Finally Time To Build A Greenhouse!

It was here. It was HERE! Lauri-Ell smiled as she looked at the large cart with layered padded out panes of carefully and custom made glass. And with it, a whole selection of the metal bars and poles and things she had made with Gili's help that were finally ready.

Lauri-Ell looked at her deliveries and looked so INSANELY gleeful, grinning massively at all she saw. She was excited, definitely excited. But...

"Now I have to get it all upstairs," she sighed. And assembled. Which she could do. But man, there was so much she had to do. "I should have arranged a day where I knew I had help."

Or someone with telekinesis, but that didn't seem likely.

2. And So The Building Begins | Blue Building Roof
Finally. It had taken her all of the day before to carefully move all of the supplies up to the roof, even with help, and the fatigue after had been too much to start the building process. So she had taken the day off, put out feelers to friends and neighbors to see if anyone wanted to help, and got up early to start in the markets. A basket of fresh turnovers and sausage rolls later, and after the making of two large pitchers of 'lemon-aid' Lauri-Ell made her way to the roof with the copies of all of the notes and designs she had made for the work.

It was time. Lauri-Ell clapped her hands together and smiled.

"Alright. Frame first I think!"

3. Things To Go In Glass Houses | Flower and Gardening Shops
Alright, now she had a lovely little greenhouse prepared, one that she could even get into. So now there was the rest that needed to be done. Which was why she had taken her cart around to a number of stores. Already she had acquired a few large bags of soil and some pots and trays for planting. But now?

Now Lauri-Ell was looking at small seedlings, not to mention bags of things proclaiming to be seeds. She looked... worried.

"But how do such very small things become such big and good plants?"

And what should she get? Food and healing things, that was what she and Yuki had agreed to.

"I don't know what to do," she mumbled unhappily.

Climbing up the last part of the ladder, Yuki smiled when he saw Lauri-Ell already up there. So he got up onto the roof, careful to have the rest of the plant food and fertilizer ready.

"Sorry if I'm a little late. My alarm clock didn't wake me up like I thought it would." And of course by that he meant his little blue chocobo chick he'd named Haru. But he had to drop the chick off at the chocobo ranch before coming up here because who knew what would happen tot he little bird. And inwardly he felt feint at the prospect of the little blue bird possibly tossing itself or falling off of the high roof.

Llewellyn had rather enjoyed adding on to his knowledge from the sphere by learning from Aerith these last few months, and helping her prepare her flower shop to work. But sometimes he also wandered around the city and ducked into the ones there, collecting a few things for a little window garden he was thinking of starting in the apartments. Something to add on to the little potted plants that he had started keeping with Rhy, even considering starting some herbs for if they actually learned how to cook. That was a work in progress…

The detective and part-time florist couldn’t help but notice his tall-blue friend looking more than a little worried, and sounding a touch unhappy. Humming a little, he ducked around a small table of flower pots and tilted his head up. “Something seems to be troubling you, Lauri-ell?” He commented, spinning a little rack of packaged flower seeds absentmindedly.

Cloud wasn't paying all that much attention when he left the Gray building, but it wasn't every day someone had a wagon full of quite so many supplies delivered, and it was less often that person was quite so large or happy to see them.

He could offer to help, but instead, he stopped, crossing his arms and tilting his head to the side. He didn't go anywhere without the sword strapped to his back which his lithe but well-muscled arms looked like they'd struggle to lift.

"That's a lot of glass."

Oh, flower token friend! Lauri-Ell bit her lip before turning her full attention on him.

"Do these little grains truly grow into plants?"

They seems so very, very small.

The voice had Lauri-Ell turning to answer and she was still smiling. Then paused. That was QUITE the sword. And quite the warrior. She can see it in the muscle, and the comfort with how he stood.

Here, then, was the closest thing she had seen to a hero from back home.

"It is indeed. I am building a green house."

"You're not late. The plants haven't started to grow yet," she answered with a smile.

With him there she was happy to offer him a stabilizing hand.

"Gili and I made notes on the metal support pieces for which connects to which. Will you help me build?"

Ah... Now he could see why she was frowning. It would be a bit hard to believe, especially depending on the plant. “Indeed, they do? It takes a little longer to see them fully grown into something recognizable than the something already started, is all.” He stopped fussing with the rack and took a closer look at the package of seeds she had at the moment to figure out what sort she was holding. “But uh- I think it’s worth seeing how they begin. It’s quite fascinating to watch and check on them each day.”

"Well they'll take a while." Yuki replied with a smile as he took the offered hand. And once he was up on the rooftop proper, he looked at Lauri-Ell. "I can help where I can, though I can't say I'm familiar with that part of it."

Still, he'd do what he could.

Ah, yes the will, won't they? He smiles.

"I have copied down the instructions," she told him, expression bright. "Come, I will show you."

And sure enough, by the pile of supplies, was a very carefully noted sketch. Gili's handwriting was very distinctive on it, blocky in a way that demanded no argument be offered.

