Welcome to the Carnival

A MULTI-DAY AND MULTI-NIGHT ENTERTAINMENT EXTRAVAGANZA!

That is precisely how the advertising banners draw the curious in to the circus complex outside the city, and they do not disappoint. Visitors will be welcomed and told to enjoy themselves, thanked for their patronage, and even given a welcome gift: a small, folding mirror in a box as a door prize. Along with the mirror is a hand-written note in silver ink, written in elegant script.

If you use me before sleep, you will certainly dream of what might have been!

Visitors to the grounds anytime of the day or night will be drawn in by the colorful lights and whimsical sounds of the carnival that dominates both the park and the Circus itself. There are fair rides on the midway. Yes, that's right. Actual, honest to goodness rides. Some are probably familiar, which others are completely alien. There is a Ferris wheel, a haunted house, a house of mirrors to name a few, as well as whatever you as players may want to dream up. If riding fair rides isn't your style, there is an entire shopping district of craftsman hawking wares, food galor to be found (ranging from exotic meals to typical carnival food) as well as enough alcohol to keep everyone well and truly intoxicated for their stay at the carnival.

There is an entire galley of carnival games as well, if winning that special someone an stuffed animal or new pet (think a brand new goldfish) is more your style. You can show off your skills in the shooting range, try to land rings around moving poles, try to guess the number of marbles in one very large jar, and anything else you're welcome to dream up! It seems the visiting clerks here like to change their games up, so now two trips to the galley of games will ever be the same!

The caller outside the sideshow might try to entice visitors in to his gallery of oddities and here things get very interesting. It seems something like a zoo, or a freak show if you want to call it that (and it may make some players and characters uncomfortable). There are creatures in residence from any number of worlds, be their your own or creatures (or races) pulled from other media. The features of the sideshow also seem to change every time it's visited. You may want to go back several times to see if you can share something you've seen with someone else. You might even be successful!

THE MAIN EVENT

Over the several days of the carnival, there are regularly scheduled showed, either in open-air stages or under Big Tops, and they range from magic shows (that use real magic), or stunt demonstrations (that even use motorcycles, which is odd. Has anyone ever seen a motorcyle around here?) to wild animal acts, acrobats, and even clown shows! The tend to change, any they're repeated regularly so you're sure to see something you came to see! There's no limit to the number of times a show can be seen, either, so bring your friends!

Ignis smiled because he was hiding his laughter. And it wouldn't be a scornful kind, but rather one of delight. It wasn't very often that he could ever say he saw someone with a childlike sense of wonder without being a child themselves. And it reminded him of some of the adults that he'd heard around christmas where they said their children would look wide eyed and full of wonder at some of the new things they'd see and learn about.

This was much the same sort of situation and it was quite encouraging.

"You may take pieces of it as if pulling them from a spindle and take bites that way. However I must caution against acquiring quite sticky fingers if you so choose to take it on."

Insea placed the pads of her fingers to her cheeks and felt the sticky film covering her skin. It would be better to be on her fingers than it would be on her face. "It is sticky." She was discovering a whole new world and while she noticed Ignis's grin, she didn't appear bothered by it. Those things never really bothered her.

"If it is sugar I can clean it with water... right?" Bright blue-gray eyes look up at Ignis as she tries to find a solution to the stick issue. Her entire expression lit up and a smile made her face glow with excitement. "Yes. That is it!"

She placed her palm to her chest and softly called to the water spirit that had taken to living within her. A soft glowing blue exited her chest and curled in her palm as if to hide its glow behind her hand. "Hello friend. Could you clean the sugar off me?" The blue glow flickered and flew to Inesa's cheeks and lips.

An instant later the blue water spirit was glowing pink and zipping around Inesa as it experienced its own sugar high. "Oh no. Hey. Are you okay?" She's now panicked, looking up at Ignis with an expression of please help. She didn't need food to survive and she hadn't had enough sugar to ever experience a sugar high.

"Water is usually the solution." Ignis replied with a nod. If only he could get Noctis to subscribe to that theory. Water to the king was for fishing and even if the man was into hygiene, his advisor thought more of it was always needed.

But he did watch in fascination as the water spirit appeared and he wondered at it. However, he didn't have much time since it was so busy getting its mistress clean and back to her pre sugar existence.

As he caught Inessa's gaze, he had seen the spirit really start to move quite fast and it took him a moment to figure out what had happened of sorts. Trying to catch the thing was something he wasn't sure he was going to be able to accomplish.

"It's had far too much sugar at this point I take it?"

"Too much?!" Inesa sounded panicked. "Is it poison to spirits?"

The pink cloud of cotton candy dropped from her hand as she reached for the water spirit whizzing around her head. The wind picked up around her palms before she was able to capture the frantic spirit within her hands. It continued to zip around but was trapped in a little sphere of wind that Inesa gently curled into place.

She had no idea what to do but if it needed more water to fight the sugar then there was one obvious source of water nearby. Inesa placed the spirit back into her chest, dissipating the small windy currents in the process. She squeaked and jumped as the sugar from the spirit dissolved into her body in place of the spirits small form. She felt the spirit inside of her but exhausted and ready to nap.

Her hand rested gently over her chest as she looked up at Ignis. "They seem to be okay now."

