Wandering Around in November
Who; Llewellyn and whoever!
What; November logs! (Open ones below the cut, closed ones in the comments!)
Where; The market, park, and all around
When; Mid to late November
Warnings; None but I will warn accordingly if something comes up!
There’s something to be said for the bustle of a market - Open to All
Between one job and the next, Llewellyn had found himself wandering the market with a pretzel in hand as he browsed the wares on various tables and through windows of smaller shops that had opened up over time.
It was quiet moments like this that reminded him of his world, in a way. If you tuned out the chocobos and other oddities, squinting just a little…
In many ways, it was better than his world, of course. Society was a little more relaxed here, for one. There were fewer things for him to hide. But he still felt out of place sometimes in other ways he couldn’t quite explain to people.
But there was something relaxing about moving from one table to the next, admiring the craftsmanship of one person’s work or chatting with another about what news or gossip there was to be heard while he bought a snack.
Llewellyn seemed to be on the lookout for something, though it was hard to say what at a glance. One might even wonder if Llewellyn knew what he was trying to find... But he was a bit caught up in some musings, brought on by the time of year. It was a complicated one for the detective, and he seemed intent upon keeping himself busy.
Sometimes Llewellyn would get so distracted with a thought or a conversation that, unsurprisingly, he’d almost bump into another person. “Oh- er… Pardon!” He uttered at one point, nearly walking into someone, only to awkwardly spin a little and lean around them instead. How he did so without falling over was something between extensive experience of almost walking into people and a small miracle.
Progress with a pupper at the park - Open to All
It was a brisk autumn afternoon at the park, leaves caught in breezes to fly through the air and eventually land to only be crunched underfoot. It had quickly become a favourite haunt of Llewellyn’s and his pup Pretzel alike. The open air, the space, the sounds of ducks or excited squirrels were pleasantly familiar. The man always felt far better outside than he ever did inside, often taking his casework on walks with him, even in his own world.
Today was not about work, though. Instead, he’d gathered up a few things from the apartment and hooked a leash to Pretzel’s collar. His intentions were to continue training his wrinkly companion, hiding toys and setting up trails for the dog to follow. He wanted to work the canine up to the point they could practice with people, hoping the dog would help with finding missing persons should such cases arise.
Of course, it had eventually devolved into tug-of-war games and Pretzel taking off at a run to burn off some energy or if another animal or person had caught his attention.
He was a sociable pup, good-natured and often confused over the idea that not everyone would want to be friends… So someone might be surprised by a dog tripping over their own ears to get to them to say hello.

"And it works well with walksies," Rhy agreed with a smile as they started off in the direction his beloved suggested. This was going to be fun. "It's sad, I think, that it is so easy to find new homes. This place is too empty."
no subject
“That it does, for both him and myself.” Llewellyn added, with a small smile, as he recalled the original reason for Rhy agreeing to a walk. The air was nice, though, and he felt far lighter than he did earlier. Even if the conversation was a little sad for the moment, “You’re right… It feels like a place that should be so much more full of life. I suppose that’s why everyone has been brought here, and continues to be.” Llewellyn mused, frowning lightly. He felt lucky to be here, with Rhy… Instead of in his own world without. But he knew that not everyone thought they should be here, what with those other locals living in the forests and their warnings.
But he wanted to try to focus on the positives, wanted to strive to not let himself sink into old ways of thinking that he’d been improving on since meeting Rhy. Looking around, he noted they were leaving the less populated part of the market towards one of the neighborhoods. Houses were not scarce, as Rhy had said. They varied in size, of course. Some rather large, of course, and others more… manageable.
no subject
Where they're all a lie. Rhy hated how that revelation had hurt. It had cut him to the quick because he hadn't known how to get back the people. He'd asked, but it wasn't useful.
no subject
“I’m… not really sure…” He hated the idea himself, like Rhy it had hurt to realize so many people they’d gotten to know and spoken to and had in their lives were not only gone… But hadn’t been real to begin with. “I’ve watched them, and I’ve asked around to get a better idea of how things work here.” He waved a hand around vaguely, “They seem real enough, but then… I’ve been told when new things appear here, they tend to act like said things always existed. Which is a bit worrying, in my opinion.”
Still, he didn’t want to put too much of a damper on their walk. “That said… It doesn’t mean they aren’t real. There could be something else that effects their memory… Without more to go on, it’s not something that can be said one way or another definitively.” But he shook his head a little, “And we speak to them, we get to know them… Even the people at the Sphere who disappeared that weren’t ‘real?’ That doesn’t make our experiences with them any less real or meaningful to us.”
no subject
And Rhy didn't like that, but since none of them were specifically people of this world, they could be immune to it.
"Your angle of looking at it is probably right."
no subject
And he certainly hoped they were immune to it. The idea of someone meddling with his own mind and his perception of things was… A bit frightening. No, he wasn’t going to dwell on that thought at all.
