00X - Homemade Fireworks - Open To All
Who; Enis Edrin
blindpuppet & You!
What; Day/Night Beach - Homemade Fireworks
Where; Beach
When; Last week of July
Warnings; pending...
Night Beach; Calm
The wind rolled over the sea and onto the shore as the waves crashed angrily against the sand. Another place, another sudden arrival, but this wasn't as unpleasant as the past locations. It was nothing like the center of Illinois where she'd spent a great deal of her life living in a closed off facility. She was able to see outside but it wasn't like this.
There was something beautiful about the setting, from the taste on her lips to the sweet chilling sensation on the wind. For the first time since her steady transformations she didn't feel overwhelmed. She was simply herself.
Enis stood looking out over the ocean for the entire night and the nights that followed. She didn't move but became a silent shadow that dotted the horizon.
Night Beach; Fireworks
It was any easy enough task for the skill chemist to create the brightly colored bursts of lights she'd learned about years before. Enis hadn't ever seen fireworks herself but it was any easy enough compound. Aluminum shavings and charcoal were easy to find and while potassium chlorate is a human made chemical, she was able to find a replacement at the apothecary. Additionally, she found a few various substances while wandering around the forest that burned specific colors.
It took her weeks to come up with the right formula but as she walked out onto the beach she decided that it was worth it.
The box was filled will all sorts of fireworks, some common place while others were magically enhanced to burst into specific shapes. Enis began by placing a single rocket down and then lighting it with a match. The firework whistled through the air before bursting into a bright pink shower of sparks above the beach.
It was loud, bright and beautiful.
Day/Night Beach; Sleepy
Enis liked the beach and while it wasn't practical to visit during the day she could be spotted along the coast line beneath a tree or umbrella that would protect her from the harsh touch of the sunlight. She was always sleepy during the day but the computer chip in her head kept her awake.
She looked like she was curled up and napping but she was listening and noting those who were around her.
If you want to bother her she'll be annoyed but she won't shoo anyone away.

Night Beach
He'd found and cleaned a light jacket at the chocobo ranch which ended up being something of a trench coat for him but he needed it. So that was folded carefully over an arm as he moved towards the water.
Something alerted him that he wasn't alone and turned to see Enis not far away. It took a moment of thought, but he started making his way up to see her and see if she wanted to share in the snacks and drinks.
Couldn't hurt, right?
Night Beach; Fireworks
Was that the secret? You just had to find a way to separate yourself from who you were back there? She wasn't certain, but it was thoughts like these that were keeping her up during the day. The lack of sleep was only making her more moody and for a time she'd just avoided the new beach. It was another thing that people were treating like some good addition, some present to be excited about. Or at least that was how the locals acted. Ivy on the other hand was still suspicious. So many things lately had been oddly positive that she found herself even more on edge waiting for the shoe to drop.
Curiosity got the best of her today though. Like most Inderlanders she slept during the day. Or at least she tried to. It'd been completely unsuccessful today and so she'd thrown on a red dress and grabbed a large hat and headed out to the beach. The sun was starting to set and her hope would be that she'd avoid running into anyone. The last thing she wanted was to find a crowd of people while she was wearing clothes that actually showed the strange scars on her neck and the large silver cross she always wore. Who came to the beach at night anyway?
Evidently there was someone here. The fireworks seemed to start just as the night sky fully took over. A part of her thought about just leaving, but she'd come all this way. Might as well see who was putting on the show. She approached Enis' location with footsteps that made no sound at all, only speaking after the pink shower had finished.
"I didn't know they sold fireworks here."
Fireworks - because he wishes to see them without them getting rained out ;A;
Which, given the last fireworks Yusuke had been to, had been rained out, became a source of eager curiosity on the teen’s part. What was a summer vacation without fireworks, after all? Sad enough that he hadn’t happened upon a festival occurring or anything, often a source of inspiration, let alone missing that! So when she had the experiment ready to test, and she had invited him to meet up… How could he have said no?
He was running a little behind, though, and just picking up the pace as he picked his way over the sand towards where she was set up as she fired off the first couple. “My word, what a beautiful display! You really made them yourself?” He commented as he neared, eyes still turned skyward with an impressed tone.
Night; Beach; Calm
It was how he noticed the figure in the distance. It took him a moment to recognize her, brief as their first interaction had been, and he wondered if he should approach, apologize for startling her. It didn't take long to deliberate. He would approach calmly, but not stealthily, hands raised slightly in surrender.
