Light and chill assailed his senses quickly in equal measure. His sensitive lavender eyes reacted swiftly to the sudden brightness, temporarily blinding him and sparking a piercing headache in quick succession. Bleary-eyed, he pulled the deep cowl of his cloak over his head of silver hair as quickly as he was able, tense as the gnome approached him, but taking the satchel he was offered without much complaint. He listened as his eyes adjusted slowly, the headache not abating, but at least images becoming more clear to his overwhelmed eyes. Explanations sunk in as he cast his eyes around, losing track of the gnome as he wandered off after his exposition in the light.
Ah, so that was why the light was so overpowering in this new place. "Snow." One mystery solved, the Drow peered down at the sack in his hand given to him by the curious gnome, blinking for a moment before a wave of anxiety passed through his mind and he patted at the inner pocket of his cloak until his thinly gloved fingers found the carved onyx figurine there and his stance visibly relaxed. A new world it would be, then, but his friend had come with him. The anxiety didn't completely wain, nervous as he was for the fate of his friends in their world, but they were beyond his aid for now, at least until he found a sorcerer he could trust. Until then, it would be best to understand this new place in which he'd arrived.
He would go to this building of blue and await the setting of the sun. His destination in mind, he squinted from beneath the hood of his cloak for a moment before he found the building in question and set off across the snow-covered plaza to seek the relative shade offered by the building's awning. Passerby may note his soft leather boots made little sound in the snow, or that twin swords hung from his hips, just visible under his heavy green cloak, or hear the slight whisper of chainmail as he moved.
blue building rooftop; evening
He found his room without much difficulty and waiting within without rest for the sun outside to set. It was obvious enough from the windows of his apartment, a place he would find difficult to find his own, he was certain. He made his way to the roof first as the sun headed toward the horizon, anxious to get a look at this sprawling city with eyes not overwhelmed by the sunlight, but he was surprised to find what the door to the roof opened up to: a rooftop garden, in the throws of winter, and across the rooftop, a glass structure warm enough within to resist the formation of frost upon its exterior surface.
He approached the small building cautiously, not drawing a scimitar, but muscled tense in preparation of fleeing should the need arise. He found the door unlocked and eased the latch, a slight smile tugging at his lips when he saw what was within, and at the warm air within. It preserve the temperature, he moved in with haste, closing the door behind him.
"A greenhouse." He wondered if the other buildings around the plaza had something similar. He explored the narrow walkways slowing, appreciating the collection, though also recognizing by gauging the plant growth it was a relatively new installation. Ambitious and useful, as there were flowering plants and those used for food among the collection. It was a peaceful place, away from the city sounds without, as well. What a delightful discovery. He'd be interested in meeting its builder.

[There are a few seconds of silence before he speaks. He'd decided using this device he'd been gifted to reach out to the others here was in his best interest, that unification was better than segregation, and it would be best to know how they react to newcomers now rather than in the midst of a crisis. In his experience, people were mistrusting of outsiders, especially those who looked different to themselves, but now that it had come to it, he found himself oddly shy.
One could never know how others would react until they leaped, of course, and so after a pause, he began.]
Greetings. I am Drizzt Do'Urden, and I have recently arrived. I trust I am not the only one who has received this curious gift. I know we are all far from our homes, and the task that has been placed upon us is great, if the gnome, Raimon, is to be believed.
I welcome other perspectives, of course. I have little knowledge of this place, and I wager the adjustment is no easy feat for any of us. Until then, be well.

