[It's late in the afternoon when Jacob finally decides to make a general call to the residence of the city. He has the information that he needs to know and he trusts that everything else will come with time. He isn't in a rush and when he makes his call he's calm.

Jcaob is wearing his new fall threads, a dusty brown jacket with a dark blue scarf loosely wrapped around his neck. He's still unshaven but his hair has been brushed and is now pointed in the same direction. It's dark behind him but easy to see the warm hazel glint in his eyes.]

It's a beautiful night out. There are a lot of stars. [It's unclear where he is but he tilts the screen to show hundreds of little dots of light freckling a blanket of black.] Hopefully this doesn't wake anyone. I've become a bit of a night owl.

[Night wasn't a safe time of day for someone who can't see in the dark.]

I got my job back at Gary's carpentry but I honestly want to do something more than make furniture. If you need anything, let me know. I was a mechanic before this. So I can work with just about anything.

Seriously, anything.

[It's amazing how easily he fell back into his life here.]

Ah, yeah. [He grins.] It's Jacob. If you don't know me but want to find me.

I consider myself pretty easy to find.

So you're saying I should have brought you with me?

[The words were out of his mouth before he could stop them. He doesn't want to make Yuki feel uncomfortable.]

[Cue a bit of light coughing.]

Uhm..you..didn't..even go yet.

[Straws, he was grasping at them.]

[He shrugs and tries his best to act cool.] There's still time.

I'm sitting outside of the apartments.

[Well this new news is something he can hold onto.]

Which apartments?

Gray. I'm back in the same building though they put me in a different room.

[He doesn't remember if Yuki had been to his room before.]

Ah.

[What to say here..]

So you're going to star gaze from there?

[He hadn't been planning to stargaze but it isn't a bad idea. Any excuse to spend more time with Yuki is a good idea.]

We can walk somewhere else.

Do you know a better place?

[His mind was reeling over the whole 'we' comment. So it took him a moment or two before he came up with an answer.]

No..I don't. I haven't ever gone here.

[They have two reasonable options, a park or a rooftop. Since light pollution isn't an issue then it'd be nicer at the park and probably less cold.]

We'll go to the park.

Do you mind bringing the blanket?

[There's a lot of silence for a moment. This wasn't..no. It was just an invitation and nothing more, no need to make a big deal out of it.]

S..sure. I'll bring a couple in case you decide to show up not properly dressed again.

[He's trying to act a little more normal even if it is a tall order at the moment.]

[Jacob is a little nervous but he thinks an immediate invitation is better than planning ahead as they had before. They can finally go on their first date.

If Yuki says yes.]

Don't worry about it. I'll wear enough. [Though they probably have two different standards of cold.]

[He's unconvinced somehow that Jacob is going to be dressed enough, so he grabs a few extra blankets. And as he moves around the house, he finds his own wardrobe.]

Does this mean you're waiting for me right now? Or did you want to schedule a time?

There's no time better than now.

I'll meet you at the park.

I have a light with me.

Look for that.

[Meeting him at the park totally wasn't a date. Dates picked you up and brought you somewhere. So this wasn't that. But at least it was something and Yuki tried to keep that in mind as he got ready.]

Alright, give me about fifteen minutes.

[Because he was going to bring snacks.]

Don't make me wait too long. I might get cold.

[Jacob hopes he can turn this into a date but since he's never actually dated before... he's just going to make it up as he goes.]

That's why I'm extra blankets.

[This was said lightheartedly of course, but he said what he said.]

[Jacob can't help his goofy smile and is silently thankful that Yuki can't see it.]

I'll look forward to it.

It wasn't long before Yuki was all packed up and ready. He had purchased mini pumpkin pies and an apple torte at a local bakery, so he brought those along. Of course the tavern would be open and he'd saved his money so if they got hungry, they could eat.

Haru had been dropped off at the chocobo ranch on the way, as Yuki wanted him to socialize with the others so that they could do 'chocobo things' and the little blue bird seemed to always be happy to go back once a week.

Heading to the park now, his gray eyes looked around. It was kind of eerie if he let himself be creeped out. But he continued on his way and soon found Jacob, and immediately headed over to the man.

"There you are."

"Watch out." Jacob was already on his feet when Yuki approached, holding out a hand to stall his cute companion.

He pointed down to indicate a thin string hidden within the grass. "I put up an alarm so that if Nida asks, he knows I was taking my bad luck seriously." It's also so that they don't have to worry about someone sneaking up on them while sitting in the dark in the middle of the park. Not that Jacob thought that they'd be interrupted but the last year had taught him how to be careful. "Just step over it."

