aterat | Video; Academy Findings and Mischief Afoot

Good afternoon, everyone.

[ The mage looks oddly pleased for once as he set his phone against something to record. The tired frown he was known for had lightened to something close to a smile as he grabs a pen to write while he speaks.]

I just wanted to share some news concerning the Academy. In my spare time, I’ve been going through the records room for anything that survived the incident. In doing so, I’ve come across the names of past supporters of the Academy and we’ve actually managed to locate some of the ones that are here now. Since then, we’ve put together and presented them with a proposal that they’ve since accepted and agreed to financially support the school as they did before.

[ Some scribbling is heard before the pen is traded out for another with a small hum, the first had been empty. ]

Anyway, this will mean a few things. First, those of us who’ve been working there will start receiving pay. Second, the academy will be able to hire for a wider variety of positions as well. Such as maintenance, cafeteria, administration, more teachers and other things. [ More scribbling. Another pen is traded out. Then another. Waver is starting to wonder if any of his pens have ink in them. ]… Finally, the academy is going to be undergoing a full restoration. Local businesses will likely be contracted to assist with both structural and cosmetic repairs.

[ Yes, despite the pen thing, he’s definitely smiling at this point. Seeing a school in disrepair has been bothering the professor for obvious reasons. Still, there is more to address, so he moves on even as he reaches for another pen. ]

Along with old lesson plans and financial records, I’ve also found that all official documents bore the signature of the headmaster from when the school was last operational. His name was ‘Percival Quincy.’ I would like to ask if anyone recognizes the name, or if they can get in touch if they run across anything relating to him? All I've heard about the headmaster before now would be that he was involved with the research of the cryst… So I think it would be beneficial to learn more about him and his work if we can.

[ Waver's brow twitches in slight annoyance as yet another pen hasn’t got ink in it. Pulling a fountain pen out of his coat pocket, he goes to continue and… Nothing. Unscrewing the pen, he gets a rather ridiculous befuddled look on his face. There’s not even a cartridge in the pen itself. ]

What in the…? [ He lets out an annoyed huff, tossing the pen to the desk among the others. ] It seems that I have to go and deal with someone's idea of a prank now. Thank you for your time.

It's quite impressive that none of them find it unsettling. Though, I suppose, we should be rather grateful for that. I can only imagine the problems it might cause if they did start to become bothered by their strained memories. [ Her first thought was that they might become violent if they began to think on it too much. Which would be quite the disaster for everyone here. She'd hate to have to think about harming any of them. ]

At the very least that might be something to look into? There are quite a few people here with magic, surely you could all work together to figure something out. [ It couldn't be that hard for them, right? ]

It is strange, really… I can’t say I’d be fine with knowing there’s something I should remember but can’t. [ He’d be terribly to deal with in their place, really. ] But they really didn’t seem that upset by not being able to recall the headmaster more than vaguely. It is perhaps lucky for us… And something to note for if we learn more about them and process that might have been used to bring them back.

[ More small hints and details. Maybe one day they’d make a part of the picture complete. ]

It is if they’re agreeable to it, I’ll have to have a word with them as I see them. [ Part of his hope aside from getting the headmaster’s name out there was to hopefully get more of those capable interested. To broaden the search and expand what knowledge they had when there was so little of it. ] Until then, I’ll start trying to see what I can do with what I have and see if anyone else reaches out concerning the headmaster.

Perhaps there's also something involved that prevents them from becoming too upset by it. Though, that's also a bit unsettling to be quite honest. [ Perhaps it was just that the very idea of having such strange gaps in memory bothers her. ] I would certainly like to learn more about this process. It isn't the first time I've encountered memory wipes on such a large scale, but I'm certain this has little similarities to that instance.

[ At least she really hoped not. ]

I’d like to know more about it myself… It seems different from what I’ve seen myself, but that isn’t surprising given how different some worlds seem from one to the next. [ The way magic worked everywhere was fascinating, but it also meant possibilities were even wider than normal. ] It might help to understand the locals situation a little better, and what to expect from them in the future should our situation change drastically.

[ And situations always changed drastically, usually at the worst time… ]

Of course, I’ll be sure to share anything further I learn. In this, it’s better that we’re all on the same page than to keep secrets.

The problem becomes if there is actually is a way to learn more about that. I suppose the first step might be in determining where precisely this magic or power originates from. [ Which seemed...next to impossible. Was it a spell? The power of some entity they didn't know about? A result of the portal? There seemed to be too many questions to answer. She sighed. ]

At this point in time, it’s hard to say… But if we can find some kind of lead, it might eventually. [ He responded thoughtfully. He was used to analyzing magics. Reverse engineering some things with the cooperation of someone who had more power than himself to follow his instruction. But he needed more to go on. The way magic worked here was so very different… More close to an age that had long since ended in his own world, and yet still different from that yet again. ] I appreciate hearing whatever you find, Mitsuru. The more of us looking, the better.

I certainly agree. Here's to hoping we find something worthwhile. Some lead or information at all would be most appreciated.

It would be… Especially where the Academy is concerned. It seems very tied up with what happened here, with the void cryst experiment taking place there and all.

I wish we knew more about it. Then again, I wish we knew more about everything in general. I do think you're correct, the Academy seems tied to a number of things we know nothing about.

The Academy really seems to be at the center of things, what with these small details. It might just be the thread to tug that unravels other things as well, if we’re lucky.

Strangely, a school was at the center of things back in my world as well. That was where that place, Tartarus, that I told you about, came from. Of course, it wasn't originally a school. I wonder if that could hold true here. If it wasn't always an Academy or if it held more than we realize.

[ That was an interesting idea, and certainly something to think about. ]

That’s a very good point. It might have been repurposed as the academy for one reason or another… What was your school before, if you don’t mind me asking?

A research laboratory.

[ And the Clock Tower had always been more than just a school, so that checked out… ]

Then considering what we know of the academy, all the more reason to consider the possibility.

Mmhm, that's what what I was thinking. Though I think if the Academy turns out to be anything like my school we'll have serious problems.

It’s worth keeping in mind, even if it’s not pleasant to imagine. Better than being blindsided by it just because we don’t want it to be true.

It is better to be prepared, you're not wrong. I hope we find something of worth out soon
