The February chill was persisting as one tended to expect, and most may find the warmth and comfort of a hot beverage curled up inside under some cozy blankets more appealing than venturing out into the cold and snow… But not all.

Maybe it was the resistance to ice linked to Goemon, but Yusuke had found himself rather comfortable as he strolled through the park on his morning off. The high collar of his winter coat and gloves was enough to combat the cool breeze, and scattered flurries tossed up in the air now. He had nowhere to be, and while he may be tempted to practice forms and train a little later with his katana to keep sharp for whatever chaos this place threw at them next? For now, he was content to enjoy the atmosphere and admire the scenery of the park covered in snow that glistened in the morning sun.

Sometimes, he mused to himself, the most beautiful works of art were those brought about by mother nature herself… Framing a particular scene of a snowy hilltop with trees dusted in white and birds flitting about the branches he smiled to himself as he committed that scene to memory before continuing on.

At one point or another, the phantom thief found himself inspired to try his hand at working with snow after having seen a few snowmen around the city at one point or another. Snow sculptures seemed an interesting challenge, and he does so love a challenge when it comes to creating. So rather than work on his usual traditional art, he could be seen piling and packing snow as he tried his hand at a little snow sculpting. The subject of his piece being a shadow from memory, one of the more jolly ice based ones.

Ah, so he’d been there. It was always nice to hear that Aerith had people vising her shop. “Indeed, those would be my work.” He confirmed with a pleased smile and a nod to confirm.

“She is a lovely woman, quite talented at her craft, and truly a reliable friend.” He agreed with a brighter tone. She was certainly one of the people he’d gotten to know better since arriving. Sure, some of those instances had been small disasters at times, but she had taken it well enough without holding it against him!

"Best woman I've ever known except for my mom," Zack says with the warmest smile.

YEah, he was just a little bit in love with her. Thanks for asking.

Hmm… yes, he’s getting that sense. How wonderful to know someone thinks so highly of and care for Aerith in such a way. Smiling a little, he pauses in his work with a little glance. “Am I correct in presuming that you have more of a history with her than simply meeting her here?”

"We used to date," Zack admits with a nod. He's still not sure where they stand now. It sucks, but eventually he'll figure it out.

Ah, that certainly explained it. He was vaguely curious about that, but given his track record for recognizing actual couples was not the best, it helped to have confirmation. At least that they apparently used to be. “I see, but you aren’t now, but have remained friends, then?” Truth be told, it sounded like Zack still cared quite deeply for Aerith, but perhaps he was misinterpreting.

"I think it's what you'd call 'complicated'," Zack says with a shrug. "We still love each other a lot."

But there's all the weirdness about this. Damn, it's hard.

“Complicated?” He tilted his head slightly, looking up from the project again with a thoughtful expression. If they still loved each other, was that not a simple decision? Or was there more to it than that? “I’m afraid I understand the situation and what about it makes it complicated…? Is it this place or other factors?”

"There is a lot of other factors."

Including everything about who they were. But Zack can't touch on it.

"Guess it's probably not polite to put that on a stranger."

He offered a small nod, accepting that it was a matter of other factors rather than this place. It was hard, though, to not wonder what those particular factors might be. The comment gets a small dip of his head.

“Rude?” He supposed, perhaps it might be, but he hadn’t thought of it being rude until it was brought up. Was it rude to ask as well? Hm… The teen shakes his head a little. “Though I suppose I can also understand perhaps that discussing such complications concerning matters of the heart may be unpleasant for the one dealing with them. So I shall wish you luck in figuring out your situation.” Aerith was a good friend, and this fellow seemed quite nice even if he didn’t know him very well.

"It's not as unpleasant for me. I've talked to people about it before. It's more... It feels like I'm putting weight on someone they didn't ask for."

So yeah, he wants to figure it out, but it's not simple, and other people shouldn't be dragged into it again.

Yusuke listened curiously to the explanation, starting to follow what Zack meant with a small nod in confirmation. “I think I understand then, and it is admirable to not wish to burden others who might not wish to carry the weight…” He tilted his head thoughtfully before continuing. “But sometimes one does need to talk to someone to offer input and put perspective on something you might not have thought of or been willing to see before… It might help to find someone to speak with who would not mind discussing it.”

"That's probably a good point."

But he's lost hte people he trusts for those things, and what is he supposed to do without them? He doesn't even know.'

"I guess I'll have to look for that. It helps to have friends to support you."

“It is, at least from my own experience.” He admitted with a small tilt of his head. He had only just met Zack, and admittedly wasn’t sure if he counted as such. At least enough to be trusted with such personal matters. “Have you no close friends here that you could speak with for such support?” Other than Aerith herself, of course, even Yusuke imagined that wouldn’t work.

"It's complicated," Zack sighs. Because his close friends are a bit too tied up in it.

“It sounds as though much of your situation is quite complicated, really.” Which was unfortunate. Zack seemed like a nice, friendly sort. How sad that he was in such a difficult place…

"Ho boy is it ever," he says with a sigh and his arms crossed over his chest. "Seems like a habit of mine. Which sucks."

“Sometimes it feels as though complicated becomes the pattern of one’s life, which is indeed quite unpleasant.” He admitted with a small shake of his head. “Though I have noted that a place like this does seem to give one ample time and opportunity to figure things out.”

Does it? Zack sighs.

"Only if they stick around. If I stick around."

Which is never guaranteed. Angeal left, hadn't he?

Yusuke did have to admit, at times, this place seemed very fickle over who stayed and who left. “That is true… but perhaps you and they shall be among those of us who stay longer. Though I cannot say I understand how this world decides that, or if it’s something that is set in stone at all.”

Perhaps they will be. But Zack? Man, he's not betting on it. He sighs and shakes his head.

"I'll just have to be as determined as I can I guess."

“Determination is an important thing to have, I should think.” It certainly couldn’t hurt, but he did hope that Zack would find some improvement in his situation. “I know I’m nothing more than a stranger you’ve happened upon today, but should you like, I would be happy to speak again, just so you know.”

"I would be happy to speak. When I'm not working of course. Chocobos can't take care of themselves. Well, they can when they aren't domesticated. But monsters aren't going to hunt themselves."

He does both after all.

That all sounded quite sensible to him, even if most of what kept him busy were things he didn’t speak of… He can relate to having much to do. “Then the next time you have the time and the inclination, I look forward to speaking again.”

"Yeah, that's be nice. When I'm not training with my sword it's fun to hang out with other people to talk."

So he'd definitely come up with something for them to do.

“Wonderful. I shall look forward to it. Though I can understand the need to train and practice, sometimes it seems that spending time with people can be quite beneficial.” And there were such interesting people in this place, there was much he could learn just from ‘hanging out’ with them.