Jacob took Yuki's hand and guided him to a small clean area between a collection of bushes and trees. Above them was an opening in the canopy that displayed the magnificent dark sky, stripped and dotted with lights.

"This is a good place?" He was wearing his jeans and a new comfortable wool jacket. It wasn't too thick but it was heavy and warn, allowing Jacob to wear a t-shirt beneath it. Sitting on the ground near his feet was a bottle of something.

"So how does this blanket thing work?"

Yuki halted when Jacob held up a hand, not sure as to what was going on at all. But then he noted the string in the grass.

Ok that was different. And why was Jacob involving Nida sensei into this somehow? "You have bad luck?" Well going home might be a thing, but..whatever really. So at the other's words, Yuki stepped over the string. And then his hand was taken and that meant the world to him but he focused on the blankets in his other arm.

His eyes then went up to the beautiful sky above them and as he looked around he couldn't help but smile. "This is a great spot." But at the question, Yuki had to let go of Jacob's hand and put the other three down. I brought four. We can use two or three for the ground and the other one or two are to cover up in case we get cold."

"Yeah. I think it was the second time I met Nida I was mugged." It was Kramer's Law: if something could go wrong, it would go wrong. "Don't worry about it." Tonight was just going to be the two of them underneath the stars.

Jacob picked up the bottle and tucked it under his shoulder. "Let me help." He grabbed the edges of one of the blankets and helped Yuki spread it across the patch of grass. He waited a heartbeat and then the second blanket was laid on top of that. The blankets were slightly different sizes but it created a comfortable place for them to sit without the moisture of the grass soaking into their clothes.

Once the blankets were spread out, Jacob sat the bottle at the blanket's edge and then once again took Yuki's hand. He hadn't held another's someone's hand like this but it felt natural like Yuki's hand was met to fit in his.

"Thank you for meeting me out here." It was short notice but Jacob couldn't help himself. He wanted to spend as much time with Yuki as he could. Time hadn't dimmed his attraction but made it harder to resist.

The more Yuki heard, the more he was convinced training with sensei was a good idea. But of course he didn't say anything and just got down to the business of getting the blankets set up. It was kind of nice to have help and going through the motions of set up was a happy thing in his mind.

But then his hand was taken again and he really wasn't sure what to make of it, but he took the small backpack with the food in it and set it down with the free hand he had. His expression became puzzled at Jacob's words but he tried to fight it. "Uhm..you're welcome. You invited me out here, remember?"

Why did this seem so formal?

"I did but you didn't have to come." It was late and his request had been sudden but Yuki still agreed to meet him. As far as Jacob was concerned, that was a good sign.

"Come on." He took a seat and then gently tugged Yuki down to the blanket with him. It took some shifting but Jacob was soon sitting at the center of the blanket, his eyes steadily fixed on Yuki. He wasn't going to let go of Yuki's hand until the other man was next to him.

"I brought something to drink but I don't remember you drinking a lot." Jacob didn't drink a lot because he didn't want to impair his senses but he's yet to tell Yuki that he smokes. It would soon become obvious but Jacob wasn't sure if it would bother Yuki. It was just one of those things that had changed since he'd last been in the city.

It worried him and made him nervous but he wanted to at least let Yuki know how he felt. It was okay if Yuki didn't feel the same way.

Yuki gave Jacob a look that conveyed pretty clearly what he thought about that comment. Of course if the other called he'd show up. For some reason in his mind that was a no brainer.

But the look left his face when he got tugged down. And after he sat, he realized Jacob hadn't let go of his hand which was throwing him off. If he took his hand away would that look as if he didn't want the touch? Shouldn't he pull away out of politeness? He couldn't really figure any of this out and of course this was new to him. What should he do?

Thankfully Jacob distracted him and he shook his head. "What did you bring?" He had no idea if it was drinkable by his standards or if Jacob's were different somehow. Funny there was so much he realized he didn't know.

"Some wine, I wasn't sure what you liked. I remember that you really didn't drink a lot but I wanted tonight to be special." His ears burned as his sentence stumbled to an end. He promised to be honest with his feelings but a little part of him was scared that he'd fuck it up again.

He really wasn't good at this sort of thing.

Jacob released Yuki's hand but scooted a bit closer. He didn't want to be far from Yuki but it felt as if he needed to come up with excused for them to be in contact. His thoughts drifted to his first day back into the city, when Yuki and him had held each other close. It was a bittersweet memory, heavy with complications, but no less precious.

Lost in his thoughts, he lifted his free hand and gently brushed his fingers along Yuki's jaw, tucking a stray piece of hair behind the other man's ear. "Do you want some?" His voice softened but he didn't pull away. It was terrifying but Jacob remained close, giving Yuki a chance to answer his touch.
