[ Mono is getting serious now. It’s been months and the kid realizes he probably has made this more complicated than it needed to be, but it’s a little late to change that now. So, everyone gets a clear view (well… not clear, the static is still fizzling by now and again) of him sitting on his bed with a few books scattered around him.

His moth friend was also present, sitting on his head and peering down with what might be curiosity at whatever Mono was doing.

He would have just done this at this historium, but she doesn’t seem to do well with the cold of winter still present outside. ]

I got some problems.

[ The boy says rather plainly, dark eyes peering through the screen at you all rather imploringly. ‘Problems’ is something of an understatement if one were talking about other things, but he wasn’t talking about those things. He was actually talking about less serious things… but in a serious, quiet way. ]

I can’t figure out if any of the stuff I could call my moth friend sound good or not.

[ This is the least serious problem, but he thinks it is, okay? ]

Also, she doesn’t like the cold, so she’s kinda stuck inside… So I can’t take her with me to get more books to try to find a name in. So um… I was wondering if anyone wants to help me figure it out?

Noises, huh? I was not aware that moths made such noises. But it works best if you and she is most delighted by it.

Uh-huh! But not often. Mostly she’s just quiet.

[ Maybe it was because she was just so big, or maybe it had something to do with moths in his world. He might have to learn more about moths someday. ]

Whispy… Hm. I kinda like it. Do you like it?

[ The moth peers down, wings fluttering lightly. ]

Kinda hard to tell, but I don’t think she doesn’t like it?

Yeah, it’s better than what I started with!

[ which was very small and now it had one more option. A better option, the boy thinks. ]

You’re really good at this stuff, huh?

Oh I do not believe that I am particularly good at it. But I do my best to try and help things. And names...

I know so many names.

[monochromatically]

You seem good at it to me. Better than I am, I’ve been thinking for months now!

[ Accept the compliment, Rhy. The kid’s mind cannot be changed.]

How do you know so many names, though?

Ah, the answer there is quite simple. I was an active patron of the arts.

[monochromatically]

[ There were times when some grown ups sounded really fancy to Mono. Right now, Rhy sounded very fancy. ]

… I dunno what that is. What’s a patron of arts?

[unbreakable_king]

[Well of course he sounds fancy. He is fancy.]

It means I support at and those who create it.

[monochromatically]

Oh… [ He kind of gets it, then. He thinks. ] So you help people that make art, and that’s why you got to know so many names?

[unbreakable_king]

Yes, in a way. Though mostly through funding. They did the work.

[monochromatically]

Oh, like you help them with money so they could do the art stuff. That makes sense, seems kinda important here and in other places to be able to do stuff.

[ People needed money to do stuff. He had learned that lesson since arriving all that time ago. ]

Exactly! Now that is the best way to describe me. I either paid to attend, or I would pay them to create.

[monochromatically]

[ That sounded really important to the boy, since no one really created stuff where he was from either. It meant Rhy was helping to make sure people could still do nice stuff like that, too. ]

Do you ever do stuff like that here? Or is it kinda like people pay you to make nice clothes so you’re kinda doing the opposite now?

Here? Ah, no. I just do the tailor work. I am not as... endowed with funds as I was back home. Though I suppose in a way people do pay me for the art I have dedicated myself to.

[monochromatically]

Yeah! You make pretty things people can wear, so I guess it’s your turn for people to help you make your kinda art.

Yes, I suppose it is. Thank you, that makes me feel better about the line of work I chose. Not that I do not love what I do. I love it very much. But appreciation is always nice.

[ He thinks Rhy should feel good about the work he does. He’s really good at it, and it seems like it makes him happy. Mono thinks those are both very important things, and it makes him happy himself to see that kind of thought and feeling put into things. It’s so different from where he’s from. ]

I bet lots of people think so, your clothes ‘n stuff are always really nice.

[He is pleased to hear this actually. To be appreciated is always a relief.]

Sometimes! I get around the city a lot, and people talk about when they get new clothes ‘n stuff. I listen.

[ Because honestly he’s a better listener than talker at the end of the day, and if he hears someone mention names, he knows, then he listens double close! ]

[Rhy is just so proud and warm right now. He missed those sorts of things, and he was joyful for it.]

[monochromatically]

Yup! Do people not tell you stuff like that much?

[ That kinda sucks. Shouldn’t people tell the person who made something if they liked it or not? ]

Many people thank me at the moment and when they walk away with their purchases they do not think to tell me again about the appreciation. It's just... normal. Which makes the initial thank you sound polite.

[monochromatically]

Really? Hm… People should say it more, I think.

[ Sometimes the way people interacted was rather confusing for the boy, and it seemed both honest and important to let people know you still enjoy something or like it. What if people got discouraged after a while of people only being polite and never knowing how good the stuff they did was? ]

Well, I really like the stuff you make. It’s always a lot nicer than stuff I saw before.

[Of course people got discouraged. But often people did not look far beyond themselves.]
