[ ONE ] Arrival

Who; Mitsuru + You
What;Arrival and wandering around the city+narrow escape from tonberries
Where; The residential buildings, market, the cemetery
When; 23rd and throughout the week
Warnings; Will update if any come up.

A. 23rd Residential Buildings

The young woman hasn't had a chance yet to replace her school uniform. There's a slight bit of awkwardness in her mannerisms about that, made most apparent by the way she seems to keep her arms wrapped around herself. Almost as if she thinks she can disappear into herself by doing that. Of course nothing is quite that simple. In the back of her mind she keeps telling herself that there's no need for awkwardness. After all, back home on a Saturday juts like this she'd be traveling through a sea of other students in their uniforms. This isn't home though and she can't help but feel like the uniform just makes her stand out.

There's not too much she can do about that particular fact at the moment though and her mind wanders quickly to the vastness of the situation at hand. Nothing about this place is similar to anything she's ever seen before. She holds the red key as she looks up at the buildings trimmed with their different colors.

"Green, Blue, Gray and," she looks down at hers, "Red. What does it mean? Why are we being categorized like this?"

B. 24th Market District

The market was like absolutely nothing Mitsuru had ever seen before and there was no denying that it was overwhelming. There were things Mitsuru needed though and so she'd made a list and headed out. The list was something she was clinging to as she walked through the open-air market with an icy expression that revealed nothing of her inner thoughts about the place. At least she was quite good at hiding her emotions, which hopefully meant that she wouldn't need to worry about embarrassing herself too much here.

In order to further avoid the potential for embarrassment she also seemed to be doing her best to avoid people in general. All of her attention seemed focused on her list and the various stalls and buildings. Nothing about this place seemed to make sense and she would even go so far as to say it looked like nobody actually planned the layout. Honestly, that in itself was a little frustrating. Frankly, it was just poor design. That wasn't something she needed to get distracted by though. She needed to be focusing on the list and trying to get out of here as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, the ever important list slipped from her hand and went flying off away from her.

"Come back here right now," she commanded. Because certainly commanding a piece of paper would work.

C. 24th Just Outside the Cemetery just as it's getting dark
Artemisia had noticed something just as the sun was starting to set. From the brief whisper that came into her mind she couldn't quite figure out what she was sensing. The most logical thing to do here would be to contact Shinjiro and have some sort of backup before she attempted anything. However, she wasn't really thrilled with the idea of getting Shinjiro involved in something dangerous immediately after their mutual arrival here. It was selfish of her, deep down she truly did know that, but everyone could be selfish sometimes. She justified going forward alone as something she needed to do. She'd been the one to sense it and it would make more sense for her to put herself in danger than to let someone else do it for her.

Wasn't it amazing how someone could justify something in their own head?

It was easy enough to locate the hooded figure as it rounded a corner. All she could catch a glimpse of at the moment was it's heavy brown robe from the back. From a distance it looked to be a fairly decent size, perhaps around four feet in height? She couldn't quite tell, which only compelled her to try to get closer to it. She continued after it, using Artemisia to keep track of it every time it sped up around a corner. Eventually it stopped attempting to flee just outside what appeared to be a cemetery. It wasn't somewhere she'd been yet, though it wasn't as though she was too familiar with anything here as of yet.

When the creature turned around she steeled itself against it's hollow eyes. It reminded her considerably of a shadow and yet she knew that wasn't what it was. A terror began to prick at the back of her mind and instinctively she reached for the Evoker on her belt. She brought the gun to her head and pressed (making quite a sight for anyone to stumble upon).

"I command thee," she shouted with an authoritarian voice. With an explosion the Persona appeared hovering slightly above her.The creature began to shuffle closer to her, closing the gap to where it was almost close enough to touch. With a flourish of her own rapier she pointed Artemesia forward to attack as she quickly maneuvered backwards. A flurry of ice like daggers formed in from of Persona and then cascaded into the green skinned creature in front of her. It stumbled back allowing for more distance between the two of them. The terror that had only been prickling at her mind had started to push down the closer it got.

To make matters worse she was fairly certain she was sensing another somewhere nearby. This was not a battle that she should be taking, though a part of her did want to stay to finish it off. She stole a glance back and noticed that it was slowly getting back up on it's feet and heading her way. She needed to make a choice. Flee or stay.

In the end she chose something in between. Her goal now was to gather intel. Unfortunately, her Persona was a bit more geared towards combat than support, which meant her scanning took longer than Yamagishi would have. This ended up leaving her slightly vulnerable to the growing sense of dread and anguish that the creature seemed to dredge up the closer it got. Perhaps flee would have been the better choice.

“You must really like being organized.” Mono responded, dark eyes widening a bit. He hadn’t really expected such a thought out answer, really. She definitely spoke a little like some of the other adults around here, kind of complicated compared to what he was used to… But it was a good kind of complicated. At least they could talk and stuff.