"It is a calm night, is it not? Please, don't fire."
Night Beach
"It's a beautiful night." She whispered the words softly and yet loud enough to be heard over the crashing waves.
If she had known that the beach was this peaceful she would have visited a long time ago. Perhaps she might have even visited prior to arriving in this world. As it was, this was the first time she'd been able to experience what it was like to stand on a beach.
"Can I help you with something?"
Night Beach; Fireworks
"They don't." She lifted another firework and lit the wick with a match before turning to look at Ivy.
"I made these."
Fireworks - <3
Her head turned towards Yusuke as the firework exploded above and behind her, alighting the sky. It was beautiful but Enis had created enough fireworks that she didn't mind looking at Yusuke instead.
It was interesting seeing her work through his eyes; the joy on his face. It wasn't an expression she was used to seeing. "Yeah. I studied Chemistry & Computers. It's one of the few things I am good at." She created music as a hobby but Enis didn't think that it was a skill that she was talented at. It was merely a form of communication between her and the unfamiliar emotions that felt trapped in her chest.
Night; Beach; Calm
It had been overwhelming but things were easier now. Her senses had remained heightened but it no longer left her gasping in pain.
"I won't." Her voice was smooth and soft, calm despite the obvious tension in her shoulders. "I can't apologize for that-" It'd be a lie if she did. "-but that time has passed and I'm not trying to hide." Which meant, in a roundabout way, that Drizzt was welcome to join her.
no subject
That said, he was sure that she had other talents than that. Enis had given him the impression of someone quite strong and capable, after all, especially considering her situation.
no subject
Her questions startled him but he smiled at her. "Not as long as you don't mind some quiet company." He then gestured towards the water. "The ocean isn't something I got around to seeing much."
no subject
"That's impressive. I have a friend back home that's always tinkering around with making things. How'd you learn how to make them?"
Night; Beach; Calm
Drizzt was no fool. He'd known when he'd fallen into her sanctuary he'd been rising an attack. She'd reminded him of a wounded animal, all savagery and defense, and he'd deserved her weapon being drawn upon him. He'd never fault her for that, though he did take a less cautious step nearer at the unspoken invitation. He'd been curious about the woman and that was no less true now.
"Perhaps we shall try again." He inclined his head in greeting, white hair falling into his violet eyes. "I am Drizzt Do'Urden."
Night; Beach; Calm
"That would be best." It wasn't a smile but her features relaxed and her posture was more open than it had been before. "I'm Enis Edrin." They both had alliteration going for them... so they at least had something in common.
"Starting over is fine but- I feel the need to ask- do you usually walk around on roofs?" It is a surprisingly common hobby of those who are brought here. So much so that Enis has stopped traveling from roof to roof because she often ran into others.

"This is the first time I've seen it." She grew up in a testing facility and since she'd been pronounced legally dead, she couldn't leave. The laptop she'd been given as a child was her only window into the outside world and pictures didn't compare to the real thing.
"I wish I could stay out here forever." If only the sun wouldn't rise.
no subject
"I don't think I'm good at making things that don't already exist. This is just... something that's already been figured out." All she did was swap out compounds and make sure nothing would blow up.
no subject
"Maybe you can paint something like it." She found his skills impressive and given her stoic attitude, she was envious of the way that Yusuke could express himself.
"Do you want to light one?"
no subject
He closed his eyes for a moment at the suggestion, pulling the recent mental image in to view. “I very well may have to, for all that they would be a vague imitation formed up of what impression from them lasts in my mind.” He smiled lightly. It would be a challenge… One he was keen to try, something abstract with bright colours contrasting the darkness, perhaps.
The offer, though, gets a small start of surprise. “Really? May I? If you don’t think I could mess them up at all, I should enjoy that quite a bit!”
no subject
His eyes looked out at the water and then back to her as she mentioned never seeing the water. He himself had only seen it when he had to be flown above it, but he never quite found the time or reason to go to Costa del Sol. That costed gil he didn't have, as he was sending what he could back home to his mother. The other was carefully counted for as far as living went although he did have a very few luxury items like a nice stereo system.
Letting out a sigh, the former First closed his eyes for a moment. "Have to sleep some time."
