Seas-ing the day

Who; Ignis & you damn it (don't forget to tag in!)
What; Food on the beach
Where; Beach
When; During beach timez
Warnings; N/A

Ignis stood looking over out at the water as the coals were preparing for the food he had nearby. In a container near the heat he had all the ingredients for the food that he planned on cooking for the day.

He planned on making meat, chicken and shrimp along with some veggies which had been marinating for awhile now. Cheeseburgers were plentiful, along with buns, bacon and all manners of condiments. And there were some chicken breasts he planned to grill as well as well as corn. Not going on the grill was a fresh pasta salad or two.

Fresh fruit had been carefully prepared too, although there were no strawberries present, nor would there be. Drinks were plentiful as well as containers for ice. Snacks could be found along with some wraps as well.

Ignis had no idea how many people might come over to get food, so he did have help in bringing all of this to the beach. He'd heard about the beach simply popping up out of nowhere and had checked it out on the back of his chocobo. Once he'd been satisfied he was definitely getting what he considered 'the best spot in the house'.

When someone would come up to check things out, he'd nod with a smile as he got the food going, making sure a drink was handy for the newcomer.

"And how are you today?"

Llewellyn nodded at the question. “Yup, sand sharks… At least those are the rumors I’ve heard around the city since the beach appeared. It’s an odd sounding thing, certainly.” He responded, gesturing lightly before his eyes turned towards the sandy shore again.

“The rumors suggest that they swim through sand, and I’ve never heard of sharks that could do that. If rumors are to be believed, they can make it as far as the rocky parts of the shore.” His brow wrinkled lightly. He rather hoped the rumors were only that. A rumor. Llewellyn wasn’t fond of the idea of bringing loved ones to the beach and finding themselves in the company of something dangerous. “That said, a few of the people who claimed they saw something aren’t entirely sure if their eyes were playing tricks on them or not… Could be nothing, like the old stories of a monster in Lake Ontario back in my world, or could be something.”

Because who knew with this world, anything was possible.

“As did I, before I heard people speaking of it.” But worlds like this were different, and had already proven that there were a few creatures that differed from what could be found in his own world. This was just… Less pleasant to think about, with the potential issues it could cause for anyone visiting the shore.

The question gets a small, slightly amused smile. “Yes,in my world, there have been myths about an uh- monster in Lake Ontario for a very long time. They’re only that, though…” As far as he knew, at least. There had been no concrete evidence to suggest it was anything more than a story. “Well- aside from a rather cranky old man trying to chase people away from the beach since he lived near it. Rigged together something to fool people.” It was before his time at Station House 4, but considering the beach was a nice place to spend time for free, he’d still heard tell of the case from those working the area.

He didn’t believe in one in lake Ontario for a few reasons, though they were more serious than a matter of if something could exist in his world or not. But he shook his head lightly at the question. The fact that it had fooled anyone at all was really quite amazing, especially the inspector. Not that the man would care for him to point that out if he were there.

Rubbing the side of his face lightly, he tried to recall the details he’d been told. Leaving some of the less pleasant aspects of the case out for his friend. “Well- from what I remember being said… He decorated one of his lobster traps? Covered it in burlap sacks, used a couple fishing glass floats for eyes and a shark skeleton’s jaws. I suppose from a great distance it looked fairly alarming to people.”

“Yup, fooled my boss, apparently.” And that man was quite skeptical. He almost wished he could have been around for that to see such a time when the Inspector was fooled and George was the one telling everyone something wasn’t possible. It sounded like a weird reverse world or something. That said, the wish wasn’t as strong as it once was… He still had complicated feelings about the inspector, most of them bad and tired at this point.

That said, there were a lot of things that would easily fool someone from his era. Things of the future would be probably blow their minds, and Llewellyn knew it had been a lot for him to take in and adjust to in the last world.

Llewellyn nodded, though. “It would make a rather odd decoration, I think. Not quite big enough for a costume. Still, it was enough to fool a lot of people, even if it didn’t chase people away from the beach permanently.” At the end of the day, people still loved a beach day. Even all the way back then.

“Apparently it was. I sometimes wish I could have seen the look on his face. He’s quite skeptical more often than not.” He responded with a small shake of his head.

He had to agree with Ignis, though. The beach was always calling to people at this time of year if they lived near enough. “You are certainly correct on that front. Inexpensive diversions from the drudgery of one week, and the summers where I’m from tend toward rather unpleasant heatwaves. So many found visiting the beach was always one of the better ways to handle the heat.” At least for other people, Llewellyn still never seemed to even notice the heat compared to everyone else.

“There really is something for most people at the beach. Seems to be the same across worlds by the sound of it.” He agreed with a light smile. Sure, there were people who didn’t like the beach… But Llewellyn at least had some good memories of spending time at them in his youth. He glanced up, though, at the question directed at him and his plate. A small chuckle escaping, considering Llewellyn was often thought to have a hollow leg. “I certainly do. What would you recommend of uh- all this delicious food?” He asked, taking the chef’s thoughts into consideration.

“I agree. It would be nice if things were as nice as they seem to be and everyone just gets to enjoy the space.” He responded with a nod. At least he hadn’t seen anything yet, or heard anything while lingering close to the short even now. It all seemed… Well, nice and peaceful. Everyone enjoying themselves and Ignis’s cooking, of course.

His eyes widened at the offering. Ignis really hadn’t been kidding when he asked if Llewellyn was still hungry, but it certainly was an appreciated selection. He tended to graze, after all, and this would keep him going well through the afternoon. At the man’s smile and comment, the detective offered one of his own as he took a little of everything to try. “I uh- dare say I should be set for a while, Ignis. But I will, thank you. The pretzels are always a favourite, the ones you make are always excellent.” Because, of course, pretzels were always going to be his favourite of any food selection.

Pretzels would certainly never be left over if Llewellyn were around and aware they were there.

He grinned at the offer, ducking his head in an appreciative nod. “I certainly could never say no to taking a few home. I know Rhy would uh- enjoy the treat himself, after all.” He had gotten his husband as addicted to them as he was, after all. It was part of how they’d met, really. So he would undoubtedly share should Ignis really send him with extras. It would make for some nice snacks here and there.

They were getting better in the kitchen, but baking was not a skill they’d acquired with the skill to make something like a good pretzel.

Llewellyn appreciated the package that his friend had put together. It would all make a very nice treat to bring home to his husband and give them a little variety to enjoy. So he offered Ignis a smile, as he started to realize it might be best to let the man get back to his cooking without too much interruption. It had been nice to talk, but he did realize he tended to linger a little longer than most once he got settled in a conversation. “Thank you, my friend. That’s uh- a very generous gesture. I assure you, it’s quite appreciated and Rhy will agree.”

He offered the other a smile as he tucked the bag of food under an arm to carry with him. “I will see you around, then. Mm… Have a lovely day, and I thank you again.”

“I will certainly keep that in mind. Have a lovely afternoon, Ignis!” He added with a light smile as he nodded in parting, finally making his way back on course away from the beach and on to the rest of his day. Heading homeward with the snacks his generous friend had provided.
