I like how everyone is telling stories recently. This is fun. I have heard so many interesting things! I am sorry to say that the Kree do not have many cultural tales, or at least not many of which I had a chance to hear.

I have, though, heard many things about interesting alien species of which I have not had a chance to encounter. Perhaps you would enjoy hearing about one of those. But which one...

[A moment of thought before she makes a humming noise to herself and then continuing,]

Ah! The Flerkins. Yes. There are stories about them, once even in association with the Kree. They are said to be small, fluffy little beasts. They go about upon four feet, and bear a tail. Their bodies are furred and their faces are small with strong, needle like teeth. And they have triangular ears that it is said can reflect their emotions as much as their tails might.

They are said to be a very intelligent species and when they see things they desire, they open their great maws with something like a yawn, with the tentacles they store in extra-dimensional space, and snatch it to store away.

But I hear they are very beautiful too, and they like petting if they do not hate you. In wonder how soft they are. Maybe they are soft like my sister's fur-beast, Chewie.

Well, I suppose it doesn't matter. This place does not have many non-human species after all.

Flerkins Taking Your Stuff!
Is it just you or are there more orange tabby cats around the town? They seem to be in so many places. Strolling through the halls of the dormitories, napping on the tops of market stalls, and watching with big, bright green eyes from alleys.

Mostly they stay out of the way (even if they prove to be very good at getting into places they don't belong). Unless, of course, they see something they very much like the look of. Then, whether watched or not, the true nature of the Flerkin comes to the fore. The cat owns its mouth far wider than seems physically possible, fleshy tentacles flashing from its mouth and wrapping around the object. Which then disappears into its mouth. The feline-like creature then proceeds to clean a paw with something that absolutely looks like nothing but a normal cats' tongue.

"Mew?" it asks when attention turns on them.

[ Llewellyn is having a very odd day. He doesn’t mind cats, not at all! But the influx of feline followers he’s found himself with over the last couple of days has been a bit… curious. He’s also noticed that following the stories shared by people, that something more… real… tends to follow. What should be even more curious was the increase in lost things in the last couple days, but it’s not exactly weird for him to lose things out of his pockets once in a while. That just seemed normal for him.

On the bright side (for his coworkers) said lost items were not currently littering the Gullwing office floors and desks!

Mm… I realize by your story the other day that you likely haven’t uh- seen one before… But based on the description, do you think it would be strange to mistake a flerkin for a cat? I couldn’t help but notice there’s been a lot more cats about of late and it got me thinking.

[ Based on his prior conversations with Lauri-Ell, the detective supposes he should have expected that question. ]

Oh, well… Small, furred, four-legged creatures with tails- [ wait. ] But not dogs like Pretzel, different. Like your description, their ears are more small and pointed. They don’t bark, tend to meow instead.

Ah, like a furbeast. You are describing my sister's Beast very well.

[ That cleared that up, at least in the Detective’s mind. ]

Yes, I believe the furbeast you know would be called a cat in my world. So uh- going back to my prior question… [ He digs around his pocket absentmindedly, frowning lightly as he can’t find his notebook. ] Could a furbeast, as you called it, be mistaken for a flerkin?

Why would you think that a ‘cat’ as you say is a Flerkin? They aren’t real.

Well, uh… [ He knows he tends towards some level of paranoia. You didn’t escape being that way, living the kind of life he had. ] I’ve noticed in the last few days that there are far more ‘cats’ around the city than usual, and there’s been something of a pattern with many of these stories becoming true in some form.

Interesting. ANd you believe these cats are the Flerkins and thus you are seeing them. How interesting. I wonder if this means my sister's Beast is one.

That is my line of thinking… [ He tilted his head slightly at that. If she had limited experience with cats and no experience with flerkins, was that possible? It wasn’t as though she’d have much to compare to, unlike the rest of them. ] Did your sister’s beast ever uh- exhibit behaviors that could also be compared to your descriptions of a flerkin?

Well, she did eat a tree.

[ A… Tree… Llewellyn’s brows raise comically high. ]

Uh- Well… I can say with confidence that normal cats definitely don’t eat trees.

[She might be missing a thing or two, Yin isn't aware of that, yet, as she hasn't spied on her own apartment - yet. What Yin does know is she seems to have acquired a visitor that followed her home one day.]

[The visitor says "Mew," "Mew?" and "Mew!" at times, and is very soft. The softness is what drives her to turn on her device and contact Lauri-Ell, after so long of Yin not initiating contact.]

[She picks up a Flerkin - it sure looks like an orange tabby cat - and tries to get it in the device window. She doesn't look directly at the Tell-Phone proper, and the screen might be taken up entirely by the Flerkin, now. The creature seems somewhat content with Yin. Yin doesn't seem to notice when things go missing, she's quiet and mostly keeps to herself, after all.]

Is this a [her tone ever even only pauses as she recalls Lauri-Ell's words] fur-beast?

[Yin, friend, it is good to see you've discovered how to work the network. It makes Lauri-Ell smile.]

That very much looks like Carol's Beast. I have learned there are many types of fluffy beasts that humans keep as companions, so I had to clarify and refer to those like Beast as 'fur-beasts' as opposed to 'scent-beasts'.

There are so many around these days.

It's like Mao. [But it doesn't talk, and isn't a person trapped in a cat.]

Do you know what they like to eat? [She should feed it, right?]

Fish. The Beast LOVED fish.

[Bit of a pause.]

Where can I find fish here? [Does she have enough money? Maybe she can go fishing for free.]

There are a few fishmongers in the markets. Would you like me to join you for shopping? I have learned how to identify good fish.

[Yin nods her head, very appreciative of the company, perhaps Lauri-Ell's company specifically.]
