Summer, objectively the worst time of year to be a blacksmith, or worse, a blacksmith's apprentice. One might not think it, but it was true. While the forge was more or less at the same range of temperatures all year long, and that throwing off more heat than the summer sun could, the truth remained that in the other seasons you could walk away and cool down some. That was not true for Lauri-Ell in the summer.

For Forgemistress Gili it was easier, Lauri-Ell believed, for the dwarf admitted she was used to heated in cramped spaces. For Lauri-Ell, whose main experience before this world was service on a climate controlled planet, this was quite the experience. They had come up with a system, though, in the last summer she was employed, and that was in use now. Which was 'minimum public decency while working' attire. Given this was for Lauri-Ell a crop top, shorts, and her leather work apron and gloves, it was definitely both too much and too little all at once. She'd clearly already worked up a sweat, but at least she was getting a break as she was putting a finished peace in a bucket of water to quench.

Which is about when she notices the arrival of customers. Which was a better excuse than most to untie the leather straps from around the back of her neck, let the top half of the apron hang loose, and move away from the fires of the forges to see them.

"Welcome to Bay Blades!"

Hopefully the customer wasn't the sort to be scared off, or distracted, by a woman who was over six and a half feet tall, massively muscled, just this side of scantily clad, and most importantly, blue-skinned. Gili would be upset if she accidentally scared off another customer.

Why shouldn't he be able? Sometimes one can grow after more experience in ways they couldn't when younger.

"Maybe," she says, tilting her head as she considered it. "I suppose it is just not what I am used to."

He nodded. "Competition is good, but maybe they do things like that differently here." Sometimes he wondered what his life would've been like had he passed the Mark of Mastery all of those years ago.

But sometimes he doubted he'd pass with how much he'd done and all of the pain and heartache he'd caused.

"I suppose it is," Lauri-Ell said with a nod. "Well, come see what my mistress can do then, what her competition and skill has wrought."

He nodded. "So everything is for sale then?"

True Terra had no reason to buy anything, but he might do so if he liked something. Maybe he'd even hang it up on his wall or something.

He had been thinking of getting his own place too because he wanted a yard or something to do his keyblade training and the apartment's rooftop was just a pain to navigate sometimes.

"Yes, we do not keep commissioned pieces out to be mistaken for things that could be bought," she answered.

Truly the only thing near the displays that wasn't for sale was her hammer, and that had a small sign that said 'do not touch' because, well, it might shock people.

"Oh you take commissions." Not that he needed one, but it was still good to know. It brought Namine to mind and there had been times he wondered if he did the inheritance ceremony with her if she would've been able to wield it.

Still, with her in mind he decided he would take a look.

"Do you have something like daggers?"

Those he would purchase in case she showed back up.

“Yes, of course we do. Mostly the Forgemistress does, as things that are commissioned tend to be of far greater quality than anything I am capable of creating yet.”

But they also sell what is already prepared, like those pieces out and waiting upon a new master.

Daggers, though, she has quite a bit of. She gestures for him to follow so that she can lead them to a table with a number of them laid out and ready for review.

"Great." Terra replied with a smile. Still, his smile slightly changed to hear her speak of her own capabilities. But here he couldn't really say much other than "I'm sure you'll be getting ready to do good stuff in no time."

And then she was leading him around to see the daggers laid out. It was hard to picture Namine with anything other than a sharp pencil and a fresh pad of drawing paper. But her safety was important and so that had him looking them over pretty carefully.

"They're all really nice."

“I’m glad too,” she said, beaming. This was her pride after all. Coming into this work had been very right for her.

“We keep various ones. Some for eating, some for different sorts of work. But these ones,” she points to a collection, “are for fighting. If you want them for that, we can pick something for your height and style of fighting.”

He followed to where she pointed and he had to pause with a shake of his head. "Oh..uh..they're not for me. They're a gift for someone if they show back up here." And with that he took his hand and put it down to the middle of his stomach.

Terra wasn't sure that Namine would show up and even if she did, if she'd want them. But he wanted to teach her at least how to defend herself until he could come rescue her.

Not for him? Well that's interesting.

"Can you estimate the strength of the person? The size? I could help determine what is suitable with there. I cannot promise it will be perfect."

Terra shook his head. "She's not very strong and she's pretty thin." But then he had to smile. "That's about all I got, but I would need to train her with them."

Hopefully, because he could picture it in his mind.

Not strong, and thing. Yes, that’s an idea. Okay, she selects some smaller blades. Stilettos.

“These are meant to be hidden. They are good for defending one privately.”

Looking at the new blades, well they seemed to be a better fit. So he smiles at them. "Am I allowed to touch them?" Because he'd heard of some places that allowed that and others didn't.

"Of course. To buy a blade without touching it is a problem."

So she gestures for him to take the item and test it in his hand.

"Thanks."

He picked it up and it seemed light enough. That was a concern for him too since Namine was so slight in stature. Terra held it a few different ways and tried to picture her holding onto it.

After a few minutes, he nodded and set it down. "I'll take it."

"Alright," she answered, smiling brightly as she gestured for him to join her by the coffers so she could handle payment.

"Would you like it packaged in any way? And I will of course give you the simple sheathe for it. If you want it done fancier or a belt for it, I can give you information on the leather worker we use."

Terra shook his head. "No, it's fine as it is. But if she comes here, we can get her fitted for something like that."

He wasn't sure she was going to come back, but he definitely wanted to make sure he was ready if she did.

Yes, that is wise. "Good, you should do so if she arrives. This place can be dangerous."

He nodded. "Ya, seems there's even a bit of a rough crowd trying to block the way into the Coliseum sometimes."

And there was no way that Terra would want her to try and even think of facing that on her own.

Block the way? That seems silly.

"Should we see that they are not doing so any more?"

[orangewayfinder]

He shook his head. "They don't do it every day." And then it occurred to Terra that he hadn't tried to notice a pattern because people just moved for him since they saw that he raced.

Maybe one day that would change though.

"Well, then perhaps it is a matter for hte guard," she put to him. "There are outposts for them. It would be wise if they acted in this matter, for they serve as the law here."

As she did not. It would be wrong for her to intervene in most cases.

"The guard." Terra murmured thoughtfully for a moment before looking at Lauri-Ell. "I guess they might be needed up there then at times. It's hard to tell because it's only sometimes that people are like that."

"It might still be worth the telling, so they know to look out for it."

Because if they do not know to look, can they possibly find?
