Greetings to my fellow outsiders. Visitors? Travelers?
Ah, really we must truly consider a term by which to address ourselves, but no matter, that is a thing for another day.
[Ah but the sigh that generates. He hates not being able to address things properly.]
It is summer, and I've been allowed to start another small project of my own at the shop. And to prove that this faith in me is not misplaced, I'm trying to come up with a nice product for people.
The problem is, fashion back home for me is very... stagnant. Well, there are some movers and shakers in fashion advances, but not enough.
[Was he one of those primary movers and shakers by nature of being royalty? Yes. Very yes.]
Tell me, what sorts of things were commonly worn where you are from in the summer months? Perhaps I shall be inspired!

And the question of summer fashion is one that he certainly had considered since arriving.
This one had a particular appreciation for traditional wear and it would be disappointing to attend summer festivals without a yukata to wear should some occur. ]
In the country I have arrived from, it is tradition to wear a garment called a lighter, summer weight kimono made of unlined cotton called a yukata to festivals. Though many simply wear more modern garb such as shorts and t-shirts as well, I suppose.
[ But they aren’t nearly as stylish for such events, in his opinion. ]
Re: [Video]
[Color him intrigued young man.]
Re: [Video]
A kimono is a long, loose front wrapped garment tied with a sash to put it in simple terms.
[ He reached over to snag his sketchbook, flipping to a page where he had a sketch drafted of someone wearing one and holding it up to the camera to give Rhy a better idea of what he was describing. ]
Typically, they’re made from narrow bolts of cloth called a tanmono, though they have been made from other styled bolts of fabric as well over the years.

[ Clothing such as his yukata, a futon to get a proper sleep on, more art supplies… There were a great many things he had realized he was going to have to do without upon his arrival. ]

[ But he’s curious now about this stranger and his projects. Aside from a Yukata… Well, he was going to need more than he had for clothing too. ]
What kind of clothing do you work on aside from this newer project? I have noticed that this world seems to have a particular aesthetic.

But that was something for him to think about later. For now, he was suddenly intrigued by this new style of vest for men. ]
Is that so? I can’t say I’ve seen one quite like that before. It must be a particularly detailed piece and complicated to put together, I imagine. I should like to see something like that?
no subject
[He smiles to hear the excitement to see it.]
You should seek out the proprietor of the Hunter's Lodge. I made it for his wedding.

[ Ah, he knows that name. Yusuke had recently run into the man while he was sketching a scene at the market. He had hoped Rhy meant something he could get a look at around the shop himself. A pity. Perhaps Rhy would have other unique things of interest to show when he stopped by. ]
I see? If you have not made another as an example, then I shall have to ask after it if I run into him again.
no subject
I would be glad to invite you to the shop though.
no subject
Is that so? Would it be helpful, perhaps, to have graphic representations of your work to refer to for specialty pieces that you are unable to have more than one made around the shop for practicality?
[ Of course, Yusuke would stop by soon. Perhaps sooner than Rhy expects, honestly. Once Yusuke got something in his head, he did tend to just… show up. ]

[ He’s felt rather untethered since arriving, and he really didn’t know what to do in this place… So why not offer someone assistance? ]
If you provide me with your ideas and your work for reference, I believe I can put together graphic references for you to offer clients who are unsure of what they want or would like to see something before commissioning you.
no subject
[Perhaps he should summon Yusuke so the man could explore the shop and get a feel for the idea of it all.]
Come, join me and I will show you things.

[ And the sound of pencils clinking in a tin is heard as he begins gathering a few things up. Almost belatedly, he reached for the phone and offered a polite nod and farewell before ending the call. ]
I’ll be by shortly then.
[ And true to his word, the teen was entering the shop about a half an hour or so later. He was entering the shop with his large leather satchel resting on his shoulder. Wearing his usual long-sleeved dark purple, gray and black striped top that hung long on his willowy frame and a pair of slim black pants. Eyes first roaming the shop as he entered to take in the sight, curiously looking at the colours and the way the place was arranged, before moving on to look for those working to be directed to Rhy. ]

Welcome!

