A boy and his… moth? - OTA
When it came to days where he wasn’t working or practising with his abilities, Mono found that he really enjoyed the park. Sometimes he enjoyed to sitting by the pond and watching frogs or sharing bread with the local ducks that gathered nearby. If he was lucky and wandering the paths, he might meet someone who had a pet with them and they’d be okay with him giving them some friendly pets or give them a treat. Pets were always something of a curiosity for the boy. He’d met so many in the last few years! They were all so different. Different kinds, different personalities... It was always neat to meet a new one and see what people liked to keep them company.
Occasionally he wondered what it would be like to have a fuzzy friend himself, especially with Nida and Ignis’s pets or meeting Rhy’s bunnies… But he was always a bit afraid of if he'd be a good pet-parent or not, considering the responsibility and how crushing it might be if the creature he got attached to suddenly decided it disliked him...
Fate was a funny thing, though, and the universe sometimes liked to throw a surprise or two at you. For Mono, one crossed his path on one of the days he spent wandering around the park. The boy was walking around a bush when he was greeted by a large fluffy, fluttering moth creature with big curious eyes and a playful demeanour. It made Mono stop short for a moment with a little start of surprise. “Wow... You’re so fluffy, and big, and cute!!” The child murmured in awe at its soft white appearance, tilting his head one way and another as the oversized moth mimicked his head’s movement in midair playfully. “You remind me a little of something I saw in my world, but less sad! Where’d you come from…?” And then, a little more cautiously. “You’re friendly, right?”
The creature had no answer beyond a slight, quiet squeak. Mono considered the not-quite-answer carefully, before he decided that it was safe enough. It was just so cute, and it seemed really excited to see him! It had to be nice, right? So he reached out carefully, just to test the waters a little. With a couple of gentle pats to the soft, fluffy thorax behind its head, he found it fluttering closer to flutter around his head. “H-hey that tickles!” He giggled a little as it brushed by a cheek, and he shook his head. Yup, definitely friendly! So, he guessed that meant he made a new friend, right? A friend he didn’t know the name of, but still a friend!
Now begged the question, what did you do with a giant moth friend…? Admittedly, Mono wasn’t sure. He doubted they were like the animals he learned about here. Tilting his head curiously, he addressed his friend with a curious little chirp. “Do you like to play? Or do you wanna go for a walk? I know people take their fuzzy creatures for walks sometimes or play at the park.” He tapped his chin. “Except Mr. Rhy’s bunnies, I think they just explore their hutch. But I don’t think you would like that, ‘cause you can fly and all and your wings are so big.”
The creature, if given words, would probably agree with that. She’s much too big and fluttery for small spaces. Mono also couldn’t forget how sad the confined ones had been in his world. So... Decision made! “Okay, let’s go explore the rest of the park! Maybe we can find stuff you like or find snacks. I wonder what you eat...” He mused to himself, as he started walking and his new friend fluttered along in the air next to him, offering the odd friendly squeaking sound in return to the boy’s musings.
Probably made for an interesting sight to anyone nearby who happened to see the two playing around the park. Either playing an odd game of hide and seek or climbing trees and enjoying the view and a little rest while puzzling over what to do about snacks.
(Well, one of them climbed. The other was fluttering around to find a branch to land on to keep an eye on the other.)

So he looked up at the question with a small tilt of his head. He’d just been calling it his friend… Did it have a name? “Umm… Unless she’s already got one, I don’t think so?” Mono had never really named anything before, but at least he had the idea that it was important. All the animals Nida and Ignis had around the house had names! “I guess if she doesn’t got one, she might like to have one, huh?”
Mono had to admit, Raimon didn’t seem good with questions. But he was good at other stuff! “Maybe that’s ‘cause he’s not here for answering questions. He’s here for finding stuff? At least, he seems really good at finding stuff for people from other places.”

She really did care far too much about what others thought about her.
"I suppose that could be, though everyone should be capable of answering questions, particularly about the location they live in. He's been here far longer than any of us. Unless...he was simply created for that purpose and that purpose alone..." That was something she hadn't considered.

Mono guessed that was true… But he also knew there were a lot of questions about his own world he couldn’t exactly answer. At least not in a satisfactory way for people who asked, based on prior experiences. Plus, if it wasn’t his job to answer questions and he didn’t wanna, why would he? Though the boy tilted his head slightly as Mitsuru continued. That sounded kinda complicated, really… “I dunno how that kinda thing works, but maybe! So if that’s true, then he wouldn’t know more than we do aside from stuff about his job?”
no subject
"I suppose you are correct there. If that was true, he'd be in a similar situation to us. I wish we knew if it were correct or not..." Yet, like most things in this place, they didn't.

Also, he supposed, if it made sense to name a moth that… But he nodded, “Thanks Mitsuru!” He added, remembering the manners he’d learned here, since Mitsuru had at least told him what she knew about naming!
“I dunno how to tell, either.” Though Mono wasn’t overly concerned with the mysteries of this world beyond everyone he liked being safe and avoiding some of the things that could make this place bad to live in for everyone.

"The information wasn't really worth a thank you, but you're welcome all the same." She said with a smile. "A thing to think about another day. I'm certain playing with your new friend is much more interesting than thinking on the strange intricacies of this world."

The boy thought the information was super worth thanking, because it was important to learn and Mono tended to eat up whatever bits of knowledge he could when people offered it. There was so much he didn’t know when you got right down to it.
But he had to agree, a small clumsy grin crossing his face. “Yeah, kinda!” He is an honest child at the end of the day. “Just ‘cause there’s a lot I wanna learn about my friend too, you know? Like what kinda stuff she likes to eat and what kinda games she likes to play.”
no subject
She nods at his statement. "Those are all important things to know. Particularly what she likes to eat. I wonder if she has a specific diet?"
no subject
A specific diet… “I guess she might? I know Ignis and Nida’s cats eat certain stuff, so maybe moths do, too?” Did the moth just know what it should or shouldn’t eat? It had been nibbling on his coat earlier, maybe they didn’t know they weren’t supposed to do that… Hmm… “Mostly I’ve been watching what she’s been eating around the park, I wonder if there're books and stuff about moths?” He knew some books had useful information like that, instead of just stories.
If there was, he should probably read about them…
no subject
"Most animals have certain things they can and cannot eat. I believe moths eat mostly nectar and leaves." Though she had no idea what something like this would eat. Would it be the same sort of food or something unique to it? "I would suggest you check the library here."
no subject
But he nodded in agreement at her suggestion, “She has been eating leafy things between games, and almost my coat once… But mostly leafy stuff! So I guess leaves make the most sense. I wonder how I could get her nectar, though. That’s in flowers, right?” He rambled a little, but she had given him a lot to think about on that subject. “Yeah, that’s true! They got more books than I ever saw before there, even more than the school did, I think!” It was messy, though, he recalled. It would take some good exploring time. “I sometimes like to go looking for stories, but they probably got stuff on moths too.” They must, right? They had so many books. What were the odds that there wasn’t even one about moths!
no subject
"They do, don't they? I quite enjoy visiting there. Perhaps you could reccomend me a story or two sometime." She was always looking for something new to read after all and she really did need to venture outside of educational content. It was exceptionally rare for her to do anything simply for the sake of entertainment.

Mono wondered what kind of stories Mitsuru would like. He’d never been asked for recommendations before! “Yeah? I could probably do that if ya want. I’ll try to think of some good ones.”
