[Video] Backdated to the 26thish

[ Mono was feeling more than a little anxious at the moment. He’d even slipped his bag on today because it just felt... more secure. No one can see that he’s scared, right? Because With all the talk of what was going on in the city right now... It was a bit scary.

Especially since he couldn’t find one of his favourite people. He had something important to tell Illyana, but she wasn’t anywhere to be found!

Forgive the constant hiss of static and the crackles. He can’t help that. ]

Um... Has anyone seen Illyana? I got something to tell her and I can’t find her anywhere.

[ Listen, even the child knows that maybe it’s not that weird considering she could teleport... But it’s been a few days, and... ]

And I know she could just be back in her Limbo place, but I think this is hers??

[ Why yes, after disappearing from the video feed for a moment, Mono returned holding Illyana’s soul sword. ]

It’s kinda weird that it’s not with her, right? I kinda stumbled on it? I dunno where it came from since she's not around.

[ So, yes, the kid is worried. As many know, Mono is quite attached to the woman and her imp companions. ]

I’m gonna keep looking, but if anyone knows where she is, can you tell me?

... Thanks.

[ The feed cuts abruptly. Mono isn’t really good at these things. ]

Yeah, it was really loud. Even in the Pale City, storms like that didn’t happen much…

[ Admittedly, Mono hadn’t liked it. Even if he was braver than most children? It had been… A little unsettling, and the gloominess it cast on his apartment in the gray building had been unpleasant. ]

But maybe?? If it wasn’t a normal storm, maybe something happened to people who were in it? Do you know if anyone else was in it?

Ya, I heard it.

[And it had frightened him but he wasn't going to talk about that. Something about the storm seemed unnerving and unnatural to his ears. So he had wrapped himself up as tightly as he could in his blankets, trying his ass off not to call Jacob to come over.]

No, I don't know anyone who was in it. But hopefully it doesn't come around again, it seemed really loud. Even if Illyana was in it, I would think she would've found shelter, because there's plenty here.

[He tried to keep his tone light so as to not alarm Mono. But the storm itself had reminded him very uncomfortably of the night before he found Jacob and Caelan had passed.]

Yeah, she’s really smart and strong… So she probably would make sure to go inside when the storm got really bad.

[ He says this in a tone that was clearly more to convince himself. ]

But if she didn’t get caught in the storm, then I really dunno what might’ve happened…

[ The child hadn’t really considered death as a possibility yet, because he had a hard time imagining anyone killing Illyana. She was so powerful! It had to be something else; he was sure… ]

Well I would think she would.

[But then Mono seemed to keep worrying which he would do the same in the boy's position.]

I don't know, but we'll keep looking for her. And hey if you want to, we can go look for her together.

[This was another attempt to lift the other's spirits.]

You will?? Thanks! [ Mono paused for a minute, the static filling the silence while he considered something. ] Maybe with more people it’ll be easier to find her! Like more people’s eyes means less chance of missing stuff I might’ve before.

Of course.

[Yuki wasn't sure of her himself, but if Mono cared about her, that's what was most important here really. Kind of like he wasn't ever sure about Miss Honda's two friends Uotani and Hanajima but for her sake he tried to get along with them. And he did share Dango with the latter after yelling at the cat for being his usual idiot self around Miss Honda in Kyoto. So there was a precedent here and he nodded.]

If she's here, then I'm sure we'll find her.

Yeah, you're right. We just gotta keep looking… I just haven’t found the right place.

[ Mono nodded, again trying to convince himself that his friend wasn’t just gone. And if something bad had happened, he would work really hard to get her back. Just like with Six in his world. He’d get her back too, one day, and for now he would focus on Illyana to not let her down either. ]

Okay, so when did you want to meet up and where?

[If Mono wanted to wait until tomorrow or whatever, Yuki was fine with that. And if he was with the kid he could keep a look out for him too.]

[ Mono didn’t really consider ‘when,’ because the sooner he got back to looking for his friend, the better. The where was trickier, though, because the boy wasn’t sure where to look next. ]

I looked around the market and the alleys around there and haven’t found her yet… I haven’t looked down near the docks if you wanna look there with me when you’re not working?

[ Mono hadn’t checked the docks or the shops and forges around there, nor had he looked in the sewers… Probably best that the boy be discouraged from checking the sewers though, so company to keep an eye on him would be smart. ]

I'm off right now, if you want to look. I'll just stop at my place first if you want to meet me there or we can meet at the docks, whichever works for you.

[And if it got dark, Yuki wanted to make sure he had his katana on him. He's only ever used it in training so far, but he didn't know if Mono had any way to protect himself or not, and he himself wasn't going to bet on it.]

Okay! I’m closer to your building, so I’ll meet you there!

[ He had wanted to make sure Illyana’s sword was stashed away in a safe place until they found her. It seemed too important to just leave lying around. So it didn’t take the boy long to find his way to the blue building, sitting on the steps outside while he waited for Yuki to join him. ]

Oh..okay!