Mono looked a little confused by her insistence, but he guessed if she really wanted to, then he should probably let her… Right? It would be kind of mean of him to keep saying no, especially when she was already new here and probably trying to get used to things. So he shrugged and focused on the question. Time was something he’d gotten a lot better of tracking thanks to having a job and stuff. “I guess I’ve kinda been here a while? I got here over a year ago.”

Mono squinted. He heard other adults phrase things like that… But it just seemed like a fancy way of saying she liked to be organized. But he had meant it was a good thing, of course. Just a weird good thing that he was trying to be better at these days too, even if he wasn’t always sure how… But lists were a good start, thus Mono was very pro lists.

“Yeah, there’s people that’ve been here even longer than me, though!” The kid confirmed, knowing that it sounded pretty unreal, and hoping that she didn’t think he was telling fibs or making that up. “No one’s found a way to go home yet. It’s kinda random like that? Sometimes people arrive and they’re only here for a little while, and then other people are here for a really long time.” He supposed a year was starting to seem like a long time… He was okay with being here, among people with faces and kind words, even if he knew he needed to go back to save his friend and fix things.

It helped, of course, that someone had already told him when people went home it was to right when they left. Or… Maybe help wasn’t the right word, considering the situation he’d been plucked out of. “They kinda don’t really care about that, I think… But someone told me we all go back to right when we left? So I guess no one’s really missing stuff.”

“I didn’t say it was. I just wasn’t sure if you would believe me since not everyone believes kids and other people might be able to say, so you know it’s true.” He responded with a small frown. Maybe her not believing him would’ve been better, considering her reaction. The kid wasn’t sure, and it wasn’t like he was… good at this. Better at it than when he arrived, sure, but still not the best.

Mono shook his head a little as she continued. “I guess not, but that’s just what I know, and some people seem to think it makes it easier.” The child wasn’t really sure he could be much help in the whole comfort department, at any rate. Retrieving lost things was easy, but everything else? Not so much.

That seemed to warm the boy to her a little, sometimes doubt was an adults default. Most of those who arrived here weren’t like that, but… You never knew when someone would be. As Mitsuru continued to explain, his trust in her grew. It was sad, of course, that she had some experience with other adults being less trustworthy… but it meant she kind of understood a little better than some others did. “Adults are bad in your world too? That sucks.” He learned that word from someone else, and it seemed to fit how he felt about it. “They’re bad in my world too, and a lot of other people’s worlds got bad adults too.”

He tapped his chin lightly, little eyes scrunching a bit as he tried to think of what this person might find useful. “I guess the thing I learned first was that even if we got homes, you gotta find work so you can pay for stuff you need.” That hadn’t been easy. Being a child had limited his options. He was lucky that Tommy had hired him and a lot of other children to carry letters and stuff. “Oh! And even if the people in charge kinda make a lot of stupid mistakes, if the guard people send out a warning, then it’s probably really bad.”
monochromatically: (I dunno)

[personal profile] monochromatically 2022-05-01 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
“Oh… What did they do?” Mono asked, only realizing after the fact that he might not want to know after the things he’d seen adults do in other worlds during the crystal rains. It tended to make him quite angry on behalf of other people who’d been wronged by adults. Even if he couldn’t do much about it, it was something to wonder about. A similarity to his world, even if it was only in one way.

The boy paused though, dark eyes widening a bit when she continued. “Wait, are you not grown up?” The boy asked, as if everyone taller/older than him must be an adult. Silly child, really.

Mono fussed with his hat a little, listening as she explained her work experience. “What kinda specialized things?” Because it seemed to him that there were a lot of empty spaces in the city or in businesses. Maybe she could fill one of them? Maybe he could help her find something! That would be a good way to help someone new, right? The boy might have been getting ahead of himself, but he was prone to it.

“Sometimes they put a curfew thing in place, and they handle some of it? But a lot of the time they ask the people in the city that know how to fight monsters to help make a group to fight a thing too!” Mono knew a couple people who had, at least. He hadn’t been involved himself, which was probably for the better… Plus, he was pretty sure the adults wouldn’t let him if he tried.
monochromatically: (It’s just me)

[personal profile] monochromatically 2022-05-11 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
“Okay… I don’t like talking about the bad stuff adults do, either.” The child responded, since he wasn’t sure what she meant by burdening him in the first place. It just seemed to him like she probably didn’t want to talk about it, or at least that seemed how people who were older than him acted about that stuff.

