Finally Time To Build A Greenhouse!

It was here. It was HERE! Lauri-Ell smiled as she looked at the large cart with layered padded out panes of carefully and custom made glass. And with it, a whole selection of the metal bars and poles and things she had made with Gili's help that were finally ready.

Lauri-Ell looked at her deliveries and looked so INSANELY gleeful, grinning massively at all she saw. She was excited, definitely excited. But...

"Now I have to get it all upstairs," she sighed. And assembled. Which she could do. But man, there was so much she had to do. "I should have arranged a day where I knew I had help."

Or someone with telekinesis, but that didn't seem likely.

2. And So The Building Begins | Blue Building Roof
Finally. It had taken her all of the day before to carefully move all of the supplies up to the roof, even with help, and the fatigue after had been too much to start the building process. So she had taken the day off, put out feelers to friends and neighbors to see if anyone wanted to help, and got up early to start in the markets. A basket of fresh turnovers and sausage rolls later, and after the making of two large pitchers of 'lemon-aid' Lauri-Ell made her way to the roof with the copies of all of the notes and designs she had made for the work.

It was time. Lauri-Ell clapped her hands together and smiled.

"Alright. Frame first I think!"

3. Things To Go In Glass Houses | Flower and Gardening Shops
Alright, now she had a lovely little greenhouse prepared, one that she could even get into. So now there was the rest that needed to be done. Which was why she had taken her cart around to a number of stores. Already she had acquired a few large bags of soil and some pots and trays for planting. But now?

Now Lauri-Ell was looking at small seedlings, not to mention bags of things proclaiming to be seeds. She looked... worried.

"But how do such very small things become such big and good plants?"

And what should she get? Food and healing things, that was what she and Yuki had agreed to.

"I don't know what to do," she mumbled unhappily.

His hat? Llewellyn reached up and plucked it off his head to offer to Lauri-Ell to get a better look at. “Um… Well, it’s not really meant to be armor. It’s more for style, though it has the nice practical use for keeping my head warm in the winter and uh… keeping my hair dry if it’s raining. So it’s more about warding off the elements than it is about protecting it physically, I suppose.” Though he wore it year round, he didn’t tend to overheat like other people did. Often cold, it seemed that summer heat didn’t bother him much.

He gestured to the hat. “We have different styles, of course. Different materials too, for different times of year. The style of mine is called a homburg, and I uh- only have the one… I suppose I’m rather partial to it, purchased it when I was promoted in my world.” He and Murdoch both were rather attached to their hats, not that either of them realized that similarity. “

How interesting. She listened very intently to every word, nodding along. These were things she intended to remember. Even the name of hte hat.

"It has the ability to ward of elements? Do you mean in the from of magic?"

Magic… Oh. He shook his head, not wanting to give Lauri-ell the wrong idea. “Ah, no… I suppose I should be more careful with some words. They’re associated differently in other worlds. You’d think I’d remember that by now.” He smiled awkwardly. “It just naturally keeps my head warm and dry. There’s no magic in my world.”

He rubbed the side of his cheek absentmindedly, “Uh- at least, not that I know of. Some suggest there might’ve been once, and others say I might just not know… But regardless, hats are not enchanted in any way.” Sometimes he was quite sure his world sounded rather boring to everyone compared to their worlds, but people were too kind to say as much.

There is no magic in his world? Actually that made sense. The Kree themselves had very little magic as it was, abandoned long, long ago. No, it was the Skrull who had brought magic to the Alliance, and the Prince of course.

"Well, it looks nice. Do you not worry that your head will be cold without it?"

Llewellyn grinned, “Thank you, I’m rather fond of it.” The detective had to nod, though. “Unless indoors, yes. I suppose I do?” He rubbed the back of his neck lightly. “It was stolen in the last world I was in, and it was rather difficult to get used to not having. I tend to find myself a bit cold, so it was quite missed.”

But replacing it had been… difficult. Llewellyn found himself fussy on the matter, and had never found anything that quite measured up. None of the possible replacements had been right, and going out without a hat had always felt a bit odd. Even if he tried to not complain about it, “I was rather lucky Raimon was somehow able to get it… Not sure how, but I have it back now and I’m rather glad for it.”

"Raimon?" Lauri asked. She really hadn't bothered to meet the man, and while she received coins that clearly weren't for normal purchases, she didn't know what they were for.

Yes, the uh... Well, he was the one who gave us those bags when we arrived. Seems to know how to get things we might not otherwise be able to here. Has a shop in the market, though I've only been there once or twice now." He smiled, "Mysterious but helpful." He wasn't sure if Lauri-Ell had been there, but he hoped if there was something she was in need of that the man would be able to assist as he had with the hat and other things.

