He hears the talk of a beach rather quickly. It wasn't that Tommy had more inroads to the gossip of the city than other people not native to this world that led to him finding out so fast. No, it was entirely just his business. Businesses reappearing and thus reopening around the shore meant goods needing delivered there for beach season. And urgent deliveries meant quick deliveries.

It meant Tommy's delivery service doing some seriously brisk business. Even if he wasn't the most fond of running on sand. But a beach was something he could get behind anyway, even if it wasn't normal to New Yorker life. No, he'd visited Kate a few times in California, which meant he'd gotten even more used to the idea of it, and the idea of something like home made Tommy act.

An ocean that he wasn't living under? Definitely worth visiting. Which was what Tommy found himself doing every weekend when he wasn't working. It hadn't taken much effort to find himself a big beach umbrella, a long blanket to lay upon on the sand, and of course, it was simple to gather snacks for himself too.

Was he wearing anything more than some short square-leg swim trunks in white and green? Nope. Was he absolutely laying there on the back sometimes, umbrella down, sunning so he could enrich his tan? Absolutely. Was there periods of time Tommy laid around, snacking and watching the waves? Totally.

Did Tommy seem likely to go into the water himself at all? Nope. Not without prompting.

But hey, good news: any time anyone at all walked nearby he smiled and offered a wave.

"Hey! Fucking beautiful, right?"

Mono’s expression shifted with a curious, hopeful emotion. “Yeah?? I bet games would be fun with more people, and I think everyone would like the beach, too.” So that was a very good idea, at least as far as the kid was concerned. He was pretty sure a lot of them would like the chance to enjoy the new place, especially while the weather was still nice. He wasn’t sure what beaches were like at other times of year, but it probably would be best during the summer.

Well, now he was going to have to arrange more time for games with his employees. He cared about the kids.

STrange, he'd somehow found himself a new family.

[monochromatically]

A family of kids who really did adore and appreciate him, if Mono’s words were true. Which, of course, they were. The kid really didn’t think lying was necessary outside circumstances where he didn’t think the adults in his life would like the truth concerning his world. So he was happy to have shared that bit of information with the guy, especially since Tommy seemed to need it of late. He had lost a lot of people, from what the boy understood now. “Thanks for playing catch and stuff with me today, Tommy. And for thinking up a fun day for stuff!”

"I'm glad," Tommy said, grinning. But he does catch the ball.

"How about we get a snack, okay? You and me."

[monochromatically]

“A snack? Yeah, that sounds good! I’m kinda hungry, I think.” He responded with a small nod, having worked up a small appetite from running around before and playing with Tommy for a while now.

Alright then. Tommy nods and moves back toward his things to put the ball down.

"Let's see, it's the beach, so maybe there are some beach foods. You ever have grilled shrimp with lime?"

[monochromatically]

That definitely has the boy curious. What were beach foods? What kind of stuff did people eat during a beach day? It sounded kind of special, compared to days spent in other places. “Nope! I dunno what that even is! I think I saw lime at a fruit stand before though, maybe. It’s like lemons, but green, right?” Was it good? It was probably good. Tommy wouldn’t suggest food that wasn’t good.

"Well, I think I'm going to find a watermelon if I can. And something grilled too. Or roasted. I'll give it a look."

ANd he has to figure something else out too. Something more filling.

[monochromatically]

“Okay! I bet whatever there is to try is good.” The boy responded with a small nod. He had found very little that he didn’t like when it came to food, but he also wasn’t prone to being picky, like some kids might be. He never had the option for one, and trying new food that had interesting flavours was really quite exciting.

"Alright, wait here, okay?"

Tommy smiled and darted off. Time to get some snacks for the kid.

“Okay! I wont go anywhere, promise.” He confirmed with a little nod, knowing that it wasn’t as though Tommy would be long to get back to with some interesting snacks to try!
