1. The Arrival - Bump into him all over the city! - OTA
“This an interesting shade…” A tall, willowy young man commented absentmindedly as Raimon made his escape from the many questions that had been thrown at him moments before he handed over the welcome-bag.
It was as though he’d wandered through the looking glass… Which, to be fair, wasn’t really that strange of an idea given the way his life had progressed of late. Still, this… Didn’t look right. It was far different from Tokyo even with just a vague glance, and it certainly wasn’t mementos… At first the teen thought perhaps he’d slipped into a palace- it had happened to him once before after all, but it didn’t have the right… energy.
There were people walking around, people of substance and life. Not shadows, not a representation of how a palace's ruler saw them… Just people going about their daily business. If it weren’t for the setting, one could easily believe there was nothing strange going on. There was, though, and it was puzzling…
But also beautiful, in a way. The aesthetic of this land was somewhere between a historic drama and a fantasy, like out of a video game he’d could imagine a friend of his playing. But it was intriguing, so much so that Yusuke wasn’t really paying attention to where he walked.
He was too caught up in picking out details and perhaps how he’d approach capturing it in a piece… Not smart, no, he should be paying more attention… Or freaking out… And maybe he would, at some point, but even then? The truth would always be stranger than fiction, and he had already accepted the idea of strange worlds other than his own that were beyond understanding.
2. Network Introduction - Audio - OTA
Good afternoon, everyone.
[ A smooth, mannerly tone is heard across the network. A new one, certainly, and this is confirmed a moment later. ]
My name is Yusuke Kitagawa, and I’ve only just arrived this morning. Forgive me for asking questions that I expect most are tired of hearing by now, but I am still trying to work some things about this place out. I have managed to learn a few things around the city, so I will try to limit my inquiries to the necessities.
I’ve heard that there are some rather unpleasant creatures and entities that reside in this city, and I should think that having a means of defense and assisting in defending others would be smart. Is there a preferred weapons dealer in the city, preferably one that would carry or willing to secure a sword of my preference?
[ He wants to get his hands on a katana rather quickly, if he can. No, the teen hadn’t yet considered what that might cost. He’ll figure that out later… as per usual. ]
I’ve also been informed that there are others here who have experience with other worlds and realities than their own, and I confess I’m rather curious to hear about such things. [ Not because he has experience with such things himself. Nope. Not at all. Not him. He’s not hoping one of these people will be someone he knows, even if he hasn’t spotted familiar names on the contact list… But still, from what he’d heard it was worth asking. Yusuke moved on rather quickly to… justify his question. ] You see, I hope that hearing such things will assist me in understanding and being prepared for what I may see or encounter here… And as an artist, I can’t help but wonder what inspiration I might draw from such stories and experiences.
With that out of the way, thank you for any answers you may be so kind as to provide me. I look forward to becoming acquainted with my fellow arrivals.
3. Feed the Artist - Few days after his arrival, the market - OTA
Yusuke was settling in as well as could be expected in this strange world. Better, perhaps, than some who were plucked out of their own lives and dropped into this one. He was at least somewhat familiar with alternate worlds and realities. Monsters and quests and magic weren’t unknown to him, given his time with the Phantom Thieves of Hearts.
What was probably going less well than other arrivals was he didn’t do particularly well when left to his own devices for too long. Yusuke was reasonably mature for his age, even more so than some of his teammates… But the teen did have some flaws that were a bit detrimental to his own health. The first thing the young man had done upon arriving was get carried away with new projects, inspired by the sights in this world and the unique aesthetic and beauty that could be found here. So desperate to move past his art slump, and eager to catch the beauty and the emotions that could be evoked by various sights and settings, he had quickly drained his funds on supplies.
This meant a lack of money for necessities like food and other comforts, but it hadn’t really mattered too much to him when he considered it after the fact. The orphanage provided three meals a day, so he could get food easily enough… The problem was, one had to remember they were hungry and to be mindful of the time to get said meals.
Yusuke was not known for being particularly good at remembering these things. Oftentimes his teammates had to pitch in to offer him something or ask him to stay to have some curry and coffee at Leblanc’s free of charge…
There was no one here to be pester him to take care of himself, though, and so he’d fallen rather easily into old habits. Put other things off for the sake of creating what he hoped would be a masterpiece. Art takes dedication and sacrifice, Yusuke. You want to succeed, don’t you? You want to create a masterpiece worthy of praise, so keep working.
