A wrinkle in plans... - Open to all

A. Network Assistance Request?

[ Llewellyn wasn’t much for using the network, really. Tell-phones were something he tended to be more than a little clumsy with. It did help, though, that Enis had put his on a chain so he wouldn’t lose the darn thing so much. So there’s a light metallic rattle as he adjusted the phone and peered into the camera. ]

Er... Hello everyone. I hope you’re all... well?

[ That seemed polite, and he was trying to work up to asking for a favour. Somehow delivering news on a case was easier than this. Why was work always easier? ]

I’m just uh- looking to see if anyone would be interested in helping me out with a little project I’ve been working on. Some of you already know about it, since you mm... were around in the last world I was, as well. Pretzel’s particularly good at following scent trails, and we had thought he would be helpful in the event that people went missing back then. Seems as important here as it was there. Especially since this world has a lot more potentially confusing places to get lost, like the forest.

But! Anyway, I um... I’ve been spending the better part of the last year and a half training him in scent tracking. Rhy and I have mostly been working with items and making trails like that... But I think it would be beneficial for the little fellow to get experience looking for real people now.

Also... He’s very sociable, and because the last world we were in had very... few animals... [ Complicated in ways Llewellyn didn’t know how to explain, really. ] He doesn’t quite know what everything here is. He keeps trying to make friends with creatures that aren’t fond of dogs. [ A small amused huff. Pretzel really was as awkward as he could be sometimes. ] So if anyone has a particularly social pet that he might get along with, it might be nice for him to get to know them?

[ An awkward pause, then a nod. That was about it. ]

Uh- anyway, I’ll be going then. Thank you for your time!

[ The feed closes. ]

B. Open Log

Pretzel was a very energetic, growing ~~wrinkle~~ hound. It was important to get him out for walks so he didn’t get too housebound, and while the move was going to give the little guy more room to run around? It was going to be an adjustment, and Llewellyn was hoping to keep his routine as close to normal in all the excitement.

Especially since Pretzel had somehow gotten very good at slipping out without their notice to explore the city in search of friends. Neither he nor Rhy could figure out how the dog kept doing it, it was a mystery.

Llewellyn had decided it was just that the dog was rather intelligent, and he wasn’t being challenged or engaged enough. So the best answer he could come up with was to increase training and give him something a little more difficult. Challenge the clever little hound’s mind while they were out and about.

Afternoons where he wasn’t at the Gullwings office, Aerith’s garden shop, or with his husband were spent on very long walks around the market... Or running around the park with fake scent trails and dog toys as he tried to keep up with Pretzel’s training and exercise.

ooc: People could either run into them at the park (especially if you want to handwave them arranging to help with training) or bump into them around the market! Both Llewellyn and Pretzel are very ~~awkward~~ social!

Helping out a friend in need. - Closed to Lauri-Ell

Llewellyn adjusted his hat slightly, moving down a side street with Pretzel trotting dutifully at his heels. The detective had a somewhat concerned and definitely curious expression on his face as he took a shortcut to the forge where his friend worked.

Lauri-Ell didn’t tend to ask for assistance or favours much, in his experience. They had their weekly lessons for writing and sharing books... But this was a little different from that. She had sounded a bit frustrated and troubled, explaining that something rather important was missing...

It hadn’t taken more than a half second of thought to agree. He wasn’t fond of friends being troubled by things, especially if he could help.

So off he went with a quick note for his husband where he was going for the day in case he didn’t make it home till later in the evening, getting Pretzel’s leash on and making his way to their destination.

This was it. This was moving day. Well... Moving week, really. They had been working for the last week or so to get their belongings moved from the red and blue building to the stonework house that was situated in a small neighborhood near the market.

But today, in particular, was special. It was moving in day. It was also, amusingly, their wedding anniversary. Which had felt rather fitting for their next step together.

There were other things, of course, that needed doing. The house was in livable conditions, but it did still need a little work here and there. Some painting needed to be done to freshen things, some small repairs here and there, and perhaps a little more cleaning where it had been vacant for so long...

But they were both rather eager lovebirds, after having been searching for the right house for a few months now. Especially since this one had been perfect, hitting most of the marks that they had agreed on for a home, which felt rather lucky.

Llewellyn had been... Well, he was up to something. Rhy would be able to tell that much as they got ready for the day. The detective had never been good at hiding things unless someone’s life depended on it (and if it was his life, then less so). So it was clear enough that he was keeping something to himself while they went over last-minute plans.

It was their wedding anniversary though, so what on earth did the man have up his sleeve today?