Night; Beach; Calm
He smiled at her questions, nodding his head. "In my own reality, I am not often welcomed within city walls. I do my best to remain out of sight when necessity brings me to that end. Here, I find them to be the best view points, though I prefer the out of doors to the confines of rooftops."
no subject
Yusuke was unlike anyone she'd ever met. He was unique, awkward but earnest and honest. She'd never encountered anyone like him and she prayed to whatever deity held power here that he'd remain like this for the rest of his life.
He was young; changing day by day. It could be seen in his art and was natural but even so, hopefully those base character traits remained.
She shook her head again and reached over to another firework. "I don't hate the way you think." Which was her way of saying she liked it.
Enis gently dug the stand of the firework into the sand and gestured for Yusuke to join her. "Here. It's easy but try to light it as close to the end of the wick as you can. It'll burn slowly so you'll have time to back away if you're worried." She'll remain a few feet away just in case something goes wrong to step in. Yusuke doesn't know the full extent of Enis's abilities but she'd protect him.
[ooc: feel free to describe the firework boom as well if you want.]
no subject
Enis turned and stared at the wide shoulders leaning against the thick trunked tree bending out over the sand. "What did you just say?" Perhaps it was a normal comment but his words felt heavy. It was as if he was privy to her secrets... even though Enis logically knew it was probably an accident. This was only the second time they had met and she wouldn't describe their first meeting as intimate.
Was this all really just luck?
... bad luck...
Enis closed her eyes and focused on breathing. "Never mind. Sorry. I just-" Should she tell him? Her reaction was probably strange. She looked away from him and back towards the ocean. "I can't sleep." If it was another situation she might have left without saying a word but not this time.
Perhaps this is what a dream felt like?
Night; Beach; Calm
"Oh." Enis pulled the gun from its hidden location beneath her jacket and ejected the ammunition before holding it out to Drizzt to inspect. Normally, she wouldn't do this but it was empty and with her new changes... Well, the gun didn't offer her only protection nowadays.
"It's a common weapon where I'm from. A spark causes a reaction in the chamber of the gun and it fires the metal bullet that hit you while ejecting the casing." She had limited bullets but would be able to make more given enough time and testing.
no subject
Enis' reaction was worrisome but he wondered at her words. "You can't sleep?"
How was that possible? She was a human, and even Soldier had their limits.
no subject
But her instructions get his undivided attention as he crouched in the sand next to where she was setting up the firework. It seemed straightforward enough, and safe as long as he did exactly as she told him. “I see. That does seem fairly simple.” He responded with a small tilt of his head, smiling a little as he watched her stand off to the side.
He did carefully light the firework, making sure to catch it at the very end of the wick to ensure it didn’t set itself off before he had a chance to back up himself. Which he did once it was lit. Moving to stand back next to Enis as she seemed to know the reasonable distance to stand from something that was set to go off, and once it had? Yusuke’s eyes widened and a certain awe crossed his face again as the sky lit up with blues, yellows and brilliant silver-whites. It reminded him of the starry night painting, just more loud and flashy as the colours popped against the night sky as its backdrop.
“That was amazing, Enis!” Yusuke finally exclaimed with an impressed tone, still not quite tearing his eyes away. “Thank you for the opportunity. That was most exciting.” He added with a gesture at the sky, finally turning back to her.
Night; Beach; Calm
"When did warfare become so impersonal?"
Night; Beach; Calm
Enis lifted her shoulders in a shrug as she slipped the gun back into the holster beneath her dark jacket. "I made this. So I can't say it doesn't feel personal but at the same time..." Her voice trailed off briefly as she watched a nearby wave crash against the shore. "It's easier to kill if it isn't personal." Contrary to her stoic appearance, Enis sounded sad when talking about killing people. It was a necessary task, not something she enjoyed.
"What would you rather use?"
no subject
There were only a few more fireworks left and while the night was young, Enis was ready to be freed from the fireworks that she'd creature. "Here. Let's make what's left into a grand finale." Enis knelt into the sand and began to carefully twist and tie the wicks together. They'd all go off at different times with various fireworks going off at the same time. She took the longest wick and placed it against the sand to light.
"Ready?" Enis looked back at Yusuke to get a nod of affirmation before lighting the group of fireworks.