[Yuki practically broke into a run and made it home in record time. Haru was bedded down at the local chocobo stable so he could socialize with others of his own kind. And slowed down once he was in view of the apartment. There was Mono just waiting outside and Yuki breathed a sigh of relief.]

I hope you weren't waiting long!

[ Mono looked up when Yuki approached the building, getting to his feet quickly and waving and going to meet his friend. ]

Nope! I just got here a little while ago, I wanted to make sure I hid Illyana’s sword good so it was safe.

Good plan.

[Yuki figured the kid didn't get much praise, so hey there was some. But he got his key out and let Mono in first, taking a look behind him before closing and locking the door.]

I've got some fresh turkey sandwiches in the refrigerator if you want some while you wait on me. I've got horchata in there too, water, milk and some apple juice I bought off of a farmer in the market yesterday.

[Might as well try and keep the boy occupied while he grabbed his sword.]

[ Mono wasn’t about to say no to a snack, even if he wasn’t that hungry, thanks to the worry he was feeling. In his world you ate when you had the opportunity, because you didn’t know when you’d get to next. Even if this world wasn’t like that, it was unlikely that he’d ever leave that mindset behind entirely. ]

Turkey sandwiches sound good, thanks Yuki! I like apples, too, so apple juice sounds good.

[ The boy did pause though, since he hadn’t heard of one of those things before. ]

What’s horchata?

[ Another funny word he didn’t know! ]

[Turning back to Mono as he had his sword in his hand, he set it down and off to the side before looking back at the boy with a smile.]

It's a drink that Lauri-Ell introduced me to. It's a sweet tasting drink and I'd never heard of it before she mentioned it, but it's plentiful in the market place. So try some, and if you don't like it, it's okay.

[And then Yuki turned back to secure his sword.]

[ It was sweet? Mono’s head tilted with a rather eager curiosity. Even from under the bag, it was radiating off of him in waves. The kid had a hell of a sweet tooth… ]

That sounds good, I’ll try it then!

[ He commented, before letting his friend get back to gathering his things. He hadn’t known that Yuki had a sword too. It seemed like a lot of people in this world did. Made him wish he could find something he could use, other than borrowing things around the city. ]

Okay!

[Yuki was still adjusting his sword and had placed it above his bed where he could easily get it if needed. He wished he had sensei's conviction or Jacob's determination. But he just wanted to keep Mono safe as well as any other innocents, such as the night the beast had raged and took Jacob and Caelan's lives.

He couldn't let anything happen to Mono or Jacob. He believed Nida sensei would be fine as long as he stuck to Mister Ignis' side so he wasn't a concern, nor was Lauri-Ell. But he shook off the memories and walked into Mono helping himself to the horchata. And all he could do was smile.

This boy was definitely worth protecting.]

Do you like it?

[ Mono ended up getting pretty absorbed in the snack and trying this new drink while Yuki was getting his things together for their search. Munching away, he looked up a minute or two later expectantly as he wondered if Yuki was ready to go. The kid was enjoying getting to try new stuff, and company helped, but Mono couldn’t quite shake the worry he was feeling.

Still, he managed a brighter tone at the question. ]

Yeah, it’s actually pretty good!

[ And he’d never had anything like it before, which was pretty exciting. Every time he thought he had tried all the new stuff he could possibly find, there was something new! ]

Good.

[Yuki was now ready with his gear, and had done a change of clothes too. But he didn't try and draw attention to it and went to the cupboard to grab himself a glass. Pouring some of the horchata into it, he took a sip and smiled.]

This stuff is really good.

[ Mono tilted his head curiously. ] Wow, you look all official for stuff!

[ Because, really, the kid hadn’t expected Yuki to change as well as get a sword. The boy had a lot to learn. ]

Yeah, it’s got a funny name, but it’s really tasty stuff. Thanks for letting me try a new thing, Yuki, and the sandwiches were good too.

[His face turned slightly red at hearing Mono's assessment. But fortunately the boy changed the topic.]

I'm glad you ate. But I do have money in case anything's open and we get hungry on the way, so just let me know.

[Anything to avoid his clothes as a topic.]

Yeah? Thanks, Yuki, searching around might make us hungry again.

[ Mono was easy enough to distract, after all. So he seemed pretty keen to get out and start looking around. The boy was pretty sure the sandwiches would keep him full for a while at least. ]

Right.

[There was a smile for Mono's sake although Yuki himself still wondered how tough things would actually get. But he had faith in the lessons he'd received from Shishou back home and from Nida sensei here. Saying nothing, he turned to look at Mono now.]

Are you ready to head out then?

Yeah, I’m all ready if you are!

[ The boy hadn’t really considered needing anything in his searching since he didn’t really have anything to get to take with him. Illyana’s sword was hidden away safely and now all the child wanted was to find his friend. So he gave Yuki a determined nod in response to the question. ]
