Finally Time To Build A Greenhouse!

It was here. It was HERE! Lauri-Ell smiled as she looked at the large cart with layered padded out panes of carefully and custom made glass. And with it, a whole selection of the metal bars and poles and things she had made with Gili's help that were finally ready.

Lauri-Ell looked at her deliveries and looked so INSANELY gleeful, grinning massively at all she saw. She was excited, definitely excited. But...

"Now I have to get it all upstairs," she sighed. And assembled. Which she could do. But man, there was so much she had to do. "I should have arranged a day where I knew I had help."

Or someone with telekinesis, but that didn't seem likely.

2. And So The Building Begins | Blue Building Roof
Finally. It had taken her all of the day before to carefully move all of the supplies up to the roof, even with help, and the fatigue after had been too much to start the building process. So she had taken the day off, put out feelers to friends and neighbors to see if anyone wanted to help, and got up early to start in the markets. A basket of fresh turnovers and sausage rolls later, and after the making of two large pitchers of 'lemon-aid' Lauri-Ell made her way to the roof with the copies of all of the notes and designs she had made for the work.

It was time. Lauri-Ell clapped her hands together and smiled.

"Alright. Frame first I think!"

3. Things To Go In Glass Houses | Flower and Gardening Shops
Alright, now she had a lovely little greenhouse prepared, one that she could even get into. So now there was the rest that needed to be done. Which was why she had taken her cart around to a number of stores. Already she had acquired a few large bags of soil and some pots and trays for planting. But now?

Now Lauri-Ell was looking at small seedlings, not to mention bags of things proclaiming to be seeds. She looked... worried.

"But how do such very small things become such big and good plants?"

And what should she get? Food and healing things, that was what she and Yuki had agreed to.

"I don't know what to do," she mumbled unhappily.

Oh, flower token friend! Lauri-Ell bit her lip before turning her full attention on him.

"Do these little grains truly grow into plants?"

They seems so very, very small.

Ah... Now he could see why she was frowning. It would be a bit hard to believe, especially depending on the plant. “Indeed, they do? It takes a little longer to see them fully grown into something recognizable than the something already started, is all.” He stopped fussing with the rack and took a closer look at the package of seeds she had at the moment to figure out what sort she was holding. “But uh- I think it’s worth seeing how they begin. It’s quite fascinating to watch and check on them each day.”

Still she stares. While Lauri trusts Llewellyn very much, she was still... uncertain of this whole process. It seemed impossible, that something which gave life could come from something so small.

"The Greenhouse is ready, and I am trying to determine some of the seeds. Some Yuki and I have agreed upon. But there are ones that I must fill for me. I don't know what to do.

It’s not hard to tell that she was skeptical on the matter. It wasn’t as though he could prove it true right then and there. Proof would take a little time and for her to choose her seeds and to get them to germinate. But perhaps he could offer his help with it and help to prove it to be true once she had what she needed to start. “Well, I know it’s hard to believe now... But they’ll sprout with the right care. Some just need to be pre-soaked, nicked, or chilled before planting?”

He turned his attention to the spinning rack of seeds again. “Mm... In that case, what were you thinking of the seeds you wish to plant for yourself? I can probably give you some ideas on starting if you like. I’ve uh- been working for Aerith for a few months, and I was experimenting with growing things in the last world, so I’ve accumulated some knowledge.”

An interesting question. She still considers the seeds for a bit before returning her attention to Llewellyn. But, she decided, she would choose to trust Llewellyn. He was a good man.

"We have been planting edible things, and healing things. We want to give what we grow to people in need. But there are a few small spaces for things for us. I want something to make me smile."

Llewellyn listened with interest, it was a lovely project... Yuki didn't tend to share much with the detective, seeming quite quiet and private... But it was good to hear that he and Lauri-Ell had such a nice plan and arrangement. "That sounds quite nice, I'm sure there are more than a few people who will appreciate it in this world."

But on the subject of what Lauri-Ell wanted to plant for herself, he tilted his head slightly. "Something to make you smile though is important." He slowed the rack to look at a pack with a likeness of the flower it would grow into painted on it. "The question remains, what do you think would make you smile? A special flower? Or a blooming shrubbery, or maybe even one of those little tree things to tend to." He rubbed the side of his neck lightly, "Do you already have ideas?"

"Trees are tall. There will be no room," Lauri-Ell answered. And a shrub sounded silly. "I like flowers. Something pretty and delicate."

Were there such things?

“Most trees are, yes, but there are smaller ones meant to be cared for indoors.” He responded with a smile before nodding. “Pretty flowers, small and delicate…. We can probably find a few nice options.” He pulled a couple of seed packs off the racks. “What do you think of these?” He asked, holding them out with the picture side visible.

The detective had picked out pansies, forget-me-nots, sweet alyssum, sweet peas, impatiens and fuchsia. A variety that varied in the way they grew or spread, along with different enough colours to get an idea of an area that might be best to focus on for things that Lauri-Ell would gravitate towards.

Ther'es pictures on these? Well she looks them over. Pansies were beautiful and she thought edible, forget-me-nots like at the flower festival, sweet alyssum and the tiniest blossoms to go with it... Yes. They were all so pretty.

"I like the pansies. They have so many colors."