Oh, really? Interesting.

"I remember the bag, but I didn't know he did interesting things," Lauri answered, quite intrigued. "And he got you a hat like one at home?"

“I didn’t either until I heard others speaking on the matter.” Llewellyn responded with a thoughtful tilt of his head. “And not like, I believe this is actually my hat. You see where the band and brim is worn a bit from handling and my penchant for tucking things in it.” He responded, tilting it slightly to show her more closely.

Seriously odd, though its disappearance in the last world had also been pretty odd to begin with.

Wait, his actual hat? Something from home? There was... things from home?

Hope flitted across her face.

"Do you think he could find something for me?"

"It is possible, yes. I'm not sure if he has limitations, but he seems quite uh- capable." He imagined people were out, but it seemed like most other things were. "Uh- what is it that you're thinking of, if you don't mind my asking?"

"I am not certain," Lauri admitted. "But something of Hala would be a comfort."

Even if she had not been there growing up, she was created there, and to have a piece of 'home' might be nice.

He hummed a little at that. “I encourage you to consider it then. He might just be able to deliver on the request. I have my hat, and I think he might have something to do with Pretzel’s arrival. Can’t be sure but, makes as much sense as anything.”

He finally set the hat back on his head, still somewhat curious. “I’d offer suggestions, but I confess I don’t know much about where you’re from as yet.” Though he would be interested in hearing.

"There is much I do not know of my own home," she admitted. Hala was a mystery to her. Much served as mysteries to her at this point, and all she could do was keep herself focused.

"I shall see if there are any relics of my people or home."

"Oh... I'm sorry, Lauri-Ell." He offered an apologetic expression, "That can be difficult..." He didn't really know much about where he was from, in a way. Barely remembered anything of his family or where they'd come from and why, and his sister had always refused to talk about them before she ran off... So it wasn't the same, but he could understand wanting a piece of something that felt like it was a part of you that you couldn't have.

"I'll hope that he can provide you with something, then. You must let me know if he does, I'd love to see."

"I shall, we are friends. Friends share these things, correct?" Lauri asked, smiling to herself.

She was learning to be good at this friend thing.

“You are indeed correct, we are friends and they do share things.” He smiled in response, yes she was doing very well with the whole ‘friend’ thing. At least she was, in his opinion. Friends were… Nice, but could be hard to make, even among those who should know how to make them. It just took finding the right people, and it was nice that Lauri thought of them as such.

“For now, though, I believe we should purchase these so you can get back to your mm… lovely greenhouse project.” He added with a grin, picking up the items he’d put down while they spoke.

"Yes, we should," Lauri answered, and started to pick up her things again. It was time to get moving.

"I really do want to get back to work. You're welcome to join me if you wish>'

“Of course, I’d um... Be happy to. I can at least help you get all this back to the building, and if I can offer some assistance, I’d be happy to.” He responded with a nod, shuffling things around a bit until he was sure he wouldn’t drop anything.

"Wonderful," she said, her voice cheerful. "Alright, let's make our purchases and go. I wish to work with the soil. It is pleasing in my hands."

She really did love plants.

“There is something rather satisfying about it. Especially when transferring sprouts and to their new little homes.” Llewellyn responded with a small grin, guiding her back towards the counter so they could make their purchases. “Mm… The other detective I used to work with seemed to dislike dirt though, somehow always managed to convince other people to do the digging if something needed to be found.” He commented absentmindedly.

"It is life that grows from our kindness and touch," she answered with the fondest smile. So much warmth filled her words, like there was no greater joy for her than plants.

"But if we don't get our hands dirty, how do we make new things?"

And that brought a smile to Llewellyn’s face again, it was nice to hear someone who understood that particular joy. Nurturing life and growing something with your own two hands, to know it would spread some kind of beauty and joy to those who saw it… It was nice. A change from what he was used to, perhaps… And he found something rather soothing about it. “That’s an excellent way to put it, Lauri-Ell. I like that quite a bit.”

The comment about getting one’s hands dirty gets a little, amused grin. “You’re right, of course, though he prefers mm… Methods of creation that don’t require him get covered in dirt. He tinkers with devices and machines. Invents things.” And he always seemed to keep his appearance tidy. It was an odd thing. You’d think Murdoch would at least look somewhat disheveled, but no.

"Well, we shall absolutely get our hands dirty. That is the only way to help plants."

With that she moved to the counter, more than happy to pay for all of the things that were needed.

“Of course, and you have quite the selection already to work with.” He responded as he glanced over her seed packets again, setting the watering can on the counter along with the plant sticks for her to label once she had everything planted. “And it will uh- be quite lovely, I imagine, once things start to grow.”