It was only ten fireworks but it was a consecutive barrage of light and sound bursting colorfully against the dark sky. Lights upon lights, as shapes overlap into new fleeting creations. Throughout the entire show Enis wasn't watching the fireworks but Yusuke. She wished she could see the world with so much wonder.
no subject
Enis exhaled a long tired breath, letting the gentle sounds of the ocean calm her mind.
"And I can protect myself." His worry was sweet but unnecessary. "I'm not... normal." She really didn't want to say that she wasn't human. Not because it wasn't true but because she'd never vocalized the fact and often chose to not believe that her humanity is completely gone.
no subject
That last bit sounded something like a dismissal and the former First Class took it as such but still there was the not normal part. "I'm not really sure anyone here is normal, if you don't mind my saying so."
Still, he debated on whether or not to just go as it seemed she wanted him to.
no subject
"I don't mind." Her lips quirked into a tiny smile. "No one here is normal. Ah... I might know one person but that's not enough, is it?"
She turned to look at Angeal with that same tiny smile but her bright blue eyes looked wistful and lost. "It's good isn't it? Because someone here might finally understand."
no subject
He wasn't sure where she was going with this, but if she wanted to talk, he was here for it. She seemed alone and while that was okay, she seemed to use it as armor.
"You never know until you try." That was really all the advice he could give, not knowing the situation and of course he wasn't going to try to come off as an all knowing know it all.
no subject
At her suggestion, though, he turned rather quickly with a curious expression. “A grand finale, oh I rather like the sound of that! Something marvelous and loud to end the evening!” He responded with a little flourish as he followed to watch her join the wicks together to ensure they’d all go off at once. He at least moved back once she was finished, keeping a safe distance from them while she prepared to light the set. “Ready!” He responded to her question with a firm nod and a grin, eager to see what kind of flashy sight the final ten would be to behold.
And then they were firing off in the sky, colours blooming and sparkling above them with loud bangs and sizzling flashes. It really was impressive, even if it was ‘only ten,’ to Enis. It was ten very beautiful, colourful sights for the teen to watch in the sky. “A brilliant spectacle, indeed!” He commented, throwing his arms wide, before holding up his hands to frame part of the sky as he tried to mentally note the details himself to perhaps actually try to capture the sight on canvas one day. “Thank you, Enis, for sharing such a wonderful display with me! I’m terribly impressed. I never expected to see something like this here.”
Night; Beach; Calm
He would not become as his people were.
"I am skilled in the use of many weapons, but I prefer the scimitar."
no subject
"Adapting is still a talent."
no subject
It was interesting and Enis found that she liked learning something new.
"Is adapting difficult?" For Enis, it was adapt or die and she was too stubborn to die. "Sometimes it feels like we don't have a choice." She glanced back at Ivy and while she wore her usual cool mask her expression had softened. "Don't you think so?"
There was something about the beach that made it easier to talk. The waves were calming and the sounds sweetly curled around her like a thick warm blanket.
Night; Beach; Calm
"I try to only hunt monsters." The words that remained unsaid, 'but even then it wasn't easy.'
Her brows furrowed and she turned to meet his gaze. "A scimitar?" That surprised her. "I've used a blade but I can't say I've seen anyone use a scimitar. Would you show me?"
no subject
As the final light faded her expression softened and the night darkened. "Yusuke?" Her voice was soft but contain its usual cool tone. "When is your birthday?" It was a strange question but Enis had a reason for asking. "Perhaps, I can do this again for you then." It wasn't like she ever gave people birthday gifts, in fact, this would be a first for her but Yusuke had earned that much from her... hadn't he?
Was this what friends did? She'd have to ask Llewellyn but without specific names.
no subject
It all left her feeling incredibly empty.
She feared that she might one day become the monster that her father sought to create. Enis inhaled and exhaled, her vibrant blue eyes cast out to the ocean as she spoke. "It's hard for me to understand people. Normal people." She nearly smiled at the irony of the word. "I was raised in a testing facility without parents or love." Nevermind that her father was in charge of the facility, he was only her father by blood and nothing more.
"But... I want to understand..."
no subject
That aside, a question came to his own mind. “When is your birthday?” He should know that much, should he not? If she was thinking of doing something for his birthday, then it seemed only right to keep track of hers as well.
no subject
Still, her words tugged at his heart even if Angeal made sure that he didn't move.
"Get to know people and interact with them. I had a friend back home just like you. It took my friend and I some time but he came around."
Of course they both left him and that was their error but Angeal wasn't going into that.
