A boy and his… moth? - OTA
When it came to days where he wasn’t working or practising with his abilities, Mono found that he really enjoyed the park. Sometimes he enjoyed to sitting by the pond and watching frogs or sharing bread with the local ducks that gathered nearby. If he was lucky and wandering the paths, he might meet someone who had a pet with them and they’d be okay with him giving them some friendly pets or give them a treat. Pets were always something of a curiosity for the boy. He’d met so many in the last few years! They were all so different. Different kinds, different personalities... It was always neat to meet a new one and see what people liked to keep them company.
Occasionally he wondered what it would be like to have a fuzzy friend himself, especially with Nida and Ignis’s pets or meeting Rhy’s bunnies… But he was always a bit afraid of if he'd be a good pet-parent or not, considering the responsibility and how crushing it might be if the creature he got attached to suddenly decided it disliked him...
Fate was a funny thing, though, and the universe sometimes liked to throw a surprise or two at you. For Mono, one crossed his path on one of the days he spent wandering around the park. The boy was walking around a bush when he was greeted by a large fluffy, fluttering moth creature with big curious eyes and a playful demeanour. It made Mono stop short for a moment with a little start of surprise. “Wow... You’re so fluffy, and big, and cute!!” The child murmured in awe at its soft white appearance, tilting his head one way and another as the oversized moth mimicked his head’s movement in midair playfully. “You remind me a little of something I saw in my world, but less sad! Where’d you come from…?” And then, a little more cautiously. “You’re friendly, right?”
The creature had no answer beyond a slight, quiet squeak. Mono considered the not-quite-answer carefully, before he decided that it was safe enough. It was just so cute, and it seemed really excited to see him! It had to be nice, right? So he reached out carefully, just to test the waters a little. With a couple of gentle pats to the soft, fluffy thorax behind its head, he found it fluttering closer to flutter around his head. “H-hey that tickles!” He giggled a little as it brushed by a cheek, and he shook his head. Yup, definitely friendly! So, he guessed that meant he made a new friend, right? A friend he didn’t know the name of, but still a friend!
Now begged the question, what did you do with a giant moth friend…? Admittedly, Mono wasn’t sure. He doubted they were like the animals he learned about here. Tilting his head curiously, he addressed his friend with a curious little chirp. “Do you like to play? Or do you wanna go for a walk? I know people take their fuzzy creatures for walks sometimes or play at the park.” He tapped his chin. “Except Mr. Rhy’s bunnies, I think they just explore their hutch. But I don’t think you would like that, ‘cause you can fly and all and your wings are so big.”
The creature, if given words, would probably agree with that. She’s much too big and fluttery for small spaces. Mono also couldn’t forget how sad the confined ones had been in his world. So... Decision made! “Okay, let’s go explore the rest of the park! Maybe we can find stuff you like or find snacks. I wonder what you eat...” He mused to himself, as he started walking and his new friend fluttered along in the air next to him, offering the odd friendly squeaking sound in return to the boy’s musings.
Probably made for an interesting sight to anyone nearby who happened to see the two playing around the park. Either playing an odd game of hide and seek or climbing trees and enjoying the view and a little rest while puzzling over what to do about snacks.
(Well, one of them climbed. The other was fluttering around to find a branch to land on to keep an eye on the other.)

"Hey kid!" Zack says, calling out toward him. Maybe if he was lucky he be able to get the kid away from danger!

The boy stopped short, though, when he heard an adult calling for his attention. “Huh?” The moth took this moment to score another point in their game by landing lightly on his head and looking like a funny, fluffy hat. “Aw nuts…!” He mumbled, sounding disappointed; he had been doing so good! “Guess you win this one.” He commented with a tiny glance up, before fixing his eyes on Zack curiously.
The boy didn’t know Zack, and he hadn’t been following new people around as much as he used to… But he could at least hear the guy out to see what he wanted, even if he had made him lose the game. “What is it, mister?” He asked, studying the guy skeptically.

“Are you okay?” He asked in return with a slight tilt of his head, the moth’s wings fluttering lightly to maintain balance before the boy straightened.
no subject
And more importantly, he's worried. Doesn't the kid know that random wild animals could be tainted monsters that want to eat you?
no subject
The moth is still on his head. Its feelers wiggled a little in Zack’s direction, observing him carefully from its comfortable perch.
“I don’t see any animals around, except maybe a squirrel by the trees over there.” He said finally, looking back at the apparent hero again. It was not connecting at all that Zack meant the moth. Because giant moths were normal where he came from, and compared to everything else there… They didn’t seem dangerous at all. The boy viewed them on the same level as Nomes. He hadn’t ever gotten to know one properly before now, on account of all the actual dangerous things, but so far he was quite pleased to find he’d been right.
no subject
And that's going to be a problem, right? Super right. Zack needs to save him.

… Even if it was still kinda confusing to Mono that he seemed worried in the first place. “Wait, you mean the moth? Moths are just bugs, and she’s the nice kind. She won’t bite, unless you’re a leaf. She’s been munching on those between games. Oh, and kinda my coat once… but I just found her more leaves then.” He babbled a bit in his quiet voice, giving the guy a clumsy half smile.
Had the guy just never seen a moth before? Wait… Right, moths weren’t that big here normally. “I think she’s from my world, moths in my world are super big. ‘cause everything is super big aside from kids like me.”