"When I told her of a house of metal and glass, she was intrigued."

Still she stares. While Lauri trusts Llewellyn very much, she was still... uncertain of this whole process. It seemed impossible, that something which gave life could come from something so small.

"The Greenhouse is ready, and I am trying to determine some of the seeds. Some Yuki and I have agreed upon. But there are ones that I must fill for me. I don't know what to do.

It’s not hard to tell that she was skeptical on the matter. It wasn’t as though he could prove it true right then and there. Proof would take a little time and for her to choose her seeds and to get them to germinate. But perhaps he could offer his help with it and help to prove it to be true once she had what she needed to start. “Well, I know it’s hard to believe now... But they’ll sprout with the right care. Some just need to be pre-soaked, nicked, or chilled before planting?”

He turned his attention to the spinning rack of seeds again. “Mm... In that case, what were you thinking of the seeds you wish to plant for yourself? I can probably give you some ideas on starting if you like. I’ve uh- been working for Aerith for a few months, and I was experimenting with growing things in the last world, so I’ve accumulated some knowledge.”

Yuki followed and looked at the sketch plans. It even had the details in the handwriting and he glanced up from the paper to look at his friend for a minute. "Wow, seems like they sure were careful and provided a lot of details for the project."

And then he glanced to the spot where the materials were. "Guess we should get started then."

An interesting question. She still considers the seeds for a bit before returning her attention to Llewellyn. But, she decided, she would choose to trust Llewellyn. He was a good man.

"We have been planting edible things, and healing things. We want to give what we grow to people in need. But there are a few small spaces for things for us. I want something to make me smile."

"Yes. We did much research. Gili liked the idea of it. She thinks maybe she can make smaller ones to sell to wealthy people, or the farms," Lauri-Ell said. But her boss wanted her to prove it first.

And Lauri smiled as she started to search the metal pieces for the ones for the bottom of the frame.

"I believe we should start by putting together the bottom. So other things can be put into it."

Llewellyn listened with interest, it was a lovely project... Yuki didn't tend to share much with the detective, seeming quite quiet and private... But it was good to hear that he and Lauri-Ell had such a nice plan and arrangement. "That sounds quite nice, I'm sure there are more than a few people who will appreciate it in this world."

But on the subject of what Lauri-Ell wanted to plant for herself, he tilted his head slightly. "Something to make you smile though is important." He slowed the rack to look at a pack with a likeness of the flower it would grow into painted on it. "The question remains, what do you think would make you smile? A special flower? Or a blooming shrubbery, or maybe even one of those little tree things to tend to." He rubbed the side of his neck lightly, "Do you already have ideas?"

"Trees are tall. There will be no room," Lauri-Ell answered. And a shrub sounded silly. "I like flowers. Something pretty and delicate."

Were there such things?

"They could definitely use it." Yuki nodded. It would be nice to see more farms utilize the technology even if he himself didn't see it as such. But he was thinking that it might be good to distribute some of the food to the needy kids he'd seen too.

His gray eyes looked at the pieces and nodded. "Alright, let's get started."

Lauri-Ell sat herself down with the instructions and started to look them over again.

"Alright, we'll need the long pieces labeled with An A and then other letters. Those are where we start."

He have her another look over, one thin blond eyebrow raising questioningly.

"A greenhouse? Where?"

Ah, he's heard of one. She smiles more brightly at that before pointing to the blue residence.

"On the roof, so it can get sun. We will be growing plants for food and for healing."

“Most trees are, yes, but there are smaller ones meant to be cared for indoors.” He responded with a smile before nodding. “Pretty flowers, small and delicate…. We can probably find a few nice options.” He pulled a couple of seed packs off the racks. “What do you think of these?” He asked, holding them out with the picture side visible.

The detective had picked out pansies, forget-me-nots, sweet alyssum, sweet peas, impatiens and fuchsia. A variety that varied in the way they grew or spread, along with different enough colours to get an idea of an area that might be best to focus on for things that Lauri-Ell would gravitate towards.

Ther'es pictures on these? Well she looks them over. Pansies were beautiful and she thought edible, forget-me-nots like at the flower festival, sweet alyssum and the tiniest blossoms to go with it... Yes. They were all so pretty.

"I like the pansies. They have so many colors."

Llewellyn waited for her to look through the selection. It was important to be patient with decisions like this… Or at least he thought so; it was best to get exactly what you wanted. Especially if she was going to take the time and care that was required to grow them.

Smiling at her choice, he nodded. “Pansies are lovely, and they really do come in a nice selection of colours to choose from. You could probably find colours that compliment each other well to group.” He held the seed packet out to her to take, glad that he’d found one already that she liked.

Plants for food and for healing, huh? That could be useful. It also sounded like something Aerith would be interested in. He made a mental note to tell her about it.

"I didn't realize we were short on either."

Aerith had definitely spoken with Lauri-Ell just a little about growing things. She had checked.

"We are not. But locals can need it."