Blue Rooftop
Instead there was a stranger, skin darker than even the darkest of blue-skinned Kree, with hair white enough for a Kree, and ears almost like those of a Skrull. He was an interesting thing to see, and Lauri paused inside the door to look at him.
"I ask you not harvest food from this place. We give it to locals in need."
no subject
He turned at her voice, chin raised, though his large lavender eyes went wide at the sight of her. A frost giant? No. She was far too small for a frost giant, and far better spoken. Some manner of person he'd never encountered, then.
"I am no thief, and I apologize for my transgression. I did not force the lock." He could have, but it had been open. He inclined his head in greeting, pushing back the deep hood of his cloak to better introduce himself.
"I am Drizzt Do'Urden, recently arrived in this place."
no subject
She considered him, intrigued by the greater view she had seen of him.
"You are a fellow outsider then."
no subject
"I am, though it is a role I know well. I take it this occurrence is common?"
no subject
"Not often, but we tend to be the only ones to access these buildings. They are a residence for us outsiders to this world, save for Misters Scientia. They moved after they wed."
no subject
"Others were wed here?" The idea itself seemed troubling. "How long have you all been trapped here?"

arrival; fountain plaza
Inesa was wearing a baby pink coat over the white dress that she'd arrived in, with her hair tied up in a pair of loose braids. She looked younger than her age, sweet and curious as she stared up at the hooded figure before her.
"You look uncomfortable. Could I perhaps help?" She didn't know that he had an aversion to the sun or that he was trying to avoid it but the way he ducked his head made it appear as if there might be a physical ailment bothering him. Inesa was naturally curious and sometimes assumed without thinking of the possible insult she could be causing.
arrival; fountain plaza
"If you are able to quicken the sun's setting, yes. Otherwise, only time will serve, but you have my thanks." Once he was within the shadows of the covered entryway of the building he was able to stand straighter and pulled back the hood of his cloak. The light was still intense and slightly dizzying, but he could handle it. "I am Drizzt Do'Urden. Well met."
arrival; fountain plaza
"There is something else that I might be able to do. If it is okay?" She held out her hand to show him the glimmer of silver magic light in her palm. "I could ease any discomfort or if your head hurts."
arrival; fountain plaza
His lavender eyes followed the motion of her hand, his muscles taut, ready for action, and narrowed slightly at the light, but strangely, it wasn't painful. After a moment, though, he shook his head.
"You are most kind, but I don't mind the pain."

"Please excuse me. I should introduce myself first. My name is Inesa. It is a pleasure to meet you Drizzt or do you prefer I call you Do'Urden?"

I totally meant to tag this last night for January! [Audio]
[Somehow he feels left out now. But onto business.]
If you've just arrived, that should mean you have your apartment all set up. My name is Fayt, it's nice to meet you..sort of.
[Audio]
[And his tone was amicable, not chiding.]
So I was shown. It's very...convenient. [And suspicious.] Well met, Fayt. [There's a slight chuckle.] It is strange, communicating in this manner. It isn't near as common in my own plane, a practice reserved for mages and other magical practitioners, and it usually comes at a cost.
[Audio]
Guess I'll just have to try a little harder next time.
[But he looked up at the other man when he mentioned mages and other magical practitioners. He's played those kinds of games where there were magic users, like Sophia did when they had played on Hyda Four in the hotel. But then it clicked in that this was the type of place the man was saying he was from.]
What kind of cost?
[Fayt asked this as his mind was grappling with the last bit.]
[Audio]
[He looks thoughtful for a moment.]
Well, I have an only cursory knowledge of magic, but it depends on the origin. Blood, at times, or some other sacrifice. Pain, other times. [He shrugs his shoulders slightly.] Prices are subjective, really.
[Audio]
Ya, you're right.
[However, nothing could've prepared him for the other part. He remembered giving Albel a tome to learn Symbology, but it had nothing to do with a sacrifice..unless battles counted.]
That's how you learn magic in your world?

[There may have been the slightest hint of remorse in his voice. He missed that thick-headed dwarf already, and his friends numbered very few.]
And what am I to call you?
no subject
Illyana. Though I have gone by other names.
no subject
[He paused for a moment, thoughtfully.]
And is Illyana the name you prefer, or would you rather I use one of these other names?
no subject
It's the only one you know.
