Winter log
Who: Everyone!
What: Open Log
When: December
Where: The Hunter's Lodge
Warnings: N/A
Notes: This is a mingle log, so people are free to set up their own TLs under it. So tag in and tag around!
Snow has fallen outside and while it's not heavy it's set just enough down to gently cover the wooden benches and ground outside. The chairs have been removed but the lanterns are still out and lit (as well as the little lights that have been replaced with more festive ones) if people want to walk around outside and have private chats among the snow, the trees and the lighting.
Potluck - Food is all around. Got a story about how the food you brought is part of a long standing family tradition? So much the better! But Ignis for his part has been researching and working on bringing the foods he's heard about. So here you'll find an appetizer platter along with a cream cheese tree, turkey, ham, his version of the Crown City roast, stuffing balls, roasted potatoes and roasted vegetables, and of course a few different desserts.
So you can find him making sure the table is decked out in christmas colours and full of food. But as he sets the last appetizer tree down on the table, he nods. "Quite glad to see that you could make it."
Trim a tree A small group of freshly cut green trees are sitting in a corner with room to go around the back. Simple lights are already in place, but there are ornaments with hooks sitting in silent invitation to decorate the tree and gather around as well as different coloured garland too.
But there's plenty of supplies and being able to decorate a tree with Nida last year was all sorts of fun as it will be again this year. So the advisor is definitely happy that nature can come inside at least temporarily.
Ignis stands back and takes a look at the trees with a satisfied sort of nod. "I suppose after the holiday, I will see about replanting it outside." Turning to his guest, there's an easy smile. "It won't do to simply throw it away do you think?"
Gift exchange - Gifts aren't required, but people are free to do so. This can be as private or as public as wished! The royal strategist is busy arranging gifts under the tree, trying to make some sense as to how they should be grouped, so he's on his knees trying to keep the order straight. As soon as someone approaches, he acknowledges their presence with a smile. "Would you mind handing me that blue wrapped gift sitting on the chair right next to you?"
Wild card- Dancing? Snowball fights outside? Feel free to make up a thing here!

He picked up an ornament and tried hanging it on the three, tilting his head one way and the other while he tried to decide if he liked it there… “I guess that makes sense…? Never did anything like this before to know what I like or what to make a tradition… So I guess I gotta figure that out while I practice.” He finally decided that ornament looked okay, and if it wasn’t Mono supposed that someone would move it later. “What kinda stuff do you do for traditions?” He finally asked, perhaps a little eager to learn more about Yuki and maybe to get an idea of what other people might like as well.

He now knew that was a thing here with flowers where he hadn't thought much about it before back home.
Turning back to Mono now, he watched as the boy had put an ornament on the tree. It made him smile to see the other ponder it as if ornament placement was a weighty decision. He'd heard of placing things in different places back home for good luck or whatever, so this reminded him a bit of that.
At the question though, he shook his head. "We don't celebrate christmas back home, but some foreign exchange students did. I just never really thought to ask them about it."
no subject
“Really? What kinda stuff do you celebrate, then? It seems like everyone has some kinda fun stuff they do in their world.” He asked curiously, finally looking away from the ornament. Either the kid was satisfied with its placement, or his attention span had momentarily shifted to his curiosity over Yuki’s holidays.

