Memory Share Event Broadcasts

[ Llewellyn Watts-Maresh wasn’t entirely unused to the idea of his memories being shared with the world around him, but… He still not fond of the experience. Especially given there were now a lot of things that he’d rather not be seen, after his recent trip back to his own world.

Once the situation is brought to his attention, he will likely find his way home for the day for obvious reasons. ]

[Oh, it would be brought to his attention. Brought in the form of his liason officer showing up at the door to the Gullwings, already dosed with his allergy meds, and holding a jug of cider.]

Sit down. We're drinking. Sorry I don't have any snacks with me. I ate all my husband made for me for lunch.

Beloved, it seems your memories have pulled a sphere again. And my dear what sort of play could lead to something so scandalous as a murder? How horrid.

Hadn't missed this. [ She sighs and there's deep sympathy in her tone. ] He wasn't worth your time anyway.

Soooo....[ she taps her chin thoughtfully. ] it seemed like everyone was just as upset with him over the tryst than the murder...

[ Colour Llewellyn confused at the sight. Then again, he wasn’t expecting the liaison to visit that day, after all. Plus… Well, he wasn’t quite aware of the whole situation yet, having just returned from picking up a sandwich for lunch in the market. ]

We are? [ Nida didn’t drink, after all, at least not the way Llewellyn did. Then he saw the cider, Nida’s usual choice of drink at social gatherings, and supposed that was what he meant to share. ] Ah- well, I have some things in my desk if you wanted snacks, [ Of course he does. ] but um… What’s the occasion?

[ A… Sphere… Well, that can’t be good. He stared at his phone for a moment, reading over the message a couple of times. Ah… His husband had witnessed John’s play, likely enough. ]

Again…? Well, I’m not sure what might have caused it this time, do be careful… But thank you for the warning, my love. I uh- suppose you saw something from John’s first play. I’m afraid in that case, it wasn’t the play that lead to the murder, but money and wounded pride. The victim’s husband murdered her because she intended to divorce him and take her money elsewhere.

Nope… I uh- definitely didn’t either. [ There’s an awkward frown in his tone. ] Mm… that’s kind of you to say… Though to be honest, I had a hard time seeing it then, or even the second time.

[ To say his personal life back in Toronto was a mess would be an understatement, unfortunately. It was almost weird how much more… balanced and adjusted his life was here. ]

[ Llewellyn raised a brow. He couldn’t deny that’s how that portion of the evening seemed. ]

Ah, well, the tryst was all he was involved in and his parents were standing right there to find out about it, so it got a bit heated, I suppose. Really, it over complicated the investigation more than anything. John has a… particular habit of making questionable decisions with poor timing. [ This was the third time... ] That was only a small portion of that particularly odd evening, though. Mm… and his father, the inspector, has a temper. I’ve been on the receiving end of it myself, so no one wanted to really start something right then and there and see the investigation become derailed.

[The look Nida gives the man is a pitying one, for just a moment, before he produced cups and started to pour.]

They weren't always friendly to people like us back on Hyne either. But... But I was lucky enough I guess to never see slurs painted outside of businesses.

Oh dear. I suppose it's true then. Follow the money is dreadfully tired.

So, which of them was sleeping with which other of them?

I bet things would have been a lot easier if he'd been honest about that little fact from the start, huh? [ But then again it seemed like something to be pretty embarrassed about. So maybe she couldn't blame the guy too much. ] Oh no! His father was the inspector too? I bet that must have been extra embarrassing for him that his son did that. [ She can kiiiinda understand why he got so mad then. ] Did you eventually get the culprit?

I'm sorry. [ She sighs. Guess there was never really was escaping that kind of invasion of privacy. Something about him saying that hit her with a twinge of sadness. That was way too similar to feelings she'd had herself. ] There was a second time?

[ Llewellyn wasn’t entirely unfamiliar with that look, and he doesn’t like the odd sinking feeling he gets at it. Especially once Nida starts talking about something he definitely did not remember sharing with people since he got back. Well. Hellfire. His expression shifts to something more than a little uncomfortable as he stared instead at the cups Nida was filling. ]

Mm… By that I presume that means this place is playing show and tell with our memories again. [ He’s getting really tired of that happening, honestly. Between the Sphere and the crystal rain last time, he wasn’t really fond of the idea of this becoming a regular thing. Sighing, he shoves a few papers around his desk out of anxious habit. ] It’s a common enough occurrence for people to do such things or draw attention to us if they find out where I’m from, unfortunately.

