[the video starts with more of a whimper than a bang. daeshim is just sitting in a chair in the middle of his apartment, looking around a little uncertainly as he speaks.]

A question. What...does one do inside their apartment all day?

[this a first for him. sure, he had shelter in the forest, but that was all dirt floors and an open fireplace. just a step above the actual wilds.]

There are so many walls and no chimney. The air smells stale even when I open the window. Though I must admit, the hot water is nice! As is the indoor outhouse!

[he brightens briefly before folding his hands in his lap again. but his restlessness is almost tangible.]

It's just so quiet.

I mean, I don't tend to be around there most of the day. Gotta let Speedy get his sleep.

[And there are bad memories in the place, so Tommy was out in the city all the time.]

So bathrooms are new to you?

Speedy?

Mm! The water is so clear! It is strange to not see any fish when I bathe...

[Hope the guy has figured out texts, because he is being texted a picture of Speedy right away.]

My pet sloth. Really most of the apartment is his now.

Dude have you lived in the wild only?

[it's been a bit of trial and error, but he manages to get to the picture.]

Oh! I've never seen such a creature before... He's quite adorable!

It's true, I've never lived outside of the Ruinwood.

Ruinwood? Man, that place sounds like a bad choice in general. Wow.

[Never saw anything like Speedy? Oh well, that's how it goes.]

It is a lovely place!

[his gasp is audible. but then...the silence that follows suggests a little more thought.]

It is true that it was once a dark and ruined place, a scene of tragedy. But I assure you, it's much different now.

Different how? Like, did you make it better?

Flowers bloom again, and every spring brings new life whether it has fur or feathers or scales.

The reason is perhaps related to me...my hopes, if that makes sense.

Almost sounds beautiful when you put it like that.

Do you have any hobbies? I spend my days at home either cleaning or working on the projects with my hobbies. Clothes for my husband, decorations, toys for the dog. I make things. It is very soothing.

Oh! And reading!

Hobbies...I suppose growing things might count. I've always considered it more my duty than a hobby, but I do enjoy it! Oh, and looking for treasures!

What sort of books do you enjoy?

Well, Miss Aerith has a flower shop. And there's some woman who built a greenhouse on top of the blue apartments.

And I like any sort. There is a pleasure just in reading itself.

Blue...I very much like that color. Much better than red.

[which is where he lives. but...perhaps he should visit the roof of his own apartments.]

I've read books about plants and birds and mysteries. I only had a few, and their pages were thin and worn, but I wish I had brought them for you to see.

Red is a very fetching color in and of itself.

[He was overly partial to it though.]

Well then, you should go to see what books we have available here. Maybe you can find something wonderful there.

It is the color of blood.

[of course, it's the color of many other things too: daeshim's favorite apples, cardinal birds and holly berries at yule. but daeshim's first thought still goes to - that.]

I will take your advice! The colder months are surely approaching, and I may appreciate this part-mint more then. Especially with new books to help pass the time.

It is the color of life, and magic itself.

[So yes, he was fond of the color. It was one of the family colors.]

The experience is rather nice. TO be cuddled up warm with a book.

When I spend an entire day inside, usually I’m painting? Although I suppose I find places to do that outside as well, should I find the indoors too stifling for creativity. [ He didn’t live in the apartments, though. So perhaps it was a little different in his case. ] Is there a reason you’re staying inside all day if you do not find it enjoyable?

You paint? Like the pictures with all the colors?

[daeshim looks curious, and then chews on his bottom lip for a moment as he considers that question.]

I must admit, I hope to move back to a forest eventually. But for now, I thought it might be a wise change to live in the city! Only...there aren't the same things that need doing here either.

I suppose I am still getting my bearings.

Indeed! Or at least as many colours as I currently have in my art supplies, I suppose.

[ He smiled a little, angling his camera slightly to show off a rather messy looking space where he resided at the House of Solace. There’s paint on the floor and small footprints tracking through it… But mostly he was showing a shot of some of his current projects that varied from landscapes, to abstracts, to… some kind of tea-party of creatures. ]

Is that so? Such a shift in lifestyle and setting can be rather difficult to adjust to, and I admit this place is rather different compared to the city I arrived from as well. But perhaps with time you can find things to take up the time. Perhaps there are things you already like that might be achievable here, as well?

[he makes a soft 'oooh' sound as he leans closer to the camera to focus on those paintings. it's all so strange and fascinating to him. the colors are like pieces of a puzzle, working together to form a picture. but if he stares long enough, it always turns back into a bunch of pieces.]

It is one of the strengths of humans, I think. Your souls are incredible gifts! I...hope to become a Guardian once again. To make flowers and trees grow. And perhaps make friends.

[he sound sheepish about that last wish, a little pink color coming into his face.]

That is an interesting way to put it. [ The teen responded with a small, curious tilt of his head. He knew a few people who arrived in this place were sometimes not human, and Daeshim seemed to not be either. How interesting.. ]

A guardian? [ What did he mean by that, Yusuke wondered. Then, he hummed lightly at the things the other seemed to want to do. ] Perhaps you could make things grow here? I know a lovely woman who has an entire garden and keeps many plants in her apartment. And… Well, making friends seems rather common in this place. At least, I have made several since I arrived here a few months ago?

As I was of the Ruinwood. The creator of a safe haven. And yes, I can make things grow as easily as I can breathe!

[it might even be easier for him. he puffs his cheeks out to prove it, clearly holding his breath while a vine curls around his arm. it sprouts a few flowers too, until daeshim finally exhales heavily.]

I am hopeful! It will surely be easier if we have something in common.

[ Yusuke looked both surprised and slightly awed. He’d never seen such an ability before! ] That’s an amazing talent! How absolutely beautiful to be able to create such life like that.