"Bugs that size in my world want to hurt things. And people."

The races at the Coliseum seemed to be slowing down, and he had to cut a lot of time out there so that his home could be finished. When he started working at the carpentry place, he never thought he'd end up taking on his friend Jacob's work, but he had and had learned quite a bit.
Hearing someone talking, Terra's head came up. He spotted Mono climbing a tree and saw that there was something flying near his head. His steps quickened in case something was wrong, but whatever this was keeping the boy company seemed to mean no harm.
Keeping a small distance, he folded his arms across his chest with a smile. "Looks like you found a new friend."
no subject
At the voice, they both looked down and the one who could speak spoke up! “Oh, hey Terra! Yeah, isn’t she cute?? I just met her, but she’s really nice and good at playing tag!”
no subject
Blue eyes peered at the new friend Mono had made briefly before returning to rest on the young boy. "She is cute. And you said you just met her today?"
no subject
So meeting his new friend today felt kinda special!
no subject
He then turned his gaze to the creature who seemed content if that could be said of them. But as long as the boy was happy and he did seem that way, Terra wasn't going to say anything.
"Glad you found a new friend here."
Because that was important.
no subject
“Me too. It’s kinda nice to have someone to hang out with.” He responded with a little nod. He liked his adult friends too, of course! But this was a little different, and it was nice to have a quiet companion. Someone he didn’t have to feel weird about talking to about some things that he wasn’t sure how to explain to adults who were used to very different places.
no subject
"The wings remind me of a pixie I met once. But..her wings weren't that big of course." He was of course referring to Tinkerbell, but he didn't mention her by name. Once he'd freed her of that cage the captain was holding her in, she kicked the man in the face. And then that crocodile showed up with that odd ticking sound.
Looking back at Mono now, he nodded and folded his arms across his chest. "Friends are good for things like that. Hopefully everyone here can find a good friend."
And it made him miss Ven and Aqua at that thought.
no subject
The comment gets a small nod. “Yeah, good friends who know how to be friends.” Because there were, unfortunately, people in the boy’s experience who didn’t seem to know what friendship was supposed to be. Six had meant the world to him, and then she’d left… Here was different, though. He wanted here to be different, even if he was a bit wearier of people outside the few who’d proven to care about him. “Do you got any friends here yet?”

"Mono?!" She called out as she moved over to where he was. "Careful! There seems to be some sort of creature coming towards you!" As if he hadn't already noticed the thing.
no subject
So, he was slightly confused by the warning… but answering while he was still dangling from a branch was kind of silly, so he finished pulling himself up to sit more securely before he called down to his friend. The moth fluttered around a bit before lighting on the branch next to his side and wiggling its feelers in Mitsuru’s direction. “Hey Mitsuru! I didn’t see anything bad. Do you mean the moth?”
Because he did at least understand at this point in the day that the moth was kind of bigger than people were used to.
no subject
"This is definitely not like any moth I've seen before..." she narrowed her eyes from him to it. "Is it...yours then?" She sounded rather perplexed about the very idea that it could be his somehow. If it was, where did he get it? Or better yet, where had it come from? Was it harmless...?
no subject
When she did finally respond, he tilted his head slightly at her narrowed gaze with a slightly curious look. “Thought so.” He responded bluntly, but innocently. “A few people said that today, but they’re pretty normal in my world. But not in the bad way things are normal in my world, they’re nice!” He continued a moment later when he realized he should probably say more.
“I dunno if she’s mine. She just showed up earlier while I was playing. But she can stay with me if she wants to, ‘cause she’s nice and good at playing tag.” The boy responded to the question, unsure if he could say the creature he just met was specifically his. But he’d been thinking a lot about pets lately, considering the ones the adults he lived with had and the other pets he’d met…
no subject
"Are they? What are they called?" What sort of species was it exactly? Not that she entirely expected he'd know the answer to that. It seemed like his world held as many mysteries as this one.
"How strange...I wonder where she came from."
no subject
The comment gets a little shrug. “Right? Never saw her around before today.” He looked down at the moth, still returning Mitsuru’s looks of judgement with its own mothy version, the antenna still wiggling a bit. “Maybe it’s like the nomes from my story, and just kinda here ‘cause I mentioned them to a few people before?” Only… Mono hoped not, the nomes disappeared at the end of last month and that had been a kind of sad. He didn’t want to see another new friend go.
no subject
"That's possible...I suppose we'll have to wait to see if it disappears at any point. If not then..." she tapped her chin thoughtfully. "I'd be very curious to know where it came from. "
no subject
The boy nodded though, “Yeah I guess so… Kinda hope she doesn’t though, be nice if she could stay.” And he hoped she’d want to stay with him. He was still hesitant to assume she would, and the boy certainly didn’t want to try to force the moth to stay with him. That would just be mean, after all. “You would?” He wondered if it really mattered where the moth came from, though, as long as she wanted to stick around. It seemed to matter to Mitsuru, though, so maybe it was important. “I guess if it’s not like the stories, then maybe someone brought it here from my world some other way. Like the guy with the shop, Raimon?” Mono supposed he had talked to him while carrying messages about moths once or twice, and he was good at bringing stuff from other worlds.
