By comparison Hendrik had jewelry. Sometimes it felt as if he had one half of a piece and his childhood companion had the other which was why when Krystalinda held it, it cut him to his soul.

"Then you have a trusted companion by your side. And that is priceless indeed."

Trusted companion? Nida smiled as he looked to Julia. She was his comfort.

"She's all I've got, and I intend to pamper her."

The knight nodded in understanding. He would do the same if he had Obsidian here with him.

"That sounds like a good plan. I am sure in her own way that she will reciprocate in kind."

"Well, she doesn't leave. And that's all I can ask for."

Because if she left, he would be alone. Even Caelan and Jacob's friendships didn't fill the full void in his heart.

There was a smile on his face and it felt as if a knife had twisted in his heart because there was someone that he knew that might've wished to say the same once upon a time.

"That is indeed invaluable."

Nida considers the other man briefly, thoughtfully. There is much he could say. He is choosing not to of course.

"You can find people like that here I don't doubt. Anyone can."

He wasn't sure that finding companions in such a temporary world was such a good idea. After all, any of them could be ripped away at any given moment. But as he looked at the cat, even short term friendships would help be a comfort.

Hendrik didn't shy away from the others in the Luminary's band even though he knew once their quest was over that everyone would return to their own homes.

So he nodded.

"There is wisdom in your words and I thank you for it."

"If only I knew how to follow the words myself," he says with a nod. He was too much a longer in his own right.

The knight slightly smiled. "That I do believe is a refrain that I have heard from many who give such advice."

That was comforting, different worlds and people still seemed to retain common threads.

Nida doesn’t know if that means he should laugh or wince. He thinks wince, so he laughs instead.

“That’s ominous.”

Hendrik shook his head. "I mean no ill will with my words. The words reminded me of wisdom that I have heard from wise men back home. And in so doing, it is a great comfort that if I can not see them, I can hear others speak as they do."

Ah.

"Well I have never been accused of being wise before."

The knight smiled. He himself would never hear such words spoken about himself either, but it was nice to hear that it seemed he was someone that recognized the wisdom in the other.

"I believe it is possible that everyone has some form of wisdom. And I thank you for sharing yours."

Again he says something that makes Nida smile. Yeah, he could accept that.

"Clearly you've got a lot to share too.

Hendrik shook his head. Jasper was the wiser of the two. And as far as wisdom he had much for battle and how not to treat one's oldest friend.

"I find that at the moment, I do not. But surely at some point that will change."

"Do you not? You have given me some insight. Surely that counts."

Or so Nida believes.

Hendrik smiled very briefly.

"If I have done so, then I am grateful to have returned the favour."

Returned the favor? Oh he didn't think so actually.

"I hope there is a way I can repay you."

The tall knight paused. He wasn't looking for repayment or anything of the sort so he was a little lost at that. However he smiled. "I am sure that if that is your wish, that will happen at some point."

This place was weird that way.

"I'm rather big on repaying my debts," Nida said. "Whether the person believes they are debts or not."

The man's worth only grew in the knight's eyes with that statement.

"Indeed, repaying a debt at a first opportunity is a noble effort and endeavour. That is common practice for us back home."

For his own knights anyhow.

"That's honorable to hear," Nida answered with a smile. "That's a good way for people to operate if you ask me."

And he wasn't being asked. He got that.

Hendrik nodded. "Is that not how it went in your world, if I may be so bold as to inquire?"

He just wanted to make certain that he wasn't overstepping his bounds here.

"We were a world at war. So no, it wasn't common."

And that was a bit annoying at times.

"How long had you been at war?"
