Reality is a Curious Thing

Who; Drizzt Do'Urden ([personal profile] usestwohands) and you!
What; Arrival and getting acquainted with a new world
Where; Around the city and its environs
When; Late January - Mid Feb
Warnings; None as of yet; Will Update as Necessary

arrival; fountain plaza
Light and chill assailed his senses quickly in equal measure. His sensitive lavender eyes reacted swiftly to the sudden brightness, temporarily blinding him and sparking a piercing headache in quick succession. Bleary-eyed, he pulled the deep cowl of his cloak over his head of silver hair as quickly as he was able, tense as the gnome approached him, but taking the satchel he was offered without much complaint. He listened as his eyes adjusted slowly, the headache not abating, but at least images becoming more clear to his overwhelmed eyes. Explanations sunk in as he cast his eyes around, losing track of the gnome as he wandered off after his exposition in the light.

Ah, so that was why the light was so overpowering in this new place. "Snow." One mystery solved, the Drow peered down at the sack in his hand given to him by the curious gnome, blinking for a moment before a wave of anxiety passed through his mind and he patted at the inner pocket of his cloak until his thinly gloved fingers found the carved onyx figurine there and his stance visibly relaxed. A new world it would be, then, but his friend had come with him. The anxiety didn't completely wain, nervous as he was for the fate of his friends in their world, but they were beyond his aid for now, at least until he found a sorcerer he could trust. Until then, it would be best to understand this new place in which he'd arrived.

He would go to this building of blue and await the setting of the sun. His destination in mind, he squinted from beneath the hood of his cloak for a moment before he found the building in question and set off across the snow-covered plaza to seek the relative shade offered by the building's awning. Passerby may note his soft leather boots made little sound in the snow, or that twin swords hung from his hips, just visible under his heavy green cloak, or hear the slight whisper of chainmail as he moved.

blue building rooftop; evening
He found his room without much difficulty and waiting within without rest for the sun outside to set. It was obvious enough from the windows of his apartment, a place he would find difficult to find his own, he was certain. He made his way to the roof first as the sun headed toward the horizon, anxious to get a look at this sprawling city with eyes not overwhelmed by the sunlight, but he was surprised to find what the door to the roof opened up to: a rooftop garden, in the throws of winter, and across the rooftop, a glass structure warm enough within to resist the formation of frost upon its exterior surface.

He approached the small building cautiously, not drawing a scimitar, but muscled tense in preparation of fleeing should the need arise. He found the door unlocked and eased the latch, a slight smile tugging at his lips when he saw what was within, and at the warm air within. It preserve the temperature, he moved in with haste, closing the door behind him.

"A greenhouse." He wondered if the other buildings around the plaza had something similar. He explored the narrow walkways slowing, appreciating the collection, though also recognizing by gauging the plant growth it was a relatively new installation. Ambitious and useful, as there were flowering plants and those used for food among the collection. It was a peaceful place, away from the city sounds without, as well. What a delightful discovery. He'd be interested in meeting its builder.

network; audio
[There are a few seconds of silence before he speaks. He'd decided using this device he'd been gifted to reach out to the others here was in his best interest, that unification was better than segregation, and it would be best to know how they react to newcomers now rather than in the midst of a crisis. In his experience, people were mistrusting of outsiders, especially those who looked different to themselves, but now that it had come to it, he found himself oddly shy.

One could never know how others would react until they leaped, of course, and so after a pause, he began.

Greetings. I am Drizzt Do'Urden, and I have recently arrived. I trust I am not the only one who has received this curious gift. I know we are all far from our homes, and the task that has been placed upon us is great, if the gnome, Raimon, is to be believed.

I welcome other perspectives, of course. I have little knowledge of this place, and I wager the adjustment is no easy feat for any of us. Until then, be well.

(OOC: If you'd like to meet up with Drizzt anywhere, feel free to set up a prompt! He'll be exploring extensively any place that exists, so you can run into him anywhere! If you'd like me to set up something specific, you can PM me, reach out on plurk at [plurk.com profile] vikael or on discord at vikael#0221)

Yes, guerilla warfare was more of a Skrull thing.

"I have not learned. I buy the food I need, already cooked."

"Because it was not something I had a reason for before, and I'm learning something new instead. I am learning plants and blacksmithing."

And for her that was more than enough.

Yes, that might not be a bad way to think about it. Mostly because Lauri had so little experience with the world and how to work with people. Even after a touch more than a year she was learning.

"I suppose it will depend on what you like. There is a shop for potions, and they will pay for people who collect materials for them. And there are hunters, who go into the forest to fetch things. There is a help board, where the people and the guard captain posts requests too. Or you can learn a skill. I have liked learning. Master Gili, she teaches me so much."

IT was amusing to watch her in the smithy, though. Lauri was so massive, topping six and a half feet, and Gili was, well, she was a bonafide dwarf. They didn't seem to work well together.

"I am glad that you should," she answered with a nod. "And I hope they will work with you. People here have been very kind to me."

She wondered if people might even assume they are related species. His skin was dark, yes, but with a faint blue undertone to her eyes. And his pale hair was like hers. If only he wasn't so small. And his ears so... strange.

"Mine do as well," she admitted. "Here I am free of that."

IT is nice not to be seen instantly as a threat. Even if she could crush skulls with her hands. Not that she would. She likes protecting more than anything else.

Oh! It makes her so happy to hear that. She beams at him.

"Kindness is something my people need more of. I try and live with that."

Lauri-Ell nodded.

"Good day to you then. I shall have to see to my tending of the flowers now. May your explorations be nice."