The voice in his head insisted, a lingering mindset he hadn’t put behind him, as his stomach growled loudly from where he was sitting on a bench as he sketched out a scene before him. The scene was of the market, bustling with life and energy. He frowned every so often, brows knitting lightly and muttering about someone moving before he could finish capturing their pose. “Stop moving, please!” He uttered more audibly as he felt the piece slowly falling apart in front of him, desperate to at least finish outlining the scene he wanted to paint. Maybe this wouldn’t be so bad if he hadn’t been struggling with his own focus.
Some annoyed glances were cast in the teen’s direction for speaking up, and for the odd insistence in his tone. He noticed it after the fact and winced as he heard someone call him weird. The insult stung a bit, and he cast a glare in their direction on instinct. But he was reminded of a moment with the phantom’s leader when someone asked them to not be rude and to be mindful of those around them. Right… He was being rude again… But did no one understand he was trying to capture something beautiful? The energy and simple joys of life, even in the simplest moment of picking up food for meals with your loved one or looking at gifts, supporting passionate craftsman selling their wares.
For Enis
Yusuke blinked, realizing she was trying to explain the concept to him, so he offered a smile from under his mask and shook his head lightly. “Oh, no, I do know the definition of the word quite well, but thank you. I suppose I was only amused by the idea of it.” The particular irony to the idea, he supposed, though it didn’t cross his mind to explain. He was too distracted by the whispers and the woman standing before him who seemed to have answers.
“Clearly more than I was informed of when I arrived earlier…” He murmured thoughtfully, eyes wandering for a moment to the shadows again. “You’re right, of course, teamwork would be ideal when facing an unknown in the dark…” And all of this was terribly unknown compared to the strange places he was already used to. “But I’m not exactly alone, am I?” He said, more to himself than to Enis. He meant Goemon, of course, but she could take him to mean that she was there now as well.
Still, he would be smarter to not wander until he had a weapon of sorts for the occasion that calling upon an ice spell with Goemon would be foolhardy and potentially damaging to a small space. Folding his arms, one resting under his chin as he did his best to ignore the incessant sounds in the night as he opened his mouth to continue asking her about the ‘things that went bump in the night.’
But then the light catching in her eyes distracted him. “Like illuminated jewels… Such a mysterious air. I should like to capture it on canvas.” He commented with distraction, probably without the lead up that one should to suggesting such a thing, but he was blunt and to the point as ever. Thought too much of art and never considered how his words might sound.
For Mitsuru
“No… I expect that answers aren’t about to be spread out on a table for us to pick through like at a buffet, either.” Things were never so easy, and with the way this was all turning out… Even if a buffet would be nice. Both one of information and food, now that he thought about it.
“Most people are complicated in general, I think. Hard to figure out… And never what you think they are based on first impressions.” Or they were, but they were more than their first impressions and should not be lumped into a trait alone. The amount of blunders from making such assumptions was a bit steep on his part, he supposed in hindsight. “Had it been a while since you’d seen him, even before here?” Perhaps that was why it was complicated, now that he thought about it. If it was the case, then all the better that they had the chance to meet here… right? A chance to reconnect, and some comfort in an unfamiliar world and situation where things seemed very uncertain to him after only a few hours here.
What would he ask them if he could talk to them? A great many things, Yusuke supposed, if they weren’t anyone he knew… But if he ended up knowing said person somehow, perhaps the questions would be different. Best to keep those thoughts separate, the teen realized, to avoid… complicating things. Playing oblivious and unknowledgeable. That was more fitting, and he expected most of his team would agree. “I’d want to ask them more about this other reality they’ve been to… To find out if there are any similarities between that one and this?” He placed his hand under his chin, nodding slightly as he continued. “I suppose I’d also want to ask about these creatures tied to human emotions. Sounds rather…” Familiar. “Fanciful, and hard to not ponder over what that means and what they might be like.”
