For Nida -

Today was a day that they both had off, so after breakfast, Ignis had cleaned up and got some coffee brewing. He had made quite the list in preparation for their joint meeting today and he kept having the sense of time ticking until they exchanged vows.

Clothing was sorted, food was still up in the air on some things but Ignis could whip up a lot of things in a hurry. The guest list was still to be determined, though they had spoken about a place to hold the wedding. Hopefully, the weather would cooperate and they could marry outside. But as to who was going to marry them, that was a thing that they needed to discuss too. And Ignis needed to clarify their theme and colours.

Outside - OTA

Ignis is walking around outside and is watching a few of the leaves fall. A few are turning colours and it marks the passage of time to him that he's been here almost a year. It's really strange to think about how simply landing in another world has completely changed said world. So he can be found looking at some trees just beyond a park bench. And as yet another leaf falls he smiles.

"It's quite the lovely time of year isn't it?"

Ignis put Hibiscus down when he heard the bedroom door open back up and had carried the little bird in his hand as he'd given Ebony some more food and water. Turning to look at Nida now, his breath caught in his throat. He loved when his mate 'dolled' himself up like that and he couldn't help the smile on his face.

"Don't you look quite handsome." And then he walked over to the other for a kiss, the same smile back on his face. "Yes, let's head out."

Was it dolling up? Oh Hyne, he should admit that it was. He loved the way that Ignis looked at him. Hell, he just loved that someone looked at him.

"I always want to look handsome for you," Nida answered with such open and naked hope in his voice that it was hard for it not to be awkward. Oh well. To protect himself, after the kiss, he just reached for Hibiscus's leash. Picked it, and the chicobo, up.

"Onward."

"You always do." Ignis replied, attempting to be reassuring. If they didn't have somewhere to be, he would've had Nida against the door at the moment. But they did have an appointment of sorts which had to be honoured.

However, Nida could be the main course when they got back home.

He took his fiancée's hand when they went out the door. There had seemed to be something in his mate's voice that was different and Ignis made a note of it so that he could address it. If circumstances worked, he might bring it up on their walk.

Oh, they could have him up against a door when they got back from Ignis's shift. Nida loved those times when his partner was forceful with him. It was nice, partnering with another person who loved controlling as much as being controlled.

Though if he knew he was the main course, he'd probably ask what sauce he was being served with. What? He's horrid like that.

As it was he wrapped his arm around Ignis's waist as the door was locked, already having lowered the chicobo down so she could walk on her harness and leash. Soon she would be big enough that he'd need a new harness made.

"What's on the tarven menus today?"

Ignis practically beamed when Nida put his arms around his waist. Of course the advisor was totally and utterly biased into believing he had the most handsome man on the entire planet with him and he didn't care that he was. Nida was gorgeous as he always was. And it wasn't until the other man spoke that his thoughts shifted away from wanting to turn around and go right back home.

"Crab is on the menu, but of course that can be modified if necessary."

He was known to do that on occasion if a particular set of hunters came in with meat and wanted that for supper. Same thing went for some fisherman who came into the lodge at times.

Well Nida wasn't going to argue with the idea that he's the most handsome man on the planet, provided one added 'other than Ignis' to the qualification.

"Ooooh, crab sounds lovely," Nida cooed, eyes sparkling with delight. The amount of missing ocean foods he had wasn't really fading.

"I thought you might say something along those lines." And by now he'd perfected crab cakes too, so Nida was going to be more spoiled than anyone else there by the different ways Ignis had been practicing with making crab, having utilized the cookbooks he'd borrowed from the Wizard's Tower.

"Oh are you redoing the menu just for me, dearest?" Nida asked, pulling him along and letting the chocobo folllow the best it could. "Because Hyne above I can definitely be cook with that."

"Well I certainly may have some things on hand prepared for such an occasion." And he did that out of his own pocket. For now he gently tugged upwards on the hand entwined with his and gave it a brief kiss before putting it back where it was, looking directly at Nida right after.

"I'm happy that you've decided to pay the lodge a visit."

Oh what a delight to know. Nida liked that idea, that his lover thought about what might be the best for him. He never stopped being flattered by the idea that someone cared about him, put him ahead of other things, cared about him. Loved him.

Fuck it was so good to matter to someone.

"I've had reasons not to. I'm trying to be better than I was, I don't want to become the man I was before here, before you."

"Nida.." Ignis replied a little worriedly. But then he quieted down. He could well understand why the other was saying what he was. And of course Ignis recalled how he'd tried to take the other out to dinner that night at the tavern, believing the man wasn't going in due to not having any currency.

And then he realized once he was told and Ignis had tried to give back that bit of coin. Soon after the advisor offered to cook for the man and Nida in turn offered to clean. And that led to other events.

