Attention Aterat residents. This is Captain Khannar of the Guard speaking.

[He takes a breath before continuing.]

I'm sure you're all aware at this point that something has happened. Since the arcane explosion two weeks ago, no responsible parties have been located and little evidence has been brought forward as to what could have caused it.

But...we've got a bigger problem. The past week, we've been getting a lot of reports of a...monstrous bear, sightings. We've got plenty of reason to think this thing is dangerous, and I'm hard-pressed not to believe the...sleep problems we've all been experiencing are connected.

It goes without saying I'm urging caution, but I also know many of you are more capable than most of our guards. I hate to put this responsibility on you, but locating and stopping this bear is a top priority.

I'll answer whatever questions I can.

[He hasn't mentioned directly that bodies have been found, but those who keep their ears to the ground start hearing rumors through the populous to that effect.