Yusuke hadn’t really considered his question might be a difficult one to answer. Even when she paused and seemed to break off her sentence midway for a few moments, it left him a little puzzled. He opened his mouth to ask what was wrong, when she continued instead and his mouth closed again and he tilted his head thoughtfully. For someone her age, the teen guessed a few years older than him at most, being in charge of the entire Kirijo Group would be an enormous responsibility and weight… The expectations placed upon someone in her position were probably more difficult than he could understand, really… “I see… That is quite the responsibility.” So he offered her a careful nod. “I believe you make a good point, though I hadn’t thought of it. It isn’t as though we’ve brought more with us to this world than our memories, talents and a few meager belongings… Simply people with pasts that hold no bearing here.”

She does have experience making weapons.
[He himself had purchased his own katana and that was another fact he'd bring up..]
There's a shop run by the little gnome that you received your satchel through. With some coins earned, you could go to his shop and purchase weapons or armor. But you're very welcome for the information. No one has all of the answers for this place, but if you stay on, maybe someone will have the same questions that you do.
[As a sort of pay it forward kind of thing.]
And practice is always a good idea. I'm sure you'll find someone to train with before long.
[Because he would undoubtedly need it, but Yuki wasn't going to disclose that.]
Then I shall have to have a word with her about having something made. What part of this city might she be found?
[ He needed to get familiar with the place, really. It was so different from Tokyo, and his first day had largely been spent getting quite distracted by the setting and the people than learning which way was what.
At the mention of the gnome, Yusuke frowned lightly. That man ran a shop? What was his customer service like if he was keen to hurry away from new arrivals without warning?? Rude, in the teen’s opinion… No, he would much rather see this Lauri-Ell person about a sword than speak to Raimon again for a while.
But at the mention of coins earned… The artist stares at his canvas thoughtfully. ]
Earned… I suppose I shall have to find gainful employment of some sort in order to purchase such things.
[ He could sell his paintings. He should do that. What else was he going to do with them here? He had not heard of a gallery and he had no space of his own to display them… But... It was complicated. ]
Practice makes perfect, I’ve heard said… Something proven as I’ve worked on my art over the years. So I agree, I’ll have to add that to my list of things to do once I’ve figured a few other things out.
[ A few more strokes of the brush, and the artist absentmindedly realized he still didn’t know who the person he was speaking to even was. ]
My apologies, but I don’t believe I’ve caught your name?
[Yuki smiled, knowing that was the way he originally located her. And at hearing the part about work, he nodded.]
Whatever you did at home for work, most things seem to be in place here even if they're a little..archaic.
[And wait? Did he just hear right?]
If you paint, then that might be a good chance for you to display your work somewhere. There's a bunch of little shops in the main market area.
[That last part got him to smile.]
I'm sorry, I'm being rude. My name is Sohma Yuki, it's nice to meet you.
[ Yusuke was grateful for the help. This would be quite helpful in adjusting to all of this and being ready for whatever strangeness this world threw at him. Though he paused awkwardly at the suggestion, his brush stilling over the canvas. ]
Truthfully, I’ve never had a job in the traditional sense. I was a student at Kosei High on a fine arts scholarship, and my… [ A pause, trying to think of how to phrase it. Sensei? Father figure…? He still wasn’t sure how to refer to the man now that he could see the truth and was free of him, it was complicated. ] under advisement of someone who’s care I was in before, I thought of little else aside from art.
[ But the leader of the phantoms had many part-time jobs to support their cause. Surely he could find something he could do here? Perhaps it would even be good for him to grow…
The teen perked up slightly to hear that there may be places that would like to display his artwork. Even if he was… uncertain about selling his work, the idea that he might be able to provide some beauty to a place and have his work seen and inspire was a lovely idea. ]
Really? I should ask around, in that case. I would be happy to have my work displayed and enjoyed as it was meant to be. I fear I’ll run out of space to store things at my current lodgings.
[ An orphanage with shared living spaces meant he would run out of the room quite quickly.
Yusuke finally lowered the brush and set it aside to turn and look back at the phone’s screen properly. The apology or notion that Yuki had been rude is lost on the teen as he realized that by the name it was very likely this person was also from Japan… And because he was rather blunt, honest, and prone to asking questions? He doesn’t really hesitate to ask.]
Sohma Yuki… By your name, would I be correct in assuming you arrived in this world from Japan as well? I lived in Tokyo, before I found myself here.
There's a lot of little shops, most of the people are pretty nice there.
[At least the ones he went to anyway. And then he heard the question he'd been wondering about and smiled.]
Yes I'm from Japan as well. I lived near Tokyo, on the outskirts in a rural place. We had a school field trip to Kyoto in the Autumn.