"I've no idea." Ignis replied, uncertain about that because spirits weren't his thing, they were always more the domain of Noct and Lady Lunafreya. But finally its mistress caught the poor thing and he stepped back to watch the goings on with a scholarly curiousity.

Once Inesa was done, the advisor breathed a sigh of relief. Well that was more than enough excitement for one day more or less, so he smiled. "I wasn't even aware spirits that small could exist. So today has been quite a learning experience on both parts." Of course now he was now going to have to research spirits.

"But I am happy that the situation seems to be resolved."

Inesa smiled at Ignis. "Yes. Spirits come in all sizes. This is a very small water spirit that I found when I was a child. They were lost and I offered them a home. It is usually very shy but he likes to be helpful." Now she knew that feeding a small water spirit sugar was not a good idea.

"I am sorry if I alarmed you. I was a bit surprised." She hadn't expected the sudden event.

"Do you know a lot about the food here? I would love to learn more." Inesa would also make sure not to give any more of it to her little blue glowing friend and find napkins for future sugary troubles.

"I see." Ignis replied. The only thing he had n comparison was Noct's familiar of sorts named Carbuncle. The way the king described him was something akin to a fox, and was far smaller than the Six and not considered a deity. But according to Noct, Carbuncle was around a lot, and especially had been when the king was attacked by the Marilith when he was a boy, resulting in him having to have need of a wheelchair for a time.

"You've no need to apologize." Ignis replied smoothly. "No harm done." Really there wasn't, so she had no reason to say she was sorry. It was an honest moment of panic for the spirit she so obviously cared about.

However, the advisor smiled a little brightly when Inesa mentioned food. "Are you looking to learn to cook or simply do some research? I can certainly be of some assistance in either case."

She gently placed her fingers thoughtfully against her lips as she considered Ignis's question. "I suppose... what I am truly looking for is research." Her arms dropped to her sides and her chin rose.

"I do not require food but I am interested in the different types of foods. I enjoy cooking but I do so for others and sometimes it is difficult to learn about their favorite foods. Foods are also different in different places. It is rather interesting and I would like to understand more of it."

People were so interesting and Inesa found her love for the general races of man to grow the more she learned about their innovation and culture. "I hope that makes sense."

"Ah." Ignis replied with a nod to the research comment. That was something he loved to do. And as he listened, he gained a clearer understanding of what she was after. "You have heard of the Historium, there are books there on cooking." As he and his husband had spent a rather lovely weekend doing just that. "There's also a Wizard's Tower here which contains further research. However, if you're looking for actual practice, there's a diner here in town, or the Hunter's Lodge."

Of course he didn't mention who the owner and head chef was.

Still, he nodded. "It makes complete sense."

"I have, however, I have not considered looking for books about food. I have read some histories and other books that are encyclopedic knowledge of plants and other native items." It was a logical leap to look at books about food but Inesa honestly hadn't thought of it.

She'll make sure to look at the books at the Historium next time she visited.

"I have not spent much time in the wizard tower. I admit, it makes me nervous but I would love to practice if you are free. I have many I cook for but I do not know what is healthy. I would like to offer dishes that are both healthy and taste good." She often cooked for her pets as well as friends.

"You like cooking then? It is an admirable skill to have."

"Plants are where the culinary herbs start." Ignis replied brightly. He did his own research some nights while cooking at the Lodge. Other nights he brought it home and waited until Nida was tucked into bed before he went back downstairs to one of the up and coming reading nooks and did his research and note taking there so as to not disturb his mate's precious slumber.

Still, he liked the idea she was proposing because maybe she knew things that he didn't and it would undoubtedly expand on his culinary repertoire if she did. "Well I can certainly offer a place to do so without any pressure."

Which would be when the Lodge was closed and there were a few days here and there that would happen. But at the last question he smiled. "Cooking is necessary, and people need to eat."

A soft angelic laugh escaped from the young woman's lips. "I suppose you are right. I have not thought of it that way though." Most of the plants that she'd looked up were flowers or plants that were able to thrive happily in partial sunlight as they were soon added to her little forest indoors.

Inesa hadn't though to grow plants that she could eat since she didn't need to eat. However she did grow bits of lettuce and herbs for Lancelot, her bunny.

"That is true but-" She flushed nervously. "I suppose I am different in that regard since I do not require food. Though," Her fingers gently brushed against her lower lips. "I love the taste and smells. Is that odd? I would like to learn more to prepare meals for others."

"Ah." Ignis replied, wondering why she didn't need to eat. Was it something to do with the fairy? Well he had no idea and it wasn't his business so he wasn't about to inquire. He listened as she went on and nodded. "Well then consider yourself invited to the Hunting Lodge on whatever day or night suits you best. I can assist you from there."

With Jacob taking classes from him of sorts, he always joked to the lad that he should charge him though he never would. However, even if he wouldn't advertise that he could teach people if it were one of the locals, he might be tempted.

There were enough well to do ones there that had seemed interested.

"Thank you." Inesa smiled up at Ignis. "I will make sure to come by sometime soon." She looked at her cotton candy and pinched another little bit of the spun sugar between her thumb and forefinger before popping it into her mouth. The sweetness surprised her despite it being her second bite.

"For now. I will continue my exploration." She might not finish the sugary pink cloud but she wanted to see what other foods the carnival had to offer. From where she was standing everything smelled as if it was fried.

"It was a pleasure to meet you."