It is most often a motive, I’m afraid. Hm… That’s a bit complicated. John slept with the victim before her death, which was why his parents were rather scandalized. [ Poor Mrs. Brackenreid. He still couldn’t fathom how Murdoch missed catching her. ] She had stopped sleeping with her husband because uh- she did not please him, so to speak… I believe the play writer and the understudy also had something going on.

Indeed it is. I don't know what triggered it. Not the crystals like last time as far as I could tell. But it's happening. And it's on the Network.

It happened to us in the city of Dualis too. And the Iteration, though less common there.

Ah, the lives of actors. How I missed their drama. Have I ever told you I once hired one to help my brother hide his identity?

[England's expression is one of knowing, having of course lived through that period of time. And all he felt was shame for the people who created such laws. That sort of attitude still prevailed everywhere and all he could do was feel sympathy for two people who simply wanted to love each other.

This Jack person baffled him but he wasn't about to bad mouth the man. He knew that historically that happened, but it didn't make it any easier.]

I'm terribly sorry things didn't quite work out.

Things would be much easier if John were honest about little facts from the start, but it’s not the first time he’s kept things that would have been good to know to himself. I’m not entirely sure why he feels the need to omit certain things or keep quiet. Sometimes I wonder if it might be because of how his father reacts and his constant seeking of his approval. [ He offered a small, awkward nod. ] It certainly was, though he handled it better than I expected? Still feel bad for Mrs. Brackenreid. The shock of it was quite a lot for her.

Oh- yes, we did get the culprit not too long after that. Admittedly, John’s late information on the woman’s relationship and plans to divorce her husband helped to put the pieces together. Her husband was upset that she was planning to leave him and take her money with her.

[ Llewellyn hums a bit awkwardly at the question. Still, he brushed off the apologetic sympathy in favour of the question. ] That wasn’t exactly the end of it… Jack kind of changed his mind, and his wife said she didn’t care as long as her son had someone to call a father so… [ That had been what she said, but her actions and the looks she gave him had suggested otherwise. ] I still loved him. Suppose it made me a bit foolish to think it might not end poorly a second time. But Jack wanted things to be a very specific way, and I admit sometimes I’m not sure if he didn’t prefer her company to mine with how he acted.

[ Someone had pointed out on more than one occasion that the treatment had been a bit cowardly and unfair to Llewellyn, but he’d been trying to ignore that until it all got worse. ]

Then his wife turned up dead and I’m afraid it all turned into an even bigger mess from there.

[ Well, that gets a frown, and he popped his phone out of his pocket to check. There it all was on the network, and he doesn’t take long to spot the one he presumes Nida is here about. Sighing, he wished he had more than Nida’s offer of cider. Not that he didn’t appreciate the man’s intention, but it really wasn’t how he handled things like this. Healthy or not. ]

Mm… I uh- can’t say that I ever find myself getting used to it. It’s terribly unpleasant to have parts of your life that you’d rather put behind you displayed for all to see.

They do seem to thrive upon drama, at least based on what I learned through following John’s career. Having met your brother, I can only imagine how well he took a plan like that?

[ Llewellyn didn’t miss memory shares… He missed them being witnessed and brought up by strangers even less, so Arthur will have to forgive him for being a bit awkward about it. For one, he doesn’t like people offering words in the form of apologies, and for another, he doesn’t know the man. ]

An apology isn’t necessary, sir. It uh- was a mess I made in a life away from the one I lead here. I prefer to not dwell on it.

[ Or share it publicly, but that wasn’t in the cards either.]

[Sadly Nida could never offer alcohol because he would not trust himself with it.]

Yes, I know what you mean. I had people important to me see the worst day of my life. Well, the formerly the worst day of my life. It was horrible, having people see that.

I mean...it kinda looked like both his mom and dad overreact a bit. I guess you can't entirely blame him for being worried. Even if the worry leads to more of a mess later. [ Probably wouldn't be so bad if they'd just chill out some. ] The shock seems to have taken her real hard. Is she usually like that or was it just all a lot of stress at once?

Can't really blame him for being upset about that. Unless he was awful himself? Was he?

[England realized a memory like this couldn't have been easy to realize that others had seen it as well and so the unknown man had his sympathy.]

Of course. But it sounds as if your life here is better. And if that's the case, I do wish you all the joy you didn't find there.