Unfortunately, as Mitsuru continued, the child started to feel more and more lost in his attempt to understand if she was an adult or not. She used a lot of words like adults did, way more words than he knew… Like what were investiment decisions? Manufacturing? What was a multinational trading company? His expression was scrunched up again as he tried to work out a vague idea of what most of it meant…

In the end? It just made her sound more like an adult and less like a kid. But she seemed to be suggesting she wasn’t really that old? “So…” He started, still looking a bit perplexed. “You’re kinda both? Like you know a bunch of adult stuff that I don’t know, but you’re not a really old adult either.” Was that right? Was he getting it? Mono hoped so, anyway, because she seemed pretty nice, like most of the other adults around here, and he hoped she didn’t think he was stupid or anything for not getting it.

Mono had to agree that she was right. It was honestly really weird that the people who were brought here tended to be the ones that needed to get rid of the monsters whenever they arrived. “Yeah, I don’t think a lot of people came from here instead of people like us know what to do with the bad things.” Even outside the bad things, Mono wasn’t really sure what he was here for most of the time.

“So you just sound like an adult.” He nodded, seeming to think he understood this better now. “I bet you could trick the real adults easy.” He added, as though that might be useful to her somehow. Mono wished he could trick the adults sometimes, just because they were always telling him that some of the things he was used to dealing with were things he should go to adults about. Even if this world was different, it wasn’t advice that would be smart to follow in his world!

Though at her question, Mono shrugged with a little shake of his head. “Nah, not really. Everyone here’s pretty nice, so it doesn’t matter if you’re an adult or not.” She was just kinda lumped into the ‘new friend’ category while he tried to decide what kind of friend she might be.

“I dunno? I guess they’d just die.” Very blunt for a child, perhaps, but it just made sense to the boy. “Or maybe they’d learn to stop the bad stuff… But sometimes people don’t know what to do and they just stop trying to do stuff at all and let it happen.” Which seemed pretty normal as far as his world went. People could only handle so much before they gave up… So maybe part of the reason they were all here was so no one would? Kinda like they were inspiring them to do better and helping to make up for the stuff they couldn’t do themselves yet? Mono wasn’t sure though, so he didn’t voice it.

Mono, for all his own lacking social skills, still felt bad when he heard people sounding down or disappointed for various reasons. And if she didn’t have a lot of experience with people her age either, then sounding like an adult wasn’t really her fault. Not that he had meant it in a bad way, it was more than a lot of it sounded kind of odd or he didn’t know what some of the things she’d talked about were. “Oh.. If it makes ya feel better, I only had like… one friend in my world? We didn’t talk much either, so most people say more words than I know here, anyway.” That was helpful to say, right?

Right?

Mono shrugged his shoulders a little at the statement. “It kinda sucks, yeah… But no one knows what happened before we got here, either.” At least, not that he knew of yet. Mono tended to be more concerned with other things. He left ‘figuring the world out’ to the other people here. Mostly he just used the time to get better at stuff he needed to and trying to watch out for and help his friends.

Mono at least realized he would have to get used to people being a little more formal and talking about stuff that he didn’t quite understand. And… wasn’t it kind of lucky to have to do that at all? When otherwise he wouldn’t have the chance to even learn about some of the complicated things people here knew or spoke of. The child just needed to... pay closer attention, maybe. Try to learn and understand a little harder. “Then you don’t got a lot of experience either, right? It’s just kinda different.” The boy had to wonder about her friends, though, and why they might not have talked as much as they should have. “Why didn’t you talk to them as much? Did ya have to be quiet a lot, or did you get separated?”

Shaking his head at the question, Mono wasn’t entirely sure of the answer to this either. “I dunno? They kinda just say the world ended or there was a… Clamity thing?” Calamity. “Like I think they don’t remember what really happened, just that something bad happened.” Which, he at least realized, was very unhelpful to the people trying to figure stuff out. “But… I kinda get it. Sometimes remembering bad stuff that happened is hard?” Sometimes he had a hard time remembering if something bad that happened in his world went one way, or another… He wasn’t sure if it was because he didn’t want to remember, or if he just got confused when he had to move so quickly to get past the bad things.

Mono could understand that it was embarrassing. It always made him feel really weird every time he did or said something that was not particularly normal by other people’s standards. “If it makes you feel better, there’s a lot of people where who don’t seem to mind being bad with talking and stuff. I kinda got to practice a lot since I got here, and even when I still don’t get stuff, they don’t seem to mind.”

Mono nodded with a sad little frown at her explanation. “That’s bad, I’m sorry…? My friend got taken away, so we got separated too. It’s not fun at all, being alone.” He hoped she’d get to fix things, too. He knew he wanted to when he went back.

“That’s it! That’s what they said.” He responded with an enthusiastic nod, having been unsure if he remembered the right word or not. Seemed like he hadn’t, but at least she understood what he meant. “A fall?” He asked, curious about what she meant. He hadn’t heard anyone talk about a fall, though the notion was an… unsettling one in ways the child couldn’t describe. As did her next word about facing things… “Yeah… I know you got a point. It’s important to face the bad stuff to fix it… Maybe they just need to learn to be braver, and they can learn to from us?” Mono hoped maybe it got easier with time, he was stubbornly running towards a showdown in his own world, but it was hard to deny how scary it was to think about sometimes.