[ He supposed having things in common with friends was important, although he had friends who were quite different from him as well… Though he tapped his chin lightly as he considered the other’s talents. ]

I know several people who are quite fond of plants and gardening. I’m sure they would be happy to know someone such as yourself!

[at 5'2", daeshim isn't the tallest of people. but his eyes grow wide at some of the the words that yusuke uses: amazing. beautiful. it makes him stands straight and tall, while his face turns a nice shade of pink that goes well with his purple hair.]

I- I am ugly and wingless, but your kindness is appreciated! I would be happy to lend my gifts to you should you ever need them. No trickery involved!

[ Yusuke seemed to blink a bit quizzically at Daeshim’s description of himself. ]

While I suppose I do not see wings, so wingless seems a truthful descriptor, I hardly see why one would describe you as ugly. [ Yusuke Kitagawa: King of making awkward statements that could be taken several ways, but are intended to simply be the objective truth as he saw it. But he smiles at the offer. Who is he to pass up potential assistance that might inspire his art? ] But that is most generous of you! I should very much like to take you up on the offer one day. I am always looking for someone willing to assist me in inspiring my artwork.

… Do you normally trick people?

It is in my kind's nature to be tricky or engage in dealings that always benefit them. But we also cannot lie. If I tell you that I will not do this, then you can trust that I will not.

I see… [ It’s still rather odd to think someone couldn’t lie, even if Yusuke tended towards honest than not. It almost sounded like something out of a story… But there were people from so many odd worlds here. ] Then I am grateful for you having said that. I am always more appreciative of those who speak the truth than not.

[His voice is quiet as usual.]

Well if you can cook, some people do that. Or you can read or sleep, it really depends on what you like to do.

I do enjoy cooking. And baking to a lesser degree...

[his voice softens and trails off before picking up again.]

My favorite thing to make is a soup of carrots and potatoes and onions! Which means I should start gardening.

[Yuki nodded to the cooking and baking. It seemed a lot of the folks who weren't native here enjoyed that hobby more or less. But then the other mentioned gardening.]

Did you garden back home?

Mm! I grew the Ruinwood from nothing but mud! The ground that no other Fae would dirty their feet with is now a magnificent forest. There is not a tree, nor a flower, nor even a blade of grass that I haven't tended to with my own hands and magic!

[if he sounds proud, well, he is talking about his pride and joy.]

Fae?

[That was one word he had heard of but in books. Okay so he heard it whispered around the office but he didn't tend to take anything seriously. However this person seemed to be pretty serious about it. And he didn't want to ask anything else because that would appear rude, so he skipped over it.]

Well some friends and I garden. So you'd be in good company here.

[This is his attempt at being welcoming since others had been kind and had done that very same thing for him.]

Mm. The Seelie and the Unseelie.

[daeshim is both but neither, too plain for one and too weak for the other.]

I would enjoy such company? What do you grow in your garden? Things to store for the coming winter, no doubt. I should find a spot of ground for some apple trees, and some oaks as well!

[Yuki was quiet as he heard the unfamiliar terms and was going to look those words up later because it would be too rude to ask. But at the enthusiasm he nodded.]

I can't say that I've ever planted trees. Are they easy to grow?

It is easy to coax them through the proper soil. The strongest acorns will always find their way. But sometimes it does take a little encouragement.

So it's no different than planting things like flowers or fruits it sounds like?

[He's admittedly curious here.]

Too quiet, right? I wasn't used to it either. [ And maybe she's still not, but Aerith tries to make the best of it. ] I tried to make my apartment more like my home back ...home. [ She laughs. ] Which meant bringing a lot of my flowers and other plants in. I still don't spend that much time there between the garden and my shop, but it's more homey when I do now!

[it takes him a moment to speak. she's pretty and daeshim is weak to pretty.]

Oh! This is a good idea! I took could put plants around everywhere! [just...probably not in a way that others do.] And mushrooms. It's a bit too small to bring any wildlife in...possibly some mice and snails....

[he taps his chin thoughtfully.]

I must also start a garden. What do you grow in yours?

Skies the limit with what you can do! Mushrooms would be a good pick though, I hadn't really thought of that. I brought a few herbs here and there.

[ She smiles, clearly excited to talk about her flowers ]

Tons! I have a few herbs, but it's mostly just different kinds of flowers. You'd be more than welcome to come by! I've got roses, amaryllis, peonies, lavender, gladiolus, iris, and a lot more. I've been working on it since I got to this place.

Herbs? You are a healer?

[it's the only kind of medicine that daeshim knows: herbs in teas or poultices or baths. he brightens at the flowers she names.]

So many beauties! I would very much like to see and introduce myself to them!

Sort of! Though some of these are just for cooking with. I mostly heal with magic.

[ She grins. ]

Feel free to come by sometime then! Anyone's more than welcome. The flowers like to show off for people. They told me so.

You have magic as well?

[he tilts his head. she looks quite human, so he just assumed. though humans can possess it now and then, if they're especially shiny.]

You have my word! What is the name of your shop?

I do. Materia and kinda my own sorta magic. [ It's taken her a long time to get more open about her own special abilities that come from being a Cetra. Her life back home had been one centered around hiding it, both for her sake and for others. But here things were different.

She looked a bit sheepish. ]

Just Aerith's Flower Shop. It's [ she puts her hands up in the air in a shrug ] to the point!

[There is a light chuckle from the other end of the communicator before Drizzt responds.]

You have aptly described why I don't stay there, my friend, to spite its conveniences.

You are correct, though, there are some things here I am thankful for. I was recently introduced to sunglasses.

Sun glasses? What do they do?

They are tinted lenses set within a frame one may wear upon the face. They cover your eyes and the coloring of the lens filters out a measure of light. They are quite comfortable.