Good afternoon, sir. The shop is quite lovely, the atmosphere and layout is quite pleasing to look upon. [ Tilting his head at the patterns Rhy was assisting with cutting out. ] I hope I’ve arrived at a good time?
no subject
[He finishes with the scissors and sets them aside.]
I'm going to tell you one thing here and now because it's the most sacred rule here, above all others. If you ever need to cut paper here, tell us. Because you can't use fabric shears for it. Paper ruins shears for fabric.
no subject
I see, then you have my word. I will be mindful of them. Is there somewhere I you would prefer us to set up? Somewhere that a mess might not be a detriment to the fabrics set out.
[ Because pencil shavings/graphite or erasing did tend to spread should he miss a mark and need to adjust something he put to paper as Rhy described it. ]
no subject
[He gestures to where the old time register is set up, a clear counterspace with two stools behind it.]
no subject
[ If they wouldn’t potentially be in the way, then the space would do nicely. Moving over the counter, he pulled out his sketchbook and tin of pencils to set down. Absentmindedly, he flipped the tin open and reached for one in particular while he glanced around thoughtfully at the space again. ]
Do you have any projects you’ve recently completed? I should like to get a feel for the kinds of work you do. That way, I may be a little more capable of putting your designs to paper, as you may be envisioning them.
no subject
[Rhy reaches under the counter and pulls out a vest he had finished just that day.]
A waistcoat for my husband.
[And it's patterned with roses. It's a thing for them.]
no subject
What a lovely pattern? If one is to wear a waistcoat, I’ve always been of the mind that it should have an eye-catching design when they’re so often paired with a solid shade.
[ He’d been eyeing one with a particularly loud geometric diamond design once, had imagined the entire ensemble he’d wear with it… But alas, even as far as his impulse buys went, it had been just a touch out of reach. ]
Does your husband like roses, then?
[ He asked, carefully looking the item over some more. Getting an idea of it’s cut and looking over the stitching. It was a nice vest, certainly, and given Rhy had spoken of vests a couple times, now it seemed like he was getting a feel for the kinds of things the man liked to design. This would actually be a very interesting project to take on, and he could feel his fingers itching to sketch already. ]
no subject
[He does shake his head at the question of roses.]
No, roses are associated with my family. His wearing of them became more common when he partnered with me.
no subject
[ He wondered what other patterns and colours Rhy could work into something. It was hard for him to not be slightly curious. ]
I see, so it’s more of a symbol he has embraced due to your union. What a beautiful thing for two people to share beyond rings or names alone!
[ His tone was a touch dramatic, maybe… But it was a sincere dramatic. ]
no subject
[Oh this young man was a romantic, wasn't he? Rhy approved. A lot.]
You are a quite bright young man.
no subject
[Oh? A compliment instead of suggesting his passionate views and tones were weird? Well, Yusuke practically preened under such things. Rhy was slipping easily into the position of ‘friend’ in his mind at that. ]
That’s kind of you to say? Thank you!
[ He responded with a polite nod, pleased smile on his lips as he tried to not get too distracted from the task at hand. It took him a short while, of course, before he was turning to pad to Rhy for the man to look over. ]
Now, I was thinking about the display of such things you make upon request. The pages could look something like this? Give them an idea of the detail work and angles of the piece, as well as an idea of how it might look on a form.
no subject
Plaids suit him well. Everything suits him well. And this? This is just very nice. To be able to put ideas on paper to explain to people, that is quite the talent. But yes, design things like this could be so useful.
no subject
[ He commented with a pleasant smile. If anything suited this man’s husband, he supposed he must be very striking indeed. Which didn’t seem strange. Rhy was quite well featured as well, if the artist had to describe his new friend. But the compliment on the quick sketch gets a bright smile as he set the pad down. ]
I’m glad you approve! Clothing can be such an interesting challenge to draw, with how it sits and sometimes folds on a human form depending on the cut or materials. I could also offer some splashes of colour, but I believe these may be best in black and white given you have such a large variety of colours and patterns to choose from. I presume they must change over time and season.
[ So colour might out-date things rather quickly, but a nice basic view of the pieces that Rhy could make to help one decide would likely be beneficial to future commissions. ]
But I would be happy to do more for you, in that case, if you find the idea useful!
[ And it would be such an interesting project to keep him busy, it might even give him new ideas as well! ]
no subject
[Oh the young man is very wise, knowing he can't just assume colors.]
Oh yes, styles change quite often. And so this is a wise choice. OFten cuts and other styles change too, but more in the nobility. Practical clothing will always be practical. I would love to see if it would be something you'd enjoy, consulting.
no subject
[ Yusuke responded with a sincere tone, smiling at the comment. ]
I believe that it would be an interesting and thrilling project to take on. As you said, cuts and styles change, so as time passes I can expect new challenges to try to capture. [ A steady flow of possibilities for inspiration, always something new to consider and attempt to capture on paper for the shop. ] So I would be glad for the opportunity to consult. I can do outlines like this sketch based on your requests, and once I have something to your satisfaction, I can provide a cleaned up and tidier final drawing.

[In fact, he thinks it would be very rewarding to, well, collaborate more directly with someone else.]
I should like that. I will have to think about which I like best, that I think will be worth showing off.

[ He responded as he finally closed the sketchpad to slip things back where they belonged so he could let Rhy get to his own work and making decisions so they could move forward with the collaboration. The teen was, after all, quite excited by this new project. ]
no subject
[Rhy chuckles as if this was particularly witty. It's not. This is after all a market shop.]
Good day to you, Yusuke. I'll talk to you when time calls for it.
no subject
[ And Yusuke offered a soft laugh as well. It wasn’t like his sense of humor was a bit… odd, after all. So he could appreciate that. ]
I will look forward to hearing from you! Until then, I must be off.
[ And Yusuke tucked the bag on his shoulder, offering a polite nod in parting before leaving the store behind. Presumably to resume people watching at the market, as usual. ]