It meant the teen had very little life experience or marketable skills outside his art as yet, since he’d only just broken the cycle he’d been stuck in. ]
Yes, most people that I’ve met thus far have been quite pleasant to speak and deal with. I hadn’t considered asking if any would be willing to display my work, though… It might be a nice way to repay kindness if they want something beautiful for their clientele to look upon.
[ Yusuke sounded quite delighted by this turn of events, though. It was a comfort in a way to know there were people here he could speak to who would at least know of the world he’d come from. Someone to connect with and enjoy the familiarity that some conversations might bring. ]
Kyoto is truly a beautiful sight to behold in the autumn! I had the good fortune to be provided with an opportunity to paint a scene there just a few years ago during some downtime when I was brought along to assist with an art showing. I hope to return one day, perhaps during other seasons as well.
[ His tone took on a slightly dreamy quality at that, wistful and hopeful for such a chance. ]
[Yuki was showing interest here and yet some part of him inwardly cringed at his questions, hoping they weren't too invasive or personal. He just had no experience with anything of this nature and didn't know much about it at all. But he figured no one would have a problem with having him display the art, at least not the people he knew. Of course he knew there were others he didn't k now or know so well but it couldn't hurt to ask he figured. The worst they might do is just say no.
He too was intrigued someone was from Japan. Jacob knew of Japan but was from the United States, which was fine.]
So you painted the trees? Or..well there was a lot of deer there. But then they had the temples there too.
I have, yes. I don’t like to limit myself to specific styles or subjects. Flowers are often a rather pleasing subject to paint, really. I appreciate a nice full arrangement, with the colours complimenting each other well. [ A fond smile crossed his face as he continued. ] I had been working on a piece based on an arrangement in a lovely basket a friend gave to me recently, before I arrived here.
I did. There were so many lovely shades to capture. A small temple was nestled across a bridge among them. It was quiet peaceful. [ Yusuke considers something for a moment, before he pulled out the phone from his own world to flip through the small collection of pictures he kept on it. Spotting the one he’d been speaking of in question, he turned the phone to display a photograph of the painting for Yuki. Even if it was small between two phone screens, it was clearly as described. ] Unfortunately, I didn’t have the luck to see any deer that day, though I think they would have been a nice addition to the piece.
[ Perhaps if he was able to go back, one day, they might make an appearance for him. ]
(ooc: Finding a filter to turn photos into oil paints is a WIN)
That sounds great, but you didn't get to bring it here, right?
[And then his eyes got really wide as he saw the sample of what Yusuke was saying here.]
Wow! That's really beautiful work! You could sell something that here and make money with no problem!
But he was practically beaming at the praise offered for his piece. It felt good, after all, to hear someone speak well of something you had done that you were passionate about. Doubly so to be able to openly show his art as his own to others. ]
Thank you, that’s very kind of you to say. I feel confident in saying you must have a very good eye for beauty. Perhaps I can get your opinion again in the future. [ He didn’t have his usual go to for opinions after all, and he valued honest opinions… Even if the less positive ones could garner a more dramatic and despondent reaction from him.
Though Yusuke hesitated somewhat at the idea of selling his work for money. It was a very… complicated feeling. He should sell his work for practicality, after all. He needed to make money to afford both supplies and necessities… And it would be the easiest way for him to earn a living. But it also bothered him deeply to make his art about money at all after what had happened… After finally seeing the ugly side of the art world and his mentor, he was truly afraid of falling into that himself same ugliness. ] I will… keep that in mind, though I will be happy enough if my work at least inspires thoughts and evokes feelings as art is meant to. I will enjoy the chance to bring such beauty to the spaces would like it.
Yuki was happy though that Yusuke seemed so pleased and that made him happy.]
If you want, I can definitely let you know.
[He nodded to what was said here and he smiled.]
I can at least give you plenty of plants and flowers to draw. There's nice views here of trees too, especially in the Winter time when they're covered with leaves or snow.
Thank you, I would be quite happy to have your opinion! I have a few ideas for things I’d like to work on already. Even now, once this piece is a little further, I think.
