know. You're right.

[Hopefully his words helped and it sounded as if they did.]

But if you do, I would like to try them.

[He really didn't know what to do with this guy.]

You're weird, ya know that?

[It wasn't the first time he'd been called weird but he still laughed self consciously.]

Well, I'll just go now and good luck with your baking.

[Because Yuki wanted to be polite.]