"So that's when I'll be making tea and some sort of dinner for it. Christmas seems to be celebrated by plenty of people though." This observation was made as someone walked by with a tray full of mugs with hot chocolate in them.
no subject
Yes, the child was a bit proud to have realized that. Figuring out the calendar was something he’d had to start working on when he got a job… Even now he didn’t have a very good sense of time since no one really paid any attention to things from one day to the next in his world any more… but he was working on it. “So you’ll be having a special dinner and tea? Do you do any other stuff?”
no subject
Still, he smiled at the questions. "Yes, a special dinner and tea starts it." It was hard to think of how different the new year's were now that there wasn't a super special secret banquet to attend. "Well there was a dance, but that won't be happening this year." It wouldn't because the curse was broken of course.
"But it'll probably be something quiet, with food and maybe some decorations."
no subject
It might be a little sad, he supposed, that dancing wouldn’t happen… People seemed to like dancing, and it was fun to watch them enjoy themselves… but there was something about Yuki’s plans that actually seemed nice to the boy. “I kinda think quiet celebrations sound nice… Sometimes these things are a lot, with all the people and noise. Something quieter with food and decorations might be more… relaxing?”
no subject
He thought a moment. "This is your first new year's here, right?" If the boy didn't have plans, Yuki might alter his own. But he had to find out first.
no subject
So it was his first New Year's here, but it was also the first New Year marked in general. Which was an exciting prospect, even if it was also a strange one for him. "I dunno what I should do for it? I guess I kinda gotta figure that out, like this Christmas thing."
no subject
So he thought back to home and simplified it. "How about having a lot of food to eat?" It did occur to him to see if the boy would get up and watch the first sunrise, but maybe that was just something that the people back home did. With Mono being so young, Yuki wasn't sure a kid staying up or getting up super early would be good for him.
no subject
Mono tilted his head one way, humming a little. "Lots of food to eat...? Yeah, I guess that would be good. Like... All the really good food I got to try this year that I liked best!" So that was something, if he could get it and have his apartment stocked with it.
Mono was young, yes, but he also didn't have much of a normal child's schedule. He went to bed when he was tired and he got up when he wasn't anymore... And even then, his sleep was very light and often broken because a deep sleep was dangerous. Plus... He spent a lot of time on the roof. The sun coming up was pretty, and it wasn't a sight he got to see in his world.
no subject
Of course Yuki was one of those people even if he told himself that he could cook. But to him, it was just like finding someone who could cook like Miss Honda could. And there was no point in him expending the effort or energy to cook if he didn't have to.
"What do you like to eat in particular?"
no subject
"Hm... I like stuff with apples a lot, I got to try apple tarts... Oh! And Illyana gave me a cinnamon sugar pretzel once too, that was really good... And... Ravioli stuff..." He tapped his chin thoughtfully. Mono had really tried a lot of food and he liked it all, although it should be noted that his favourites were definitely sweet things with fruit filling. It wasn't something he'd gotten a lot of before, since fresh things had all spoiled in his world and no one really grew things.
Then he tilted his head up as he remembered another thing he liked, "And stuff like the cheese and crackers you gave me that time was really good too." He chirped, with a pleased smile. It was simple food, yes, but it was something that was easy to keep around.

"You can tell me when you want to go, or if you need to make a list." Miss Honda always had lists and it seemed to help her shop. Even being in another world, he had picked up that list habit and it was a lot easier to remember things before/i> he went to the store versus after being there. He wasn't adverse to writing things down while he was there too.
"Cheese and crackers will be easier to find. But we can definitely stock you up."
no subject
Not that he knew if he had really good ideas for food, but if Yuki was going to help him… Then he should probably offer to help him, too.
no subject
He nodded to Mono's idea. "Going shopping together would be fun." And a small painful memory of being with Miss Honda sometimes when she would shop for the house ran through his head. Funny how he didn't realize things were so precious until they became just a memory. Sure he'd thought about that at the store sometimes when he was alone, but always just as quickly dismissed it.
But Mono's cheerful attitude was definitely helping here. "I think going together is a great idea. And we can do that more often if you want."
no subject
The idea that they could go together more often was actually nice, too… It got a little lonely sometimes, even with his randomly checking in on friends. “That would be fun!! Thanks, Yuki!”
Wrap?
"We can take Haru with us too, and you can walk him if you want." It would be nice to see the boy with the chocobo chick, and might give him something else to make him happy.
Sure thing!
But, on that note, he realized he should let Yuki get back to his day… Plus, the child had a few other people he wanted to see that day before he went back to the gray building. “I gotta go check on some people, but I’ll see you later!” He added with a quick wave, not being great at goodbyes but definitely trying to remember his manners a little more.