“So uh- we need to stop off at the shop to get the um...” He gestured at the windows lightly from where he was standing next to the closet, trying to button his shirt and get dressed for the day. “The materials you picked out for the curtains and your projects? And I have to get some paint to work in the kitchen in the next few weeks...” He tapped off the list on his finger, forgetting his task of getting dressed for a moment. “Should probably see if the carpentry shop has some of the things we commissioned finished, too. I think the note I received from the messenger said they had Pretzel’s bed and a few other things ready.” He added, piling a few more things onto the list while he tried to decide on a green waistcoat or a blue one.

"The bakery is a very good idea," Rhy suggested thoughtfully. "The girls would like it in the afternoon. We need the energy when we're finishing things."

Still, he's impressed that his lover might have something. When the ribbon was brought over he considers it. Rhy takes it in his hand, considering the feeling and what was going on.

"I don't think it will sadly. The edges are a bit sharp. It will wear the fabric."

That gets a pleased smile. It was good to hear that he had an idea that would be appreciated. Llewellyn liked the thought of returning the kind gesture with one of their own. “Then I’ll get a nice assortment and stop by tomorrow afternoon. That way it will be fresh, and something for everyone to enjoy.”

Handing over the ribbon, he leaned against the bedpost as he let his husband inspect the possibility. He hummed lightly, though, at the explanation. Llewellyn found himself reaching out to feel the edge of the ribbon.

Rhy knew best in this situation, of course. He worked with material all day, and he undoubtedly knew what would wear poorly against the fine fabric of the curtains. “Ah, I suppose we’ll have to leave them untied until we can get something tomorrow, then?” Not too bad, even if it would be nice to see it all finished.

"You're the best," Rhy offered with a grin. "Muffins are lovely. They would like those if they were possible.

"That will have to work," Rhy decided as he fussed the curtain he was touching into a more attractive position.

Llewellyn grinned a little at that, “Mm… No, I’m pretty sure the best is my husband.” He commented with a silly flush. But muffins? Yes, he could do that. An assortment of muffins. He would put a call in the next morning for them. Then he could pick them up and bring them by in the afternoon. “Muffins it is, then! A nice assortment. They make good snacks.” He commented, before finally moving to pull pillow cases onto the pillows while he watched Rhy Fuss with the curtains.

A playful tilt of his head as he nudges Rhy lightly, “And as it is, we’ll probably draw them shut later, anyway. A little privacy till we get to hanging the window curtains.” What? He wasn’t going to forget the idea of seeing Rhy wrapped up in the lovely green sheets that went with the curtains, not after his husband had pointed it out to him.

"Good snacks that if you don't want a lot of, you can easily split," Rhy agreed. So yes, the ladies would appreciate them.

At least Rhy was clearly extremely skilled at getting the curtains to hang properly. Helped that he'd grown up with the things.

"I like sleeping with them closed in the cooler months. It helps hold in some heat."

“That looks much better, love.” Setting the pillows aside once they had their cases on, he unfolded the sheets to consider where to start, pausing to admire his husband’s work.

Peering over his shoulder with a small, impressed hum. Yes, Rhy had made them look rather nice, even without the ties to gather them back. “That’s one of the reasons I thought a bed like this might be a nice addition to the home, important to keep warm as the weather changes. That way, next fall and winter, I can make sure you stay cozy and warm.” Llewellyn added with a little grin, pleased that it was both beautiful and practical.

"And it has nothing to do with the memories you saw of my room back on my world," Rhy asked, smirking. Oh, he knows the other had seen what the space was like. He figured that played for this some.

Llewellyn’s expression shifted to something a little bashful. He’d been found out! Not that he hadn’t expected Rhy to connect those dots, he knew how smart his husband was. “I confess it did inspire me a little…” A little might be a slight understatement, but the theme of the bed had definitely suited them both. “Like I said, I thought you should have a fine furnishing fitting of you.” He added with a small grin. He knew he couldn’t give Rhy as much as he’d had before, but he couldn’t help but try when an opportunity presented itself. The bed had been an excellent opportunity.

“And what better place to start than where we rest our heads at night, hm?” He began tucking in sheets, smoothing them out carefully as he moved.

Oh his love did so much for him. And Rhy reached for his lover to embrace Llewellyn. Can you even understand the issue there?

"I may once have ruled, I don't think that means you should go out of the way for fine furnishings for me. Not that I don't like these. I do. But I don't need spoiled, lovely."

He knew his husband didn’t expect it, but it was hard sometimes to not wish he could do more. He knew he couldn’t give the man everything, of course. Llewellyn knew there are limitations and keeping to budget was important, especially with the new house…

But they needed a bed, and he had felt rather clever for coming up with the idea of something a little nicer. The rest would happen eventually and not be nearly so specially thought of as this.