“Thanks. It was really helpful, so I hope you get to too!” He chirped, thinking that was a good thing to hope for her. Especially if she felt awkward and unsure of how to talk to other people, because you kind of needed to in this world to learn important stuff or get things. “I even got a job carrying letters and stuff to people, so that helped too.” Because he actually had to talk to the people, he delivered things to sometimes.

… The old ladies who thought he was adorable were still awkward, though. He was sure one of these days they were actually gonna pinch his cheek.

Mono tilted his head. It wasn’t hard to tell that she seemed pretty sad about her friends too… “I hope you get to find your friends again too.” He responded with a serious nod. If he was going to find Six someday… Maybe Mitsuru could find her friends too.

The child listened carefully, nodding when it seemed important to confirm that she was right. “Ohhh…” He finally spoke, nodding thoughtfully as he adjusted his hat. “That sounds a lot like the same thing. I guess I get what you mean, then!” If the Fall could mean an end to the world, and the calamity was what they called this world being destroyed? Then that seemed pretty similar, just with different words. “Kinda sucks that you don’t know much about it, like we don’t know stuff about what happened here, either. There’s a lot of not knowing stuff in this place.” He added with a small frown, there were too many questions in this world and not enough adults that knew answers.

“I guess we just gotta hope we’re good teachers and that they’ll learn quick. Especially with all the bad stuff that happens around here.” He said thoughtfully, even if they only learned by example and got brave slowly…

“Yeah? My boss, Tommy, he even got a promotion last month! All just doing stuff I’m used to doing, anyway. So even if I’m mostly good at running around and knowing ways to avoid crows, I guess I found a way to make that useful here.” He was pretty proud of himself, honestly. The fact that it was only very recently that the Orphanage appeared and so children were mostly in charge of managing themselves, had never really struck him as odd since that was just… pretty normal in his world now.

“There’s lots of other stuff people can find to do, though. I know a lady who owns a flower shop, and a friend who’s a tailor, and someone who owns the hunter lodge and runs a restaurant out of it. Oh! I guess there’s an investigation place too. I know a couple people that work at it too. I don’t go there much, though.” Because there was a tall weird guy who worked there and it reminded him of the bad person in his world… Still, he moved on quickly. “So I bet you could find something too, if you wanna.”

Mono perked up to hear that. Wasn’t that kind of good news then? “That’s great! I hope you guys get to talk a lot and do stuff while you’re both here.” And… It made the boy wonder if it was possible his friend Six might appear too… That would be pretty great, and if Mitsuru had been separated from her friend, but he was here too now? Stranger things happened, it seemed.

“Oh… That’s not fair at all. No one is around to really deal with stuff that happened in my world either, so I know that’s kinda frustrating.” He responded with a serious frown. And it was part of why this world was pretty frustrating, too. “The monsters are pretty bad sometimes, like the bigger ones that appear. Like there was a demon bear before I got here, and these big ol crab men when I did get here! And a monster plant…”

He hummed a little, considering what might be the worst. Oddly enough, the child didn’t think the monsters were the worst. “Then there were the rains that were made of crystals that held people’s memories. Those really sucked, and I hated them the most. Got caught in it while I was running messages and saw a bunch of people’s memories I shouldnt’a seen and it made me really mad since I couldn’t help my friends since that stuff already happened to them.”

“Yeah, he’s from a world totally different from this one or mine!” Mono responded with a nod to confirm her question. “He made the business himself, and he lets a lot of us kids that can’t make money easy to get stuff we need ourselves. He takes care of the big heavy stuff or delivering stuff that’s needed even quicker than I can carry stuff.” Since Tommy was super fast, as Mono liked to put it. That said, her last questions were things he wasn’t sure how to answer. “I dunno what you mean, exactly? You need money to buy stuff around the city like food and clothes and other things. And I kinda don’t know what you gotta do to start a business, only that people’ve done it. One of them might, or maybe that Raimon guy that runs that funny shop might be able to tell you better than I could?”

Mono shrugged a little. It was kind of sad that they both had to deal with things like that… But she didn’t need to apologize. It wasn’t like she could do anything about it in his world. The kid moved on rather quickly to focus on this world for the time being. “Yeah, there’s a whole bunch of different stuff. Like the usual stuff too, there’s different stuff in the sewers too, so they say you gotta be careful if you go down there.”

He shook his head slightly, at least seeming relieved to confirm the situation with the crystals. “Yeah, it’s only happened the once? I hope it was just a random weird thing, and that it doesn’t happen again. I dunno why it happened, either. I either didn’t hear or no one figured out how it happened.”