So he gently squeezed the hand in his and locked eyes when he got a chance. "And I don't believe I ever expressed to you how much I admire your willpower in overcoming your past."

"Admire my willpower?" Nida asked, shocked as he looked to Ignis. Was that really a thing his lover had said?

"I... didn't have a lot of choice I guess. My friends, my family in the last world, they worked hard to get back back under control of my own life. Twice. I won't disrespect them or you by failing again. I refuse to fail you."

And there was a lot more hanging this time. He didn't want his to-be-husband to leave him for his failure. He would deserve it.

"I'm... trying to be the best version of myself that isn't the wreck or the soldier. It's the best I can aim for. So I had to change myself. Caelan helped for a time. He was the first person I admitted my weakness to here. I would go into his place on hard nights and he'd be there, he'd give me spiced cider instead of anything else, to keep me on the straight and narrow."

For a moment Ignis wondered if he'd said the wrong thing. But it had been a thought for a long time, and he felt bad that he was only now mentioning it. Yet despite that he tried to smile at Nida with a slight nod. "Yes, and I do realize that kind of change can't be easy at all. But you've risen to the challenge."

So when Nida stated that he didn't want to fail Ignis, he couldn't help but be really touched and so gently squeezed the hand in his again.

And this was the first that he learned of the Spiced Cider. "Well if drinking that was what helped you, I will make sure we have some at the Lodge for you." Of course he was going to have to get his hands on a recipe and maybe investigate and research this drink, but that he could certainly do. And if he had that there, maybe that would encourage his mate to show up.

"It was less that it helped me and more that it meant I could have a nightcap with a friend that wasn't caffeinated, and not feel like my condition made his life less comfortable," Nida answered, smiling to himself. "It's nice to feel like I'm part of the gathering and fun, but not beholden to consume the thing I can't trust myself with. My... You haven't seen me in the depths of my grief. I never want you to."

He had seen the marks it had left on Nida, though. The scars that he didn't hide as much now, not around Ignis. One admission was enough to earn freedom of access and evaluation.

Ignis nodded as Nida explained a little more. "If it helped you, then I don't see why we can't have that at the Lodge. After all, it may help someone else trying to recover as you have been." But his other serious thoughts just flittered away like butterflies when he saw that smile on his fiancée's face.

However, the last comment had the advisor shake his head. "You know, you're always more than welcome to share your sorrow and grief. Even if it's from something that pained you in the past, I would like to at least listen if you're ever up to it." He gently squeezed the hand in his again to convey his sincerity. He'd give hugs and even hold the man if he felt like screaming or crying.

"However, that's completely your call of course."

More like it would be a better thing to serve to those who might be too young, or too drunk, for alcohol to be a good choice.

"I've... told you before. And I've put it behind me. Or tried to. I don't want to touch it again, I don't want to be that bad."

So he intended to just keep going on with the happy life he'd found here.

Minors are only allowed access to juice or water. It wasn't much of a thing when he first started, but as he'd told Llewellyn, some of the orphans started coming in, that's when he'd had to make that rule. And he was thinking on expanding the Lodge to give them shelter for the night, that he also told the detective.

"Alright." Ignis replied with a small sigh. All he could do was be there for Nida in case the topic came up again and of course he would be supportive. It was all that he could do really.

"I'm sorry," Nida sighed, shaking his head. His free hand worried at his bracelet at his wrist. This was all a mess.

"And thank you."

Ignis noticed what Nida was doing with the bracelet and stopped a moment. "You've no need to apologize." And his green eyes tried to catch the other's gaze, confused as to what was going on. "And you've no need to thank me."

He somehow felt completely lost here.

Yes, he supposed he didn't have to thank someone. Nida licked his lips and settled back down. His fingers let the bracelet go at that point. Okay.

"Maybe one day. When I'm more ready."

"When you're more ready.." Ignis echoed softly. But then he shook his head and was mindful of a chirping Hibiscus as he took both of Nida's hands in his. "Do you perhaps need more time? We don't need to get married soon if you want more time to get to know and trust me."

He himself didn't want to cancel anything, but this wasn't about him and what he wanted. This was about Nida's needs.

What? Is he crazy? Nida looked horrified.

"Do you not want me as I am?"

Ignis shook his head at the horrified expression.

"I never said that, and of course I want you as you are. I was simply wanting to see if you wanted to give us more time. And while I've no wish to cancel our wedding, I didn't want to be so selfish if thing were seeming to go too fast."

Seriously?

"I asked you," Nida said. "If you want to slow down, fine. But I don't. I want this."

Ignis sighed and wondering how a matter of trying to be courteous, polite and understanding were turning on its proverbial head. But he let go of Nida's hands and closed his eyes for a moment before reopening them.

"Darling I'm sorry to have upset you as I have. It wasn't my intention at all. But if you wish to go ahead with our wedding, I wish to as well."
