Memory Share Event Broadcasts

[ Llewellyn Watts-Maresh wasn’t entirely unused to the idea of his memories being shared with the world around him, but… He still not fond of the experience. Especially given there were now a lot of things that he’d rather not be seen, after his recent trip back to his own world.

Once the situation is brought to his attention, he will likely find his way home for the day for obvious reasons. ]

[ Llewellyn could be quite foolish, and admittedly, he felt it at the moment. The comment gets an apologetic expression, rubbing the back of his neck lightly. ]

I didn’t really want you to worry. I wanted to try to avoid that if I could… Suppose its kind of hard not to, though. [ He moved, helping Rhy out of his coat to hang up. ] Come in and have a seat, love. I have some soup heating and we can um… talk.

[He's heard that 'we need to talk' is a bad sign. So Rhy looks a touch worried when his husband helps him divest himself of his coat. In fact, he looks tense as he moves toward the kitchen.]

[ He’s not good at this, and considering the last few times he had a serious conversation with someone he loved? It probably was natural that he himself be worried about how it would go, considering the track record that had developed in his own world.

But Rhy wasn’t like the other two, and he wasn’t like his sister. This was his husband who’d been far different from them all. He fussed a bit with arranging some cutlery as he tried to figure out what to say or where to start.]

I mean it when I say my intent wasn’t to make you worry, love… I um… It’s not really anything to do with life here, so much as… Back there. [ He gestured slightly, indicating his own world. ] I know I haven’t talked about it much… Mostly because I prefer not to think about it, but with our memories being shared again… It was foolish of me to have not said more. There are things I realize you shouldn’t have to see without any prior knowledge of. There was more than the play on the network, I’m afraid.

[Back there. Ah, that was a complication he well understood concern over. After all, Rhy had his own weight 'back there' with Alucard.]

There was? And what is it you are suddenly concerned I would know?

[ What, indeed. Llewellyn knows that there’s so much to it. The memory shared was one part of a fairly long train wreck that went on and on… But he knows what he’s concerned about most, of course. ]

I... I told you that I had met someone… More than one someone, and that it had never worked out. I just um… Never really went into the details of why or what happened. And… A lot happened? [ Anxiously rubbing the back of his neck, he finally sat down in a chair awkwardly. Then stood up again. He’s agitated by the memories alone, even before really talking about it. ] I suppose I’m concerned that you’d worry, for a start… And that seeing what a mess I can make of things might make you realize what they did. That I’m not… Worth it.

[Not worth it? Rhy goes from patient and attentive to completely impatient in seconds flat.]

You would dare to suggest that I would ever give my time and attention and love to someone unworthy? I'm a king, Llewellyn, and I am not so frivolous with my love. With sex, yes, I was once. But never with my heart.

[ Llewellyn’s shoulders sag at the tone in his husband’s voice. ]

I would never think that of you, my love. It’s just… [ He stared at the table in front of him, swallowing some of the hurt he still tried to manage from his recent return to his world. ] I can make an awful mess of things sometimes. People who saw me as worth having around, who said I was… They changed their minds once they saw that.

I can be impulsive, do things without thinking and it can make things worse rather than better, even if my intentions are good.

[ He cleared his throat awkwardly, knowing an example was probably necessary. What better place to look than the network post? ]

You know that my world isn’t as… accepting as others of men like us. So I never really let myself be, as I am. Not until Jack. [ The man that he had mentioned once, having only just met him before Llewellyn arrived at the Sphere. Having embarrassed himself somewhat and thinking there was probably nothing there, but being wrong. ] He told me that some things were worth the risk, and I believed that. For once I… Tried to take that chance. It was fine for a while. [ It was good, like this. ]

The first time trouble came, Jack had been arrested by a detective who saw us out together… I followed through on what was said. I took a risk. I put myself on the line with my Inspector. I gave him the ultimatum that if Jack deserved to be behind bars for simply being who he was, then so should I. [ Which Rhy would know was dangerous, given all experience Llewellyn had with the Inspector prior suggested he was not an ally. ] And it worked out… For a while, things were fine. Then another man saw Jack for what he was and painted slurs across his shop window. Jack’s business meant everything to him, and well… I did what I thought was right. I arrested the man- but it was a mistake. And Jack decided what we had wasn’t… worth it anymore, I guess. Thought it was too dangerous. So he ended things. I tried to fix it, but it was too late. He’d already decided he’d rather pretend to not be himself. He was engaged to a woman within hours and that was that for a while.

[ For a while. Before the man changed his mind again. But Llewellyn falls silent to take a breath, considering what had happened in between. ]

What?

[Rhy can’t think of anything for a long period of time to say except for that. Because he can’t fathom doing that to a lover. In fact, Rhy is fuming. Had he a spark, a fire would no doubt be started. This was horrid.]

