Hello my lovelies! I can hear again, in case those who learned of my last issues were curious. What a horrible thing not to have when it happens so suddenly. So scary.

But there is a thing to be said of course. I had plenty of time to read while I was isolated, and I have become resolved. I shall be acquiring a lovely sweet fluffy rabbit for myself. Perhaps a second one later too. One of those with fur suited to thread, but it's not about that.

I've been looking at so many books to research what I need, but I realize there are not a lot of places in town where they have the things I would need. I know I need to commission the work for a hutch, but where in the world am I to find suitable toys for the thingS? I hear they like tunnels to snuggle in too, and I don't know how I'd achieve that.

Oh dear, I at least understood dogs, I was ready for one of those in theory. But this is so much to learn!

I don’t know that I would use the term dying, exactly… [ But it would be a lie to say magic during the age of gods hadn’t been easier or more potent. ] I would say it’s more diminished compared to ages gone by. Sure, some magics have been lost, but it can’t be said to be dying as new magics are developed or the lost one rediscovered and introduced to the modern age.

Compared to where you're from, I’m sure that’s a reasonable way to look at it. And it’s been made clear since I arrived that a lot of worlds have very different systems than that of my own.

But just because something is changed, or less than it once was, doesn’t mean that it’s disappearing entirely. That’s not to say it wont one day, especially if the modern world makes advancements that endanger the preservation of the mysteries of magic. [ He shrugs lightly. Things aren’t so simple. It might stay as it is, or it might drop off and actually move towards an end, like Rhy suggested. ] A long time ago, mages heavily relied on the gods for power. That age ended when mages of the past decided that they didn’t want to rely on them anymore. Instead, magecraft now relies heavily on preserving the mysteries of it. The more unknown something remains, the more potent it is. So mages focus on their own family’s magecraft, and improving their Crest over generations in the hopes that one day someone in their family will reach the root of magic.

So things change, and we develop and create new forms of magecraft in the world, or recover those lost from past ages. The department I run at the school I work at is dedicated to modern mage craft theories.

And I have as hard a time imagining a world where almost everyone has access to magic and that secrecy of some sort is unnecessary, though I accept that it must be so. [ He offers one of his lighter expressions at that, almost a smile. ] If there’s anything that’s interesting about being swept up into this place, it’s hearing about other kinds of magic in other worlds.

[ ‘Cause he’s a nerd. And on that note, he raises a brow. ]

I suppose Antari are something specific to your world as well?

I see… So their skills are more rounded than those who can only use one element… Traversing worlds is quite a talent; I take it that with the doors being shut between realms that it makes an Antari quite important. [ And, well… Rhy had to know this was coming. ] Are you of the sort skilled with an element or…?

[ Well, shit. Waver cursed himself internally as he realized that he may have pursued a line of questions that were better left untraveled. And it’s something he can understand quite well himself, given his lacking circuits and the unimpressive Velvet family crest. He knows what people are like when you’re seen as beneath them for lacking what everyone else around you has. ]

Ah… So you were one of the few you mentioned. I can understand how frustrating that can be if you’re surrounded by people with greater abilities than yourself. I apologize for touching on a subject that isn’t pleasant.

That is fortunate. [ He’s known older mage families that disowned children when they disappointed them for similar reasons. ] Your brother is? That must have been complicated growing up.

[ Maybe that was why his parents weren’t holding it against him. If they had a child that was that powerful to focus on? At least… That was how it could be with the more traditional mage families in his world. ]

So you’re close despite your differences, then. [ Absently, he does find himself wondering more about the man’s background at the next comment. It calls to mind how he’d carried himself during the whole loss of hearing ordeal… ] I suppose siblings do tend to watch out for one another, even the ones that don’t always see eye to eye.

[ Even he and Reines, despite not being related… Well, he worried about her more than he liked to admit and he was pretty sure it was a mutual in her… odd way. ]

Ah… It can be a bit hard to get that point across sometimes, I think. [ He admitted awkwardly. Actually talking about emotions was a bit hit and miss for him in general… And it was worse for his foster sister, really. ] But if he’s been there for you when you were in trouble, I’m sure he knows on some level?

[personal profile] ask_whydunit 2023-05-06 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Then I suppose your hopes have an answer. [ He commented with a tilt of his head. ] Family can be… complicated. Everyone has their own ways of expressing things, I think. I still don’t know how to get something through my foster sister’s head half the time, not without her finding a reason to tease first.

Guess that’s normal for some siblings, then.

[ Maybe their respective siblings would say the same thing about them if they were the ones talking, though. ]
ask_whydunit: (A tired man)

[ And Reines might delight in describing how peculiar Waver was… or how amusing he was to get a rise out of. ]

It is a rather… loose term, normal in the context that siblings tend to be difficult with one another at times… But I would say life situations are hardly normal even without counting where we are now… You rather struck me as though your life must be somewhat… complicated? When we last met.

My experience here so far suggests that almost dying is a regular occurrence.

[ So not much different from home for him. ]

But if you say it’s been simple enough for rabbits, I suppose there must be some breaks here and there.

(ooc: totally understand if you wanna wrap this here given how old it is, you are getting tag outs today I promise <3)

[ He supposed he could say his life stayed consistent, even here, at least… That was a positive, right? … Waver wasn’t great at being positive. ]

That must be something of a comfort, having your husband with you. I had noticed some people arrive from the same world, while others remain alone.