[ Yusuke tilted his head at the canvas before shaking his head. No, it wasn’t ready for viewing yet. It just needed a little more time… And focus. The sounds of children in the background could get a little distracting at times. ]
You can? [ He tilted his head curiously at the phone screen again, brows rising lightly. ] Do you tend to a garden, then? Or are you perhaps working at a shop that makes those easily accessible? A friend of mine did, and he always had nice recommendations when I wanted some.
[ Yuki would honestly be lucky if Yusuke didn’t ask him to model. The teen was keen on having live references, after all. ]
I presume I’ve just missed the winter months, if the weather and growing greenery are anything to go by? A pity, I’m rather fond of the cooler months myself, and there’s something beautiful about how light hitting freshly fallen snow can illuminate everything. I’ll look forward to it, should I still be here by the winter.
[ Yeah… Yusuke was definitely more of a winter-loving sort. Perhaps it had something to do with his persona, or perhaps his persona had ice abilities because of his own preferences. They were strange things, and he couldn’t say for certain. ]

But Yusuke's questions had him nodding.]
I do have a garden with a friend of mine here. But I'm thinking we should move it so people have more access to it if needed. Another friend of mine owns it.
[It was a little weird to refer to Aerith as a friend but it was the quickest way to refer to her he supposed. But he just happily nodded along about the Winter because he loved the colder temperatures himself, having told Miss Honda that in a sideways sort of way when she expressed how she loved the Summer.]
If you're still here by then I promise you'll get to see plenty of snow.
That’s wonderful! Perhaps you’d be so kind as to show me both at some point? But I will be happy for any blooms you may like to recommend, should the mood strike me to paint some.
[ Flowers were an excellent subject to use when trying to practice techniques or warm up the creativity when one felt a bit stuck. To see a garden in a setting like this, though… That might inspire as well, and there was something rather gentle and calming about garden shops. The shop their leader worked at even had such an atmosphere, even in the underground mall. ]
In that case… Should the fates have decided my time here is to be that extensive, I will look forward to seeing it, Sohma-san.

OF course, and I'm sure we can find a place for you to sit. And if you want, I can show you all those trees at the Hunting Lodge. It might be a bit to walk..but I can see if we can find a chocobo chariot.
[Because Yuki wasn't sure how Yusuke was going to feel about riding a bird. But for the other he smiled again.]
Well we'll see, but I can at least try to help do what I can.
[ Oh, Yusuke’s expression shifted to a surprised and curious thing at the idea of riding a chocobo chariot. He had ridden in a… cat… bus…? truck…? Morgana??? He’d ridden in strange transportation methods before. The problem was, Yusuke did tend to get motion sickness. Morgana had warned him against being sick inside, though. So he’d done his best to manage the symptoms. ] I suppose that might be practical, yes. I’ve seen these strange chocobo creatures around. They’re quite unique compared to horses. If a chariot would be the easiest way to get places, I will gladly make use of such transportation.
[ And hope that it was about the same kind of ride that he managed to get used to with Morgana. ]
And for that, I am grateful. Hopefully, I can return the kindness that your assistance one day.

[He's not sure what other assistance he can offer but he was trying. But at hearing the bit about the chocobo carriage, he nodded.]
They're not bad, and maybe in time you can learn to ride one yourself if you want. I learned from a man named Cloud. But that's something you can do eventually.
[There was a nod and a smile at the last set of words.]
I was told when I said something like that, to just repay it to someone else who may come in who's new.
[Hopefully that helped.]

[ He considered the idea of learning to ride a chocobo. It did seem quite practical. Especially if one were to travel long distances… It would have to be something he kept in mind for the future. Once he got a better idea of how far things were in this place from each other. ]
I will certainly keep the idea in mind. Thank you, Sohma-san.
[ Repay one person’s kindness by showing it to someone else who arrived? Yusuke smiled a little at that. What a lovely idea. ]
I rather like the sounds of that. I shall endeavor to pay the kindness forward should I run into another person who’s just arrived.
[Video]/wrap?
[This made him happy to do, to be able to pay the kindness back that he'd received when he first showed up. And so he nodded to the other's acknowledgement.]
I've found that it really helps and you're welcome Kitagawa-san.
[Video] Sure thing
As much as I’ve enjoyed our conversation, I believe that I must return to my current project. I look forward to meeting you in person one day, though, Sohma-san. Please have a pleasant afternoon.
[ He added in parting, with a small smile and polite nod before picking up his brush again to return to painting. ]
