I know there are serious things happening but focusing on that has never been something I'm good at. That said, Thanksgiving just passed by. [Not that Jacob has a good track record for celebrating or understanding most holidays but it got him thinking.] Not sure who has thanksgiving or who celebrates it.

It's a pretty strange holiday.

[Jacob remembers it as a holiday dedicated to overeating.]

But it also reminds me that Christmas is coming up too. I don't remember doing much the last time I was here. [He thinks he gave away wooden carvings but then that might have had no relation to Christmas, Jacob's memories were still a bit fuzzy.]

Anyway, I wanted to know what sort of traditions people had.

My traditions changed a lot after my parents passed but when I was very young I remember a lot of cookies and a lot of pie. Along with a great deal of decorations that I had to help with or, I wouldn't get the aforementioned cookies and pie.

What about you guys?

You don't..remember the Winter Ball they had?

[Which would be perfect in his mind because it had gone badly.]

I do.

[He pauses a little awkwardly.]

But that felt like a winter party. Christmas is- [Jacob pauses before trying to articulate his thoughts.] It's different. It's just a small family thing. I wasn't really in a good place the last time I was here so I wasn't really into celebrating.

Unless I was made too but I thought it'd be nice to celebrate this time. With family.

[A beat.]

[He wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry at hearing that Jacob recalled the dance. But he said nothing more about it to ensure he didn't embarrass himself further. However, Yuki listened when it was told to him that Jacob hadn't been in a good frame of mind at the time.]

We don't celebrate christmas back home, so I can understand that.

[And then that last part. Jacob considered him family?]

What did you want to do for it this year?

You don't?

[So he can't use any of Yuki's traditions to make him feel more at ease.]

How about we celebrate together at my place. I can handle the details. Just bring a gift and we'll exchange them.

[He's sure that he can make it a nice night, even if he doesn't have the flare his sister has. He'll have to channel his inner Airy.]

Are there any holidays you do celebrate?

No.

[He felt kind of lame because that wasn't something they celebrated though they did have others. But then Jacob made him smile.]

I don't really know what to get you yet, but I'll figure it out.

[And he smiled at the last part.]

Back home we make a big deal out of the new year.

It's a date.

[Jacob isn't going to stop smiling, even as the conversation shifts.]

What did you do for new years?

[He could only smile at the word date because he'd love that.]

We'd stay up and watch the sun rise from the roof of the house. My..family had a huge celebration that lasted a few days but it was all food and family and visiting.

Sounds like a good time.

That's if you liked your family.

For me, it was me, my sister and my parents. We didn't have any extended family that I knew but it was a good time. I can't remember ever being able to stay up until midnight on New Year. Not back then anwyay.

[He just smiled with the comment about family and listened as Jacob went on. And he only spoke when the other was done.]

It's fine if you don't do something like that. This is a new world anyway so maybe new traditions can happen.

I'd like that.

Things are never like they are in the past anyway.

[A lot of his happy memories are tinted gray by the events that had followed.]

I don't remember you telling me too much about your family before. [Or he's forgotten, Jake is really hoping that isn't the case.] What were they like?

There's really not much to tell about them. They're the same as anyone's I'd guess, all sorts of different personalities.

[Not to mention his brother ran a dress making shop and he didn't want to talk about Haru or about Hatori being able to erase memories. Then of course there were his parents that he definitely wasn't up to speaking about.]

Did you have a nuclear family?

[He isn't sure that his family is normal but when he was younger it was.]

[This was something he'd most definitely rather explain in person.]

I did.

[Not that he lived with them long.]

Same. Though my parents died when I was a young teen.

Guess we should talk about that later, huh?

[It gets pretty dark.]

Well, if you can think of anything for the holidays, let me know. Otherwise I'll do my part.

I'm sorry about your parents.

[That had to be hard, but he wasn't going to push, and it seemed like Jacob wanted to go. So he just nodded.]
