001 🔖 Crystal Broadcast ~ The Gullwings Reborn

[whereishe]

[The voice that calls through the crystal is happy and energetic and... maybe a little too loud at first. These aren't like Shinra's commsphere's and she's still getting used to it.]

Yuna here!

I wanted to introduce myself but I also wanted to announce the formation of "Your friendly neighborhood gullwings!"

We're here for any odd jobs you have. We'll be protecting the city and exploring beyond the walls. I hope to bring back information and learn a little bit about this place and maybe why we were brought here. Anyone is welcome to join the Gullwings or these adventures. It might be dangerous so make sure you have a way to protect yourself if you want to go out there with me.

If I find anything I thought I'd bring it to the Hysterium? Is that what it's called? [Her voice gets softer and it doesn't sound like she's talking to the crystal.

After a pause, her voice gets louder again.]

Anyway. I'm really excited to meet you all. I can't wait to meet you.

I do not think you need to shout for the crystal to pick up your voice. Unless that's just how you always speak. [ There's a vague hint of amusement in Illyana's voice. What a strange thing for someone to be so enthusiastic about being kidnapped and having another world's problems dropped on their shoulders. This young woman sounded quite a lot like someone Illyana knew a bit too well. There's a brief pause and then she asks a question: ]

Who exactly is the we to your team?

[whereishe]

I didn't mean to shout. I wasn't sure how loudly I should speak. This isn't like the comm-sphere's.

[She's still getting used to it.]

Right now it's just me but there were a few of us back home. We're a group of Sphere Hunters, who help out from time to time.

[soulsword]

It should be assumed something new is different. [ Her tone is neutral with little indication if she means the statement as rudely as it may come off. ]

Just you is not much of a team then, is it? Not yet. What do you think you would help with here?

[whereishe]

Not yet but it will be.

[Her voice lightens.]

We'll do whatever we can. I have some ideas now, everything I had first said but I think it'll expand over time. I won't know until we start looking.

[soulsword]

You're very confident in that. Do you think you will really get that many people interested?

[whereishe]

It's okay if I don't.

Even if it's just me, I know I can do something to help.

[soulsword]

Do you know that? Curious. [ She pauses. ] I had a team back home that tried to help our people.

[whereishe]

Of course! I just need to keep trying.

[It's just how Yuna is and her confidence is unshakable.]

[soulsword]

You remind me of someone. [ Her tone leaves it to question whether or not that's a good thing. ]

[whereishe]

I do?

[She sounds surprised.]

Who is that?

[soulsword]

[ There's silence before she answers. Perhaps saying that wasn't the best idea. There were still some aspects of the situation that made it somewhat of a sore subject for Illyana. ] Pixie. A young mutant with a very... positive outlook.

[whereishe]

I see.

[Yuna hears the pause and thinks back to when she was a child. What she believed and what changed.]

I don't know about that. That is, no one can have a positive outlook all the time but I was ready to give my life for Spira and it's people. The time I have now, I never expected it to go like this, and I am happy for anything that I can do.

[It's better than being dead.]

[soulsword]

Eventually positive outlooks become darkened by...reality. [ Yes. Reality. And definitely not someone taking part of your soul. ]

Why were you going to have to give your life for your home?

[whereishe]

You can say that but I think it's a choice.

I will not let anyone or anything decide how I feel for me.

[Her voice steadies and grows more serious.]

Because we thought that it was the only way to defeat Sin. But after less than a decade, Sin would return and another summoner would repeat the process. My father was the High Summoner before me. He obtained the final Aeon, defeated sin and then the final Aeon killed him.

[soulsword]

How very...determined of you. [ Her voice sounds momentarily unsure and then she just chooses to move on from that topic. ]

That sounds like [ the most idiotic solution to a problem she's ever heard. But even Illyana has more tact than that ] an extremely ineffective strategy. How do you consider a defeat if they simply come back? That would be banishment.

[whereishe]

Well, it seemed complicated at the time but we found a way to defeat Sin for good.

[So now its fine.]

[soulsword]

Everything worked out then. I suppose you could say I had something similar going on back in my home.

[whereishe]

Yeah.

Did you win or are things still a bit complicated in your home?

[soulsword]

Hm. [ What a complicated question. ] I would say I won. The methods I used were considered questionable by some, however.

[whereishe]

I understand.

[Yuna sighs.]

I've gotten tired of battles where we have to lose in order to win.

[soulsword]

I would not say I had to lose to win. Just that some may think I went too far in order to ensure my victory.

[whereishe]

I see.

I can understand that... battles can be exhausting when making those decisions.

[soulsword]

Indeed they can. So often people do not consider the bigger picture and comprehend that sacrifices must be made.

[whereishe]

Yeah.

It's hard sometimes...