Llewellyn waited for her to look through the selection. It was important to be patient with decisions like this… Or at least he thought so; it was best to get exactly what you wanted. Especially if she was going to take the time and care that was required to grow them.

Smiling at her choice, he nodded. “Pansies are lovely, and they really do come in a nice selection of colours to choose from. You could probably find colours that compliment each other well to group.” He held the seed packet out to her to take, glad that he’d found one already that she liked.

Lauri-Ell took the packet delicately in her large hand.

"Do you think I can put a few in one planter? I don't want to waste our limited space."

She had to be very careful with what they had.

Llewellyn nodded, "Of course, as long as you space them well? I don't see why that would be a problem. You can even put more than one kind of flower, as long as you don't choose something that is more likely to overtake the planter and spread too fast." Some plants, he'd found, could be like that. "I'm sure you can make a lovely little arrangement for yourself with the space you have without using up too much."

Oh, how did she do that? She was looking at him with pleasure.

"Can you do that? Multiple sorts? What if they grow up at the same time? Won't they compete? Isn't htat bad?"

“Some plants can compete and overcrowd each other, but uh- there are other kinds that get along pretty well. I know that in gardens you can place pansies next to the sweet alyssum and they’ll be alright…”

He tapped his chin lightly, before spinning the rack again thoughtfully, clearly looking for something else. “Though I believe that primrose is planted with pansies as well? They come in a nice variety of colours too…” He hummed a little, something coming to mind. “Evening primrose are actually a particular favourite of mine.” Someone at Sphere had grown a small patch of them and night blooming jasmine for him with their magic when he arrived… It had been a kind gesture, and was a happy memory to recall.

Pansies next to sweet alyssum? She reaches out for a packet. Yes, maybe she should get some of those. They both look pretty, and the white and purple of the alyssum should go with the blues and reds and yellows of the mixed pansies pouch.

"You are very wise."

Llewellyn blinked a little at the comment, a small smile crossing his face. Wise, huh? A pity he couldn’t get Lauri-Ell to inform a few people in his world of that.

He shook his head, “I don’t know about wise, I’ve just been working on learning for a little while.” He rubbed the back of his neck lightly. First at the Sphere, and more so now. Aerith was a good teacher, and he’d still been doing a lot of reading. “Learning what goes with what is helpful for work and uh- I hope to have a small garden myself one day.” If he and Rhy ever found a place other than the apartments, that is. Nothing big, but something small with rose bushes for his husband and a few spaces accented with his own favourites in a few nice little beds. Unfortunately, finding a place was proving to be a challenge.

Well clearly people in his world needed informed of his wisdom. She has no patience for the idea that he isn't. How silly to even think it.

"If you wish a pot I can help you make one," she offered. The idea of a full garden was something she hadn't even fathomed yet.

“Oh?” He tilted his head a bit curiously at the idea. A pot might be nice to start something on a smaller scale…

After all, It’s a bit grand perhaps to be thinking of gardens now when all they have is the apartment, but he couldn’t help but think about it on occasion. “That’s kind of you to offer, Lauri-ell. I might take you up on that, uh- at least when you have time to.”

Well now she's smiling wider.

"I have time. We can buy things now while I am buying other things. It is efficient."

If she was certain, then Llewellyn certainly wasn’t going to say no. Not to mention, he wasn’t entirely sure what she would need to buy them and bring to her later. “That does sound efficient and sensible, I’ll uh- gladly help find what you might need.” And maybe offer more recommendations on flowers if she needed any. It was the least he could do, after all.

“What will we need, and perhaps I can help you find the other things you need while you’re at it? Two heads being better than one, and all.”

"Thank you," she smiled as she kept looking for more seed packets. "I need more soil and planters. But long ones to start seeds in I think."

Oh if only she remembered her shopping list. Damn

“Mm… I think I should be thanking you in return.” Llewellyn responded, leaning around the side of the rack to get a better look at some of the other seed varieties and colour options. “After all, you’re being quite helpful to me as well.”

The detective straightened a little as she explained what she needed next. “Soil and planters for starting seeds… I do believe I know where the planters are.” He snapped a finger as the thought came to him, “I was looking at the smaller ones earlier, and the big long sort were near them. Uh- This way, I think.” He added as looked around to retrace his steps from earlier.

Helpful to him? Oh, she likes that. Even smiles.

"Thank you for your guidance," she said, happy to follow him. She had already acquired other basics like some soil, but not nearly enough. And she would need a watering can though she didn't think of it yet.

“Not a problem.” He responded, helping to pick a few out and tucking them under his arm for now. The detective had a feeling they’d have quite a bit by the end of this, and he eyed the other tools and supplies thoughtfully.

“I haven’t seen what you have already, but I know a bucket when you’re pulling weeds, pruning or plucking dead blooms might help if you want to keep things tidy for composting.” He commented absentmindedly, he was sure she probably had the tools end of things taken care of… But there were small odds and ends she might need, “Maybe gloves to protect your hands, and watering cans if you haven’t got one already?” He knew he probably should get one. He had been watering the two house plants from the sink in the apartment.

"A bucket," she said, noting this down in her head. She wondered if there were any here. And a watering can...

"I don't know if they have gloves in my size. I would have to ask Gili where she got my work gloves made."
