For Nida -

Today was a day that they both had off, so after breakfast, Ignis had cleaned up and got some coffee brewing. He had made quite the list in preparation for their joint meeting today and he kept having the sense of time ticking until they exchanged vows.

Clothing was sorted, food was still up in the air on some things but Ignis could whip up a lot of things in a hurry. The guest list was still to be determined, though they had spoken about a place to hold the wedding. Hopefully, the weather would cooperate and they could marry outside. But as to who was going to marry them, that was a thing that they needed to discuss too. And Ignis needed to clarify their theme and colours.

Outside - OTA

Ignis is walking around outside and is watching a few of the leaves fall. A few are turning colours and it marks the passage of time to him that he's been here almost a year. It's really strange to think about how simply landing in another world has completely changed said world. So he can be found looking at some trees just beyond a park bench. And as yet another leaf falls he smiles.

"It's quite the lovely time of year isn't it?"

"Most adults aren't me," Nida points out. His strengths aren't something other people have access to, so he doesn't judge them for it. He just knows he's not like other people and that isn't a bad thing.

"So you're the one that gets the other meals. I thought he had someone he was taking care of," he said. It was interesting, though, that his lover hadn't told him more about Mono.

At last he offers a hand out to Mono.

"Hi. I'm Nida. Nice to meet you."

Mono nodded, “Yeah, that’s me. I hope it’s okay! It’s kinda hard to get stuff here… I got a job I’m gonna be doing soon, but Mr. Ignis has been really nice to share stuff with me.” He responded quickly, words running together a bit. Ignis might not have said much, because there wasn’t much to say when it came to Mono. The child tended to be a bit careful about what he shared now, at least after the first few people reacted in a way that made him feel pretty weird. He still let things slip now and then, unfortunate and disturbing for adults to hear about a kid as they could be, but Mono was trying to be more sociable now.

Looking at the hand for a moment, Mono finally reached out to take it and give Nida what he hoped was a good handshake. “Nice to meet ya, Nida. My name’s Mono.”

"Mr. Ignis has been really nice to share stuff with me too," Nida answered, smiling warmly. Yeah, Ignis was like that. He cares about his lover, and all the good he can offer people.

Mono? Interesting name. Nida smiles.

"So, Mono, you're coming to the wedding, right? Has Ignis offered you a role yet?"

Interesting names were… a bit of a thing in his world. At least as far as the kids went in his world, his friend’s name was Six, after all. It was hard to say if that was just true of the children with powers or if it was simply the way of things. There was no one to explain.

Mono shrugged a little. “I guess I am if people want me to go? I never saw a wedding before.” And he shook his head a little at the question. “No, sometimes he asks my opinion on stuff, though?”

No one would ever explain the useful things, woudl they? Such, sadly, was life.

"I wonder what about. But I'll talk to him. In my world there are specific roles for young friends of people getting married. I think you'd carry the rings very well."

The child tilted his head at the idea rather curiously though, a job for ‘young friends,’ huh? He did qualify as young and a friend, or at least he was pretty sure that he did. “Yeah? Huh… I guess that could be kind of fun.” Maybe a nice thing to do to say thanks for all the food and stuff. “Um… But don’t people dress up nice for stuff like that?” He had seen pictures in abandoned buildings, from before the Signal Tower warped the pale city… Weddings looked fancy, and Mono definitely did not look fancy in general.

Well that Nida waves off. Of course they do but...

"It's customary for the grooms and or brides to pay for clothes for their wedding party," he said quickly. It's not true, but hey, why can't they make it a little true.

Hey, it wasn’t like Mono had anything to refer to concerning wedding traditions beyond the pictures he’d seen and maybe the odd fairytale. The generally didn’t talk about who paid for what, after all. So the kid relaxed a little at the idea, “Oh! Well, okay… Then I guess I won't look wrong or like I don't fit in if I do.”

"You'll fit in because we want you there, and that's the only qualification that matters," Nida offered with a smile. He'll have to tell his husband-to-be about this.

But...

"You know... You could be a better climber. And sneaker."

Mono was a little skeptical of that, if his expression were anything to go by. Appearances tended to be pretty important, or at least the kid had gotten to thinking they were. He’d spent most of his life wearing a bag over his face, after all… But it was also getting easier to just accept that people in this place were a lot different from what he was used to. “If you’re sure, Mr. Nida.” He finally responded and would have to wait and see on the day that it was true.

The idea of being a better climber and sneaker definitely gets a curious look from the child. “Better than I am already? Like… Better like you?” He definitely thought Nida was better at both. The man had been the one challenge in the city to try to keep up to and spy on to figure him out.

"Better than you are right now. Better like me," Nida answered. "I've always wanted to teach someone."

Even his students back at Garden hadn't been ones he had trained in this. He's never passed the skill on like he would have wanted to. And his training said he should pass the skill on.

"It's what I do."

“It is? I thought you were a guard person.” He responded, tilting his head a little in the other direction with a curious tone. Not that he thought people couldn’t be more than one thing or have more than one job. It was just an observation that he was now intrigued with.

And Mono did like the idea of learning, after all. Nida was way less scary than the teacher back in the Pale City too, at least from his observations he felt confident in assuming that much about the guy.

“If it’s okay that I don’t got a lot of money to pay for learning, I guess that’d be kinda good? I still sometimes get caught where I’m from… So being better at it would be really helpful when I go back.” He paused, “I’d have to learn when I wasn’t working though, I got a job now.” Mono added, sounding just the slightest bit proud of himself for finally having one.

