[There is a tremble of concern in Nida's voice, like he isn't certain how to ask what needs asked. And, along with it, the noise of a chocobo, warking at him]

I could use a little help.

[A louder wark this time, followed by an undignified yelp.]

Make that a lot of help. Give me back my boot you plague-ridden-

[The sound of ruffling feathers and another bird-noise.]

Please, just... someone has to be good with these horrid birds. I'm begging for a rescue here.

Oh, I don't have any vendettas right now.

[But he's considering one given her behavior.]

Animals have no problem with me. I keep pets. Chocobos, though, are evil.

Animals don't have the capability to be evil. That's unique to humans.

Strange that they've seemed fine to me and everyone else in the city. Seems like the locals love them.

Clearly someone isn't from a world with Wendigos. Or Toramas. Or any number of other creatures like them. Must be nice, living in a sheltered world like that.

In my world Wendigos are supernatural creatures based on myths involving human cannibalisms. [ She pauses for a second. ] I'm pretty familiar with animals though and they're not evil. We react on instincts not something pre-meditated.

[Uh, that's weird to say.]

Wendigos definitely eat people, and lived in the forests I grew up in.

[Wait. We? Nida... needs to pause.]

You're not human.

Sounds similar to the myth. Can't really say if they're real in my world or not.

[ She pauses herself and then chuckles. ]

Nope. Not at all.

Some worlds have dragons. Some worlds have bears.

[A lesson he had learned from someone. Two worlds back. Still, he considers her comment and shrugs it off. There is still warking noises in the background, but clearly he's not expecting rescue right now.]

Vampire perhaps? I've met a few.

I bet some even have both. [ Sarcasm is her middle name. ]

So have I. [ The ones in her world hadn't been like the myths though, but here, well, here she'd found one straight out of some fantasy. ] But nah, I'm a new mutant.

[That group got the least marks on the forge wall two worlds ago. But the word she says gives Nida pause. A lot of it.]

A mutant. Like a human, but born with powers.

Not quite, but close enough I guess. Something you've heard of before?

[Oh. Nida is just silent for a while, thinking.]

Yes. There... were two of them, in the last two worlds I was in. They were friends and...

Well, I suppose it doesn't matter as they aren't here. But the term has come up before.

What were their names? [ There's a bit of hope in her tone that maybe she'd recognize one, but she knows it's a long shot. ]

I don't know. I don't... I came to his place with only the most general shapes of my memories intact.

[There is more pain in his voice now than there was annoyance earlier.]

[ Her tone softens a bit and she sounds slightly sympathetic. ] It's nice to meet someone that knows the term at least.

I was almost engaged to a mutant. All I remember was that his eyes were like stars.

Romantic. [ All she can assume is that he doesn't quite mean that literally. ] I'm sorry. I know what it's like to lose someone you love.

Romantic? I guess. But I was being literal. It had something to do with his powers.