Llewellyn paused his task, letting Rhy pull him in closer with a small, silly smile. “I know, my love… You are very sensible and never make me feel pressured to do so… But I simply saw the opportunity, and I couldn’t help but think of you.”

Oh, it was definitely much nicer. He is still smiling, and does so more widely when Llewellyn speaks.

"You make me feel more regal than I ever felt in my life before this."

Did he really? His heart rose to hear that, such a lovely thought… “Well… You are the king of my heart, after all.” He responded with a little smile. A call back to prior conversations and fun.

But Rhy made him feel so loved, so cherished… It gave him far more strength than his husband probably realized, but he was his world.

“And you’re just charming when you put things like that,” Rhy smiled before holding his hand out to his lover. Come on, darling, let him hug you. He needs it in this moment.

Charming? He wasn’t sure about that, but then he realized perhaps he was only capable of charm because of the love he felt. So comfortable and more confident with his beloved near. “I’m only speaking the truth as I see and feel it, my love.” He responded, expression soft as he tugged at the sheet a couple more times to get it to lie flat.

But at the hand offered, he turned his attention entirely to his husband. He was happy to take the hand, drawing in close to the offered embrace and forgetting his prior task entirely. This was all so much. All of it was good, and he was delighted to bask in it with Rhy.

"I know we have so many things to do, but all I want is to nap with my beloved in our bed," Rhy said with a smile.

HE wanted to just feel the warmth of the other in the warmth of their home.

Llewellyn tilted his head slightly, wrapping his arms around Rhy in return. “Well… We’ve already got everything in the house that we can right now… No reason why we couldn’t put off sorting and unpacking till later.” He commented with a hum, “Rest is important, after all…” And, head leaning in closer, he continued. “It would only be sensible to test out the bed and the nice sheets on it now… You know, to make sure we’ll be comfortable?”

"Oh don't tempt me to fully test them."

He's laughing in delight at the idea of it. Time to settle down and have a nap. It will help with his anxiety.

Llewellyn raised a brow at that, a small, pleased laugh escaping him at the idea. “Maybe I can’t help but tempt you, my love?” He rose an eyebrow lightly. He loved having his husband's attention, loved returning it too...

But the idea of settling Rhy’s anxiety, giving him a rest after so much excitement…? The part of Llewellyn that worried about making sure his loved ones were happy and, well, was stronger than other ideas. Especially after the nerves Rhy had displayed that morning. It had left him wondering how much sleep his husband had gotten.

“Come rest, love. I can tempt you and we can… Test further later, hm? I like you to be well rested, after all.” He commented with a lighter tone, tugging Rhy to the mattress to lie down on their new bed and delightfully soft sheets. Faint light from the window filtering through the coloured glass above their heads.

"Test further later," he laughs, before nodding. "Yes, let us rest here for now. That matters to me quite a bit. I'm sorry. I've been so scared to start this new part of our life. I fear I've no experience with building a home of my own."

But now? Now he was just happy.

“I know you have…” Llewellyn responded softly, fluffing a pillow and setting it down for Rhy’s head. “It’s a rather large step, and responsibility… But I think we’ve managed rather well so far. We can handle this together, as a team, after all.” He said, drawing back the sheets that he’d just been fussing with moments before so his husband could get comfortable and he could join him. Let him dote. He wants to help soothe your nerves, Rhy.

“Even I had been a bit nervous about it, for all I’ve tried to uh- present a more optimistic outlook, I was worried about making sure it was ready for when you arrived.” Wanted to make sure as much was done, that he could ease some of his husband’s worries upon his arrival. Feeling responsible for loved ones and their comfort was something he’d always feel at the end of the day. But he realized after the fact that perhaps his husband had felt alone in his concern, and he should have been more open about that instead.

He slipped into bed next to Rhy to draw him closer. “You should have seen me running around before you arrived. I'm sure it was probably rather amusing.” He added with a joking tone.

"It probably was," he admitted with a smile. "However, you should know that I wish to be involved with this. Yes, I may not know things, but I wish this to be something I join you in. I wish to join you in all things. Such is the strength of my love."

SO let him help with this frantic work, beloved.

Llewellyn supposed that was fair, even if he really did want to try to take care of things for his husband… They were in this together, after all, and they could share in the experience. “It’s hard for me to not want to try to take care of things… But with your reminder, my love, I’ll gladly share in the tasks.” He smiled a little, drawing the other closer to curl in close to nap. “Even if you have to put up with my fussing? I look forward to seeing how we turn this place into our own, together.”
