[It's late in the afternoon when Jacob finally decides to make a general call to the residence of the city. He has the information that he needs to know and he trusts that everything else will come with time. He isn't in a rush and when he makes his call he's calm.

Jcaob is wearing his new fall threads, a dusty brown jacket with a dark blue scarf loosely wrapped around his neck. He's still unshaven but his hair has been brushed and is now pointed in the same direction. It's dark behind him but easy to see the warm hazel glint in his eyes.]

It's a beautiful night out. There are a lot of stars. [It's unclear where he is but he tilts the screen to show hundreds of little dots of light freckling a blanket of black.] Hopefully this doesn't wake anyone. I've become a bit of a night owl.

[Night wasn't a safe time of day for someone who can't see in the dark.]

I got my job back at Gary's carpentry but I honestly want to do something more than make furniture. If you need anything, let me know. I was a mechanic before this. So I can work with just about anything.

Seriously, anything.

[It's amazing how easily he fell back into his life here.]

Ah, yeah. [He grins.] It's Jacob. If you don't know me but want to find me.

I consider myself pretty easy to find.

I see. [ She looked thoughtful for a moment and then shook her head. ]

It is the same with my kind. A lot of our abilities are tied with our emotions and that can cause... issue. [ That was putting it nicely. ] Usually issues with accidental casualties.

Same for her and many who learned magic around me.

[He grins thinking back to the few friends he'd managed to make while living in New York.]

All my friends back then were mages of some kind. Well, sort of friends. We existed around each other and went to school together. I was the only one there without any power but it never seemed to be much of a problem.

Anyway, I got to hear about a lot of their awakenings. It was mostly only bad for those who were connected to fire but I've heard stories of other things. My sister made our entire town forget that she existed for a little over a month.

Impressive that you didn't encounter problems yourself. [ In all honesty she wasn't entirely certain if he'd have had the same experience in her own world. There weren't many reasons for her people to be too tolerant of regular humans anymore. As time went on the divide seemed to get even bigger. ]

That doesn't seem like it would be too bad for you and your sister. At least then she could get around without having to worry about people knowing her, right?

I ran into some problems but it wasn't so bad. [He pauses briefly.] Comparatively. We had all lost something so even if I was different, we had that in common.

[All of the kids around him had also lost a parent or both parents to the war, just like Jacob had.]

It isn't too bad. Only that she did it by accident. I know at least one kid went a bit crazy during that time. Talking about a girl no one remembered.

I suppose there's always some common ground to be found. [ Though it meant people needed to actually look for those bits of common ground and she found people rarely wanted to try for that. ]

Unfortunate for that kid. Though perhaps he should have learned to be quite sooner rather than later.

Probably. It didn't end well for him or a lot of people who got wrapped up in that mess. [It hadn't gone well for Jacob either but he rarely dived into detail about it. It just distressed people.]

I was kidnapped and at the same time I started to remember her. It was a little strange and she blames herself. [He shrugs.] I blame the douche who did it and he's dead now so...

[It feels like closer.]

That's about everything though. You wanna catch me up on the last year? Sparknotes version?

Ah, the type to blame themselves for everything, hm? Perhaps she and my brother would actually get along. [ It definitely sound like they would. Then again her brother got along with almost anyone, so maybe it wasn't really saying too much. ]

Were you injured during your kidnapping? [ He seemed fine now if he had been. ]

Lizard people tried to take us out with evil plants.

If we ever get the chance, we should introduce them. [His sister liked meeting people anyway.]

I was, among other things. I lived with my kidnapper for a little over a year or a little less. I don't know. [He'd been brain washed back then and only remembers bits and pieces of the experience. It runs through his memories in flashes, remembering everything in vivid detail when he sleeps.]

Evil plants, huh? That sucks. Hopefully those lizard people don't want that anymore.

Hmm. Perhaps. [ Would she really want him here though? Probably not. She shook her head at the thought and decided it was best to not dwell there for long. Feelings were...confusing. ]

Not as a guest at the presidential room I take it? [ Her eyes narrowed slightly. ] I know what it's like being kidnapped and forced to live with them. [ There was sympathy in her tone and understanding. ]

Your guess there is as good as mine. I would suspect they would do it again if they had motivation to do it once.

No. It sucked. [That is putting the experience lightly but it's too depressing to get into now. Not that it really hurt Jacob to talk about it but he hadn't the pity he saw when he told people even the smallest detail from his time under Amedeaus's care.]

But, this kidnapping isn't so bad. So- [Jacob shrugs.] Luckily I have you to get me up to speed. And I'll keep a look out for any lizard people. [He takes a gulp of his drink.]