No. You did the right thing. Even if he didn’t approve of you doing it as a lover, you were upholding your duties to the law. The coward!

[Rhy needs to start a fight.]

[ The silence that passed seemed to stretch for a time, and the longer Rhy went without speaking, the more anxious Llewellyn got. That hadn’t even been all of it, after all.

But Rhy’s reaction was not unlike someone else’s to Jack’s behavior. It was somehow not surprising, but it gets a sad expression. ]

It felt like the right thing, and… It’s nice to know my first instinct wasn’t just me, but it was still an impulsive decision on my part. I should have thought more clearly before I acted… Charging the man for his crime would have meant a trial, and a trial would have put Jack under scrutiny, which would have been hard to disprove given he’d been under suspicion before.

[ What hurt more was not being given a chance to sort it out and fix it, of course, but it felt important to give his husband the whole picture. ]

He did… change his mind again, months later.

Change his mind? He wanted you to pursue the charges at that point?

[Because there was no way that the man was ever going to be so foolish as to try and seduce Llewellyn again. That would piss Rhy off to no end, and he wouldn't be happy to hear his husband so poorly treated.]

[ Ah, Rhy. If only Llewellyn could say something other than what would upset him further… Instead, the detective shook his head. ]

I um… No, the time for that had long passed… It had been months, after all. It was that he wanted to start seeing each other again.

[ On the side, deciding most everything about what they could do or when they would see one another. His wife hadn’t liked it but had allowed it, especially since Jack always ran back to her and the baby every time. ]

[No, he doesn't like hearing that. Rhy's on his feet and pacing.]

I hate your world, Llewellyn. It sounds too much like what Alucard's family life was like. Abusive for no damn reason.

[ Llewellyn watches his husband begin to pace, the frown on his face deepening slightly. He isn’t fond of his world either for a myriad of reasons, and he hates that he has to share it. ]

I can’t say that I disagree… But it is how things are there, at least for now. I’ve been told some things get better, but… [ Not in his time, even if he lived to be an old man, it would only just be starting towards change. ] Not for some time… Right now it’s either change and conform to the expectations of society or… [ He doesn’t even know how to go into that. Clearing his throat awkwardly, he continued. ] Jack simply wanted to try to have both a ‘normal’ life and our relationship. A lot of people turn to that, try to live a lie… Even that didn’t work either, though.

There is nothing abnormal about our life together, about who you are.

[Rhy is absolutely not impressed by this man's decisions.]

May you never go home, ever. This should be our home for the rest of our lives. Our place of joy.

I know being here makes that so very clear, my love. [ And it had been a relief upon returning, even as he adjusted again. His world had driven him to doubt himself. To almost- well, for a time he had, let the views of others push him. ] I would certainly be happiest to stay here, to not return to that place again. It’s… I don’t think I can say I think of it as my home anymore, haven’t for a while… My home is here.

Yes, it is.

[Rhy smiles. He could never bring himself to go to Llewellyn's world after all. If they went home, he'd want to go to his own. But he didn't want to be home when he could have Llewellyn here, safely.]

[ Truthfully Llewellyn would never want Rhy to see his world either. There were too many reasons why it would be a terrible place for his husband. He wouldn’t be safe, and the detective couldn’t bear the thought of him having to live in such a place. ]

I’m glad for it… and for you, my love.

[Rhy hesitated before reaching for Llewellyn. He needs to embrace the man.]

Let me do my best to comfort you, love.

[ Llewellyn notices the other’s slight hesitation, but reaches back once Rhy moves forward. He would never turn his husband’s arms away, and it was a welcome gesture. To be close, to feel wanted and accepted after such a stark reminder of what was waiting for him in his world. ]

You are already the greatest comfort, Rhy…

I am glad to hear it. Because I need you comforted. You experienced something traumatic.

[ Llewellyn lets out a small breath at that. It is not something he liked to think about. There had been so much of it over the years, but it was hard to deny that it had almost been one thing after another more recently. ]

Then… Perhaps we can find a more comfortable place to relax together. [ The kitchen table was hardly the place, and Rhy had been pacing long enough. ] You, me, and our Pretzel.

A more comfortable place, was it?

[Well, he supposes he can allow that. He nods and looks around.]

You need to eat though, so not bed.

[ Llewellyn had to smile a little at that, finally. ]

Certainly not the bed, as comfortable as that would be. I would hate to make a mess. [ Gathering things together, he considered the options. ] How about we curl up on the sofa together while we eat and relax?

Alright. Go lay down. I'll bring some food.

You are too kind to me, dear. I’ll be waiting for you.

[ He responded with a soft smile and a final hug before he drew away from his husband’s arms and moved to the other room. ]
