Grey!

He hadn't fully explored everywhere as far as the Grey dorms went. And he'd heard the roof was a good place to look up at the night sky. So taking on the spirit of the Luminary (of sorts) the knight decided that he would climb up onto the roof this night.

When he got up there at first he saw nothing of note. And as his boots hit the gravel he then saw a man who was not facing him. He turned to leave when the colourful animal came trotting towards him. It half resembled a bird and blue eyes curiously blinked at it, having never seen its like before.

When the creature seemed to ask a question, the knight was uncertain as to how to answer it. But then the man spoke a warning. It made him look down, but he did have on his brown leather gloves as he always did. Still, he did not endeavour to touch the animal.

"You warning is indeed timely." And he's not going to touch her.

Nida finally turns to look over his shoulder at the other man. Interesting. His eyes are careful as he takes the man in. A warrior of some sort. Yeah, that was nice. To have more who can fight and defend this place.

"You've got gloves, that could protect you from it, but I understand the reluctance. Julia, be a dear?"

The man twists enough to extend a hand, rubbing his fingers together. The feline hears it and is soon sauntering back toward Nida. She's back on his shoulder in no time at all. And she rubs herself against his neck. He shivers a little at the contact, btu then he's left smiling widely from the very effect he'd noted.

"She helps my meditative focus."

Hendrik took a look at the man with the cat who had interesting side effects and he shook his head at the gloves comment. He wasn't going to even try to see if there was resistance or not. A fool he might be in some ways but testing something just to see when it came to things like effects was a no.

When the cat like creature perched on the man's shoulder, blue eyes blinked and Hendrik clenched his jaw. He didn't want any part of it.

"Then if all is in order here I will head back downstairs. I do not wish to disturb your..focus."

"I didn't say you were disturbing me," Nida chuckles as he rises, easily, without disturbing the feline.

"I'm Nida by the way."

The knight is still suspicious because he's never seen a feline like this before.

However, he would go with the introductions.

"I am Hendrik."

[skyward_eyes]

It's fine to be suspicious. She's a good girl though.

"Nice to meet you. If you want, I can leave the rooftop for you."

The knight looked puzzled. "Leave the rooftop? And why is that?"

Did he offend the man somehow?

"So you have the space for yourself. I'm quite nimble, I can choose another roof."

IT wasn't like he belonged on this one anyway. Or maybe he could go back down to his apartment and just sleep. Julia would have liked that probably.

Hendrik shook his head. "I must apologize for you believing that I would wish you to be elsewhere. In fact it is I who has intruded upon you. So if anyone should be preparing to depart, that would be me."

[skyward_eyes]

"And now we're retreading old ground," he laughed, shaking his head. "No, it's alright. We can both stay."

And he hoped that would comfort the guy.

The tall knight nodded and sighed in relief because he wasn't trying to chase anyone off anywhere, especially with his first day here even if memories teased his mind of being here before.

"Agreed."

Blue eyes then looked at Julia. "That is your pet, correct?"

"My sweet darling," Nida agreed. "She belonged to my sister, and it seems she chose to follow me here."

Maybe she had known Nida had needed her.

Hendrik nodded, missing Obsidian even the horse wasn't something someone could hold in their hands. He had seen a toy horse that resembled his horse and he might go purchase that.

"So your pet followed you into this world?"

Was that a thing?

"She found her way to me, yes," Nida agreed with a smile, reaching up to scratch under her jaw, which earned a musical sort of purring. "She's all I have left of the people I love, except for some damaged jewelry."

Of course he had no idea that, within days, there would be someone new in his life to drive his hope again, to make him long for something more. To give him a new home.

By comparison Hendrik had jewelry. Sometimes it felt as if he had one half of a piece and his childhood companion had the other which was why when Krystalinda held it, it cut him to his soul.

"Then you have a trusted companion by your side. And that is priceless indeed."

Trusted companion? Nida smiled as he looked to Julia. She was his comfort.

"She's all I've got, and I intend to pamper her."

The knight nodded in understanding. He would do the same if he had Obsidian here with him.

"That sounds like a good plan. I am sure in her own way that she will reciprocate in kind."

[skyward_eyes]

"Well, she doesn't leave. And that's all I can ask for."

Because if she left, he would be alone. Even Caelan and Jacob's friendships didn't fill the full void in his heart.

There was a smile on his face and it felt as if a knife had twisted in his heart because there was someone that he knew that might've wished to say the same once upon a time.

"That is indeed invaluable."

Nida considers the other man briefly, thoughtfully. There is much he could say. He is choosing not to of course.

"You can find people like that here I don't doubt. Anyone can."

He wasn't sure that finding companions in such a temporary world was such a good idea. After all, any of them could be ripped away at any given moment. But as he looked at the cat, even short term friendships would help be a comfort.

Hendrik didn't shy away from the others in the Luminary's band even though he knew once their quest was over that everyone would return to their own homes.

So he nodded.

"There is wisdom in your words and I thank you for it."

"If only I knew how to follow the words myself," he says with a nod. He was too much a longer in his own right.

The knight slightly smiled. "That I do believe is a refrain that I have heard from many who give such advice."

That was comforting, different worlds and people still seemed to retain common threads.

Nida doesn’t know if that means he should laugh or wince. He thinks wince, so he laughs instead.

“That’s ominous.”

Hendrik shook his head. "I mean no ill will with my words. The words reminded me of wisdom that I have heard from wise men back home. And in so doing, it is a great comfort that if I can not see them, I can hear others speak as they do."
