[ While many would go out of their way to avoid picking up oddities while looking through the items people were trying to sell as they cleared out their clutter in what he could only describe as suspicious spring cleaning… A certain mage had always been rather drawn to picking up items of such a nature (often left behind by other mages who would not appreciate the ‘Scourge of Mage Society’s’ nosiness) and then analyzing and reverse engineering them himself… Maybe making some improvements.
Everyone needed a hobby, right? And at least this meant someone who knew what they were doing was picking stuff up before people who wouldn’t know did.
Of course, not everything always went to plan and sometimes the universe threw you little curveballs for its own amusement… And Waver was many things, amusing when ruffled being one of them. One of the townsfolk had slipped in a ‘bonus’ without his noticing, and while he absolutely could probably solve it… It wasn’t so simple when it presented a very distracting situation.
So… You know… Enjoy the sight of a man on his last nerve and the sound of multiple meows coming from the other end of the feed. Yes, that’s right, he’s got a cursed object that has attracted a bunch of stray cats to his workshop. ]
Afternoon, everyone. I seem to have picked up something a bit… complicated.
[ Gods, this is embarrassing… The man tries to keep a straight face, but there’s a stressed switch in his brows. ]
I’m sure there have been a few people who’ve already picked up oddities that the locals have been trying to get rid of, and while most of the ones I’ve come across have been fascinating finds…
[ No, seriously, his magic-solving brain has enjoyed the workout. ]
It seems something was slipped in that, while I can undo the enchantment, is proving to be more distracting than I can properly focus on.
[ Another meow, the sound of a beaker being pushed off the counter and breaking on the floor, is heard. Waver takes a deep breath. ]
If anyone is good with cats, I would gladly pay them to- stop scratching up my sofa! And you! Get down from there! [ He cleared his throat before trying again. ] I will pay someone to gather and remove these trouble makers before they destroy my workshop!

Which I appreciate. They definitely need help to get out of my workshop.
[ He wishes he were better at this… ]

[ He needs them gone, for his peace of mind and the good of his various magical experiments on the go. ]

[ He’s deactivated the bounded field for now since it’s doing fuck all to deter the cats from approaching. ]
Perhaps… I suppose I’ll need to get some things to clean up this mess, anyway.

[ He has a feeling they have very different ideas about what was an enjoyable time. He was more the stay in and play JRPGs all night type if he didn’t decide to get lost in research. ]

[ Curiosity killed the cat and all that. So many interesting, mysterious items going around and a bad habit of picking them up to reverse engineer. He thought he couldn’t get in trouble for it this time, being in a world where that wouldn’t earn enemies for it… Alas. ]
But I um… appreciate the idea.

[Noises around her and the background says she's found a fish monger.]
Buy clothes then. They are fun!
no subject
[ Goddamned embarrassing mistake, honestly. ]
Oh, huh…
[ Clothes, right. ]
I’m not sure about fun, but I suppose I have been meaning to replace some.
no subject
[Yes, clothes are fun. YOu should get some.]

[ He really did, Lauri. Thank the gods that Reines or a few of his students aren’t here. He’d never hear the end of it. ]
I mean, if you think it’s that great, then you can have it. Well… Maybe after I adjust the spell on it a little, I don’t think anyone wants this many cats around.
[ He can’t think of a decent use for it. Even if he does fix the spell on it, someone might as well take it once he knows it isn’t going to wreak havoc on their day. ]

[ Although, Waver somehow has a feeling Lauri-El would take on this many cats without so much as a second thought… but he still can’t send her off with the charm in good conscience without altering it a bit first. There’s just so many cats, she hasn’t seen the full extent yet. ]

[Which she shall manage, after another ten minutes. So yes, here's a large alien coming to find out what is going on.]

Waver is surrounded by far more cats than he had counted before at the start of their conversation… And, covered in cat hair, is currently trying to pick one up that was content to go dead wait in his grasp to make picking it up more difficult.]
Oh, would you please work with me, you furry little imp! [ he catches sight of the woman a second later. ] Ah, you found your way here then. Did you um… Find everything?
[ It goes unspoken, but his exhausted expression practically screams ‘Help me.’ ]

[She puts her basket on a surface and pulls out the first packages. Paper wrapped bundles that look large and smell... Well, fishy. She carries these over to the door and puts them nearby.]
I have brought you offerings of the best fish. Today it is carp. It is very very tasty. I had some last night myself. Please try.

[ He responded to the correction with a sigh. Like he cares about his students and is (secretly) proud of them, but they’re also chaotic little pains in the ass sometimes.
Yeah, he is definitely going to do something about the smell later, but for now gives up his current battle with the difficult cat in favor of seeing what they do.
They are reasonably quick to react, a few catching the scent at first and the rest following suit. Before long, Lauri is surrounded by many many many cats. ]
Well, you were right about them being hungry; I guess.
[ He is very quick to reclaim the bar counter where he kept his work spread out to work on undoing the cat curse. ]

Furbeasts are predators. Predators know to eat when the chance is given if they are not glutted, as there may be lean times ahead. They will eat when good food is offered.
no subject
[ He agreed, glancing up from his world again as the cats swarmed Lauri for a chance at some tasty fish. ]
And if I’m not mistaken, these are probably all strays from around the city, so they aren’t fed the same way house cats would be.
no subject
[And Lauri-Ell cannot give that to all of them. Though...]
You should give the thing that brings cats to someone wealthy. To set up a place to help people adopt these lovely beasts.
no subject
And blinked.
And tilted his head thoughtfully, his brow furrowed a bit. ]
You know, that’s not a bad plan. I do have some contacts around the city from when I was helping with getting the magic academy’s funding in place.
[ wealthy families did exist, and there was probably at least one among them eccentric enough to take in that many cats. ]
no subject
[She knew that one well. It helped more to go for that direction with the forge after all.]
no subject
[ His luck here has, oddly, been better than his luck back in his own world… Though Waver’s debt issues were his own doing, at the end of the day, and a different situation entirely. ]
But I was lucky enough to happen upon several names of past supporters of the academy that were interested in supporting it again, so it was a start. And with some luck, one of them might be willing to take the cats and look after them…
[ That puts his mind at ease, somewhat, having a plan of action. It’s helped him see the end of the feline fiasco on the horizon. That said, he was distracted by the prick of nails against his leg. Something small and rather scrappy began mewing and trying to scale him. ]
Excuse me, but the fish is over there.
[ he huffed in response, reaching to try to pry the dark bundle of fur off his leg and failing as it latched onto his arm to climb instead. ]
Ow, ow hey this is my favourite coat.