But he smiled at Rhy’s agreement. He was glad that the man thought so… It was what helped him deal with the possibilities and loss of those particular people, anyway. “I’m glad you think so, dear…” Because even if the people here turned out to be like those at the Sphere, he still cared about them. He was still glad to have gotten to know the helpful merchants at the market and the people who ran his favourite food stands. Connections were important… His eyes darted forward as he recognized a small stone fence around a smaller home. “Ah, this seems to be one of them.” He added with a little nod to the house.
It was more of a cottage, really. Low stone walling in a small yard that looked like it needed more than its fair share of attention after being abandoned for so long. Like most places, really. A brick chimney off the side indicating that there was at least one fireplace inside, small windows along the front and around the side. Llewellyn hadn’t been particularly fond of that aspect, perhaps… He preferred larger windows, himself. But he wanted to give Rhy a chance to see everything that was possible, to get his opinions.
no subject
The magic wanted to recreate everything to 'fix' it, to make it last, unchanging. But so changed that nothing of it was truly left.
Rhy kept thinking until his lover stopped them and nodded toward the house. Rhy's attention moved to it and immediately he was cringing a little.
"Those windows are so small."
no subject
But he was happy to shift focus from darker topics to one that would mean… happiness for them. A curious expression crossed his face as Rhy seemed to cringe at the sight of it. He wasn’t displeased by the man’s reaction, after all. “Mm.. I confess, I wasn’t fond of that aspect myself. But I wanted to see what you thought, rather than not if it was something you’d like. Seemed… fairer that way?” Especially when this was for both of them, his husband’s opinion mattered to him. “I myself am… not fond of small windows, either. I rather like larger ones. I find it more pleasing to have natural light during the day.”
He turned them away from the house. There were better options out there. “Detective Murdoch’s house had windows on the ceiling, a skylight. It was… quite beautiful.” He doubted they would find anything like that here, of course… But it supported the idea of ‘nice windows are must.’ for their home.
no subject
Rhy knew it well. He'd lost his father when he was so much older and so much less ready to take a step forward in his life. One day he would have to accept that and move forward.
"The palace had many of those, but for me? I just want to see the world. There was so much from my balcony."
no subject
But the comment about a balcony gets him thinking. “Hm... That does sound lovely... An open space to enjoy the fresh air outside without having to go too far.” Llewellyn grinned a little. He liked the sound of that. They both knew how much Llewellyn needed to get outside sometimes, when the walls felt too closed in for him. “Gives me an idea of what kind of place we’re looking for as much as the things we discussed earlier.” A home with at least two floors, a small balcony off the master bedroom... Big windows... A skylight would still be nice, but he’d make do without if it wasn’t possible here.
no subject
That said, the balcony was by no means needed. It was illustrative. But there was a lot of things that never really would be possible for them.
"I like the idea of the outside, because Pretzel shall love it too."
no subject
The yard was something Llewellyn did have thoughts on. Things he thought would be nice… “A nice garden, with a little table sit outside on a nice day…” He hummed a little, “I could grow roses.” He added with a little tilt of his head, it was something he’d been wanting to try doing for his husband since they’d arrived here. And gardens were a must for Llewellyn. Houseplants were nice, but it would be good for his nerves to have an outdoor space to continue working on his gardening skills.
Whether they found a house with a balcony or not, it was something in Llewellyn’s head now. He would want to give his husband something nice, if he could, and it was something he could appreciate himself. That was, after all, the point of doing this together. Finding something that suited them both, without being too much or too little.
no subject
He came to a stop, his hands coming up to rub at his eyes. No, that isn't that simple. It's... He's so damn happy.
"We're going to make a place for ourselves, aren't we?"
Ohno... My brain is going to want to try making them a visual reference again like his Sphere office
As his husband came to a stop, Llewellyn’s steps slowed, and he turned to look at the man with some concern as he came to rub at his eyes. He leaned in and lifted a finger to catch something on Rhy’s cheek. Tears…? But the tone, the expression on his face… Happy tears… The best kind, if they needed to be shed. He offered a softer smile as he leaned in. “We are, my love. We’re going to have a place to call home together… And I couldn’t be more happy for it.”
Even saying they were going to have a home, a place for them… Yes, it struck a particular chord. Something he’d often missed in life, as with many new steps with Rhy. This was another that his beloved would make with him…
i approve
"Thank you."
Yay! :D I shall have fun with it
He’d probably have still been fussing about the apartment, trying to think of how to bring it up if Rhy hadn’t agreed to the walk and nudged him in the right direction for the conversation once they were outside.
would this perhaps be something we can close soon?
Still, he was happy now to loop his arm with his husbands.
"Show me more places."
Yeah, definitely. They've made some good progress in this thread!
As the man looped their arms together again, Llewellyn smiled and turned them towards the next neighborhood. “Of course, there’s plenty more to see.” So many options, they would be kept quite busy for the day, and likely more going forward.
