[The knight isn't seen at first because he is attempting to learn to use this communications device and it's unlike anything he's ever dealt with. Fortunately a local helped show him the basics, but getting all of that down into practice isn't going to work well at first.

I had not thought of that. But I can indeed see if perhaps the blacksmith is missing a blade.
