[It's late in the afternoon when Jacob finally decides to make a general call to the residence of the city. He has the information that he needs to know and he trusts that everything else will come with time. He isn't in a rush and when he makes his call he's calm.
Jcaob is wearing his new fall threads, a dusty brown jacket with a dark blue scarf loosely wrapped around his neck. He's still unshaven but his hair has been brushed and is now pointed in the same direction. It's dark behind him but easy to see the warm hazel glint in his eyes.]
It's a beautiful night out. There are a lot of stars. [It's unclear where he is but he tilts the screen to show hundreds of little dots of light freckling a blanket of black.] Hopefully this doesn't wake anyone. I've become a bit of a night owl.
[Night wasn't a safe time of day for someone who can't see in the dark.]
I got my job back at Gary's carpentry but I honestly want to do something more than make furniture. If you need anything, let me know. I was a mechanic before this. So I can work with just about anything.
Seriously, anything.
[It's amazing how easily he fell back into his life here.]
Ah, yeah. [He grins.] It's Jacob. If you don't know me but want to find me.
I consider myself pretty easy to find.
[ooc: If you want to do an action, feel free to tag my test drive post. I'm keeping it as game canon since it's my umbrella for general arrival interactions.]

[ She shrugs. ]
Still trapped here. How was your return home?
no subject
Is it selfish to say that I'm glad to see you again?
no subject
[ She falls silent. ]
Slightly, but most would say that I'm selfish myself. [ And she probably wouldn't argue too much about it. ]
no subject
[Its a little disorienting.]
I'm selfish. I think it's natural to be selfish. Is that causing you problems?
[He's always been a little worried about Illyana.]
no subject
[ It was a bit odd for her to try to keep a conversation going, but at least she was trying. Maybe it wasn't even that bad of an attempt. ]
A lot has caused me problems lately.
no subject
[He's a lot more open than he used to be.]
Want to vent? We can take turns.
[Jacob pauses and then considers.]
I can buy you a beer if it helps.
It helps me.
no subject
[ She pauses for a second at his question, a bit awkwardly. ]
I suppose I have no reason to say no.
no subject
I'll never force you Illyana.
I consider you a friend and I want to lend you a hand if I can.
no subject
I suppose I have nothing better to do.
no subject
[A beat.]
I think.
I'll meet you at the pub. I have some cash so it'll be my treat.
[ooc: to action?]
action
Welcome back.
action
Ah, you beat me.
[He takes a seat and waves over a waiter to get them some drinks.]
Thanks. I think. Things have been a bit hectic. Though I did find out that it's been about eight months since I was here last. I bet you have a lot of awesome stories with how crazy this city can be.
I on the other hand, returned home in time for a war to break out.
no subject
Awesome would be stretching it. [ Perhaps she had a few interesting stories, but for the most part she would consider most of the things that happened here rather boring. It was probably quite the opposite for some people, but her life back in her own world was interesting to say the least.
She rested her chin on a hand. ]
Your war sounds much more interesting.
no subject
It's never dull but I think I'm one of those boring people who like it dull. I'd much rather hear interesting stories than living them.
Not that life gives us much of a choice.
[He waits until their drinks arrive and takes a large swig of his ale before really talking about his home and what's going on there.] Did I tell you much about my home before I left? I think I remember we talked about magic some but my time here before is a bit fuzzy.
no subject
My brother felt that way sometimes. Though he could never stay away from preforming in the stories for long. [ Most that she knew couldn't. They all said they wanted boring, they wanted peace, and yet they always came back.
She shook her head. ]
No, you never said too much.
no subject
Ah. You know, I don't really remember a year ago. Here or at home. So much has happened that it's all a bit fuzzy. [It's hard for Jake to keep track of everything though he's fairly sure that he's only really spoken to Nida about his past and only remembers scratching the surface.]
To start this off, I had moved from New York to Seattle about 4 years ago. It was good because I separated myself from my sister and the people who were a little more than human. They're just called Hidden. I assume because no one really thinks they exist. Anyway, I was out of it for a few years after that. I kinda liked it.
[He takes a sip of his beer and thinks back.]
But I was eventually targeted in this super human war because my sister is a god. Well, really close to a god anyway. Since I'm her only blood relative still alive.
[He shrugs.] We haven't had the best luck.
But it got to the point that I couldn't stay out of it because I would have been killed. Personally, I like staying alive. [That hadn't always been the case but now Jake has things to live for.]
no subject
Few people with great power are actually gods. [ Which was a good thing. ] Is the war over her power or did she actually do something to start it? [ She could see it going either way. ]
You sound very bothered by having been dragged into it.
no subject
It isn't over yet. She's still learning how to use it and they were trying to minimize causalities. Which draws it out more.
She didn't start it. Really, both of us got dragged into it. Me being her brother and her being awakened as the Creator.
no subject
How does one just awaken to be the creator?
no subject
[He really doesn't blame his sister. It would be like blaming her for existing and he was happy to have an older sister.]
I don't know. I think it woke up with her emotions though. A lot of magic seems to be linked to how people feel.
no subject
It is the same with my kind. A lot of our abilities are tied with our emotions and that can cause... issue. [ That was putting it nicely. ] Usually issues with accidental casualties.
no subject
[He grins thinking back to the few friends he'd managed to make while living in New York.]
All my friends back then were mages of some kind. Well, sort of friends. We existed around each other and went to school together. I was the only one there without any power but it never seemed to be much of a problem.
Anyway, I got to hear about a lot of their awakenings. It was mostly only bad for those who were connected to fire but I've heard stories of other things. My sister made our entire town forget that she existed for a little over a month.
no subject
That doesn't seem like it would be too bad for you and your sister. At least then she could get around without having to worry about people knowing her, right?
no subject
[All of the kids around him had also lost a parent or both parents to the war, just like Jacob had.]
It isn't too bad. Only that she did it by accident. I know at least one kid went a bit crazy during that time. Talking about a girl no one remembered.
no subject
Unfortunate for that kid. Though perhaps he should have learned to be quite sooner rather than later.