Oh Mono, he's far more complicated than just being one thing or another thing. He smiles at the idea of being a guard ever having a chance of fully changing his nature. Sure, he'd been changing, softening even, but an excuse to return to the peace that the heights gave him...

He needed it. He just hoped his husband wouldn't be ashamed of his choice.

"The payment you can give me will be in learning," Nida answered, arms crossing sternly over his chest. "I'm not taking money from a kid. Whether you have it or not, I don't care. These are skills that are meant to be passed from master to student. But I am proud that you have a job."

Mono couldn’t help but blink a little as Nida responded, tugging the brim of his hat down a little lower over his eyes before he smiled a bit. “You and Mr. Ignis are both really weird about taking money for stuff.” They were alike in that sense, at least when it came to him… Being a kid was not something special where he was from anymore, so it was pretty strange to think that it mattered at all. But he was learning better here and trying to remember that it was okay to let people help.

And he certainly wasn’t going to turn his nose up at free lessons. There was so much he had to learn already, and most of it he would have to learn on his own when he went back… So this? Getting better at sneaking and climbing and stuff? It was important.

“I promise I’ll work really hard to learn then, so I don’t waste your time or anything.” Mono finally responded in a quieter, serious tone. He could do that much, right? It sounded like a big deal if these were skills that were meant to be passed on to someone else. And Mono found it was nice for someone to say they were proud of him. It gave him a nice happy (?) feeling… So maybe he could do well with learning this too, and make people proud for other reasons.

Oh, he would always be weird about money. But back home he had more than enough and here he was content with his lot, so whatever, it didn't matter. Because for him, back home, being a kid hadn't been special since he was, well, Mono's age. After that, he'd been a weapon in training.

"Good. Because I don't like it when people slack on me," Nida answered. "And this won't be easy. I hope you keep up."

“No slacking, I promise!” He responded quickly, holding out his hand to shake like it was a deal. That’s what adults did when they came to an agreement… Right? Mono had seen a few people around the city do it, so he was hoping he was right about that.

The child had to tilt his head curiously at the next words. “Lots of stuffs not easy, but giving up doesn’t make go away…” It just got you caught or worse, where he was from. “I’m good at keeping ahead of stuff, so I think I can learn to keep up too.” Well, that was a touch over-confident perhaps… Mono never considered the fact that adrenaline had probably given him an edge in the past. But at least he was eager to try.

It was, and Nida smiled, taking that hand and shaking it carefully. He didn't hold on longer than needed, though, because he didn't want the kid to feel awkward.

But the thing the kid said, it made him nod solemnly. This one? This one got the spirit of Garden. Got the spirit of the world that got NIda to where he was today. Which wasn't always good. But damn if he didn't smile.

"It's going to be hard work, and I think you'll handle it. I'll find out my schedule and we'll find some night to start working."

And Mono understood quite well by now from following Nida around that the man (like most adults here) had a busy schedule. So he gave a quick nod. “Okay!” He turned and waved at the gray building. “I just live over there, on the first floor if you need to find me.”

He paused for a moment before continuing thoughtfully. “Or I guess you can call me on the tell-phone thing. But people can’t always hear me right on that, it doesn’t work good for me like it does for other people.” So coming to find him was probably easier and meant less confusion.

"First floor of residences huh? Which room?"

He had no problem climbing up to the window. Sure, he COULD use the stairs from the public spaces up to the first floor of apartments, but was that NEARLY so fun?

“I’m in A-10 according to the door, down on the end of the hall!” He responded quickly, more happy with that arrangement. He really didn’t like the tell-phone much, even without how his powers messed with it.

That said, Nida showing up and entering in through his window would possibly be a rather… Startling situation.

"Ah, that won't be hard at all," Nida offered with a smile before considering the other and pausing.

"I want to pat you on the shoulder. It's something I tend to do with my students to reassure them. But if the touch isn't okay, I don't want to do it."

Mono considered the question carefully. He wasn’t averse to touch so much as he wasn’t used to it from people other than Six back in his world. Though his instincts to hold the hands of a friend were still pretty strong here when he made them. “I dunno… I guess it’s okay? If it’s supposed to be a good thing, um… As long as I know you’re gonna do it?” Did that sound weird? He wasn’t sure, but it needed to be said. He was used to being chased and grabbed at by the things in his world, so it might startle him otherwise.

"Alright then. I'm going to now," Nida said, and he reached out to do so, patting the kid's shoulder just a little bit. Once that was done his hand pulled back.

"My husband-to-be and I have a lot of work we have to do today, so I must beg off of your company right now. I'msorry."

Mono decide that a pat on the shoulder was actually kind of nice. Maybe it would be less so if Nida hadn’t warned him or asked in the first place, but he definitely wouldn’t mind it again in the future.

But the comment gets a hurried nod, knowing that Nida and Ignis were probably pretty busy indeed. “That’s okay! I just um… wanted to finally say hello.” Introductions had been a long time coming, and now it felt kind of silly to have waited this long. “I gotta go and check on some friends too.” He raised a hand and waved. “I’ll see you later, Mr. Nida! Thank you.”

"Hello Mono. And you can just call me Nida, or Master. Whichever pleases you. NOw I need to go catch my husband and chicobo before they make trouble."

He doesn't know which will make the trouble, but he knows someone will.
