Down an unknown road

There had been an idea in the back of his mind for a month or so, probably for longer if he thought it over. And it really hit home when he saw Mono and thought of his younger cousins Kisa and Momiji. What if somehow they showed up here? It had bugged him and the thought stayed in the back of his mind that he couldn't be a casualty like Jacob had been or even Caelan if some demon should appear again. Of course the more he tumbled it around in his mind, the more he recalled Miss Yuna being out there fighting too that night. And he'd done nothing but stayed in his little apartment, hoping nothing bad happened.

But what if children had gotten hurt? While he certainly wasn't Miss Honda, he was sure she would've been out there too that night, trying to save as many kids as she possibly could while that demon thing roamed the streets. After all, she'd gone after Kyo when he'd transformed into that awful monstrosity after his bracelet had been taken off by Shishou. And while he could fight Kyo all day long and win, that wasn't the point here. Their little petty fights were child's play compared to this place.

He had to be more useful than just growing flowers and medicinal plants.

As he'd accused Kyo, saying 'maybe it's not like a hero's supernatural power' but to 'get a clue and realize that there's only things you can do.' Right. And that included wanting to keep the kids safe. Maybe not for himself, but for adults who couldn't fight at all. Maybe they couldn't protect their kids.

What if he'd been stronger and had been able to protect his friends that night from their cruel fates?

So this made him get dressed and head out to find the one person that knew Jacob too. The man he sought had trained his boyfriend and had always been so proud to display the moves he'd learned. So it couldn't hurt to at least ask. Standing in front of the Red apartment now, he raised his hand to knock on the door. But as he went to do so, a lady came by and told him that Mister Nomura had moved to the Green apartments.

Informing Yuki as to which particular unit Nida was currently occupying, the silver haired man felt his nerves gnawing at his insides. But he couldn't fail people anymore. He couldn't run away like he'd accused Kyo of doing when the orange haired boy had said he had 'failed to protect' Miss Honda. No, he had to do this.

He stood in front of the correct green door and sighed, looking at it with a stern face. He had to do this, so he raised his hand and knocked.

"That doesn't make me a hero," Nida answered, his voice soft. "I know what I am. And what I was. I'm not a hero."

Please, Yuki, don't make him say the horrible things he's done and he is.

"I am a man tied to duty, nothing else."

"Okay." Yuki replied. He remained totally unconvinced, but he wasn't going to argue with the man. This was his teacher and he was supposed to be learning though in a sense he was learning how the man saw himself and it made Yuki sad even if he wouldn't give a voice to that emotion.

Of course seeing how Nida saw himself made one sad. Sometimes Nida had to wonder if the reason his fiance loved him so much was because he saw and recognized that sadness in Nida and wanted to take it away. Which was a bit upsetting, but he thought he could accept it, could live with it.

"I'm sorry," Nida sighs as he gestures for the young man to resume his ready stance that Nida taught him. He'll correct it of course. "In my world, when it was ending, everything was sort of... Well it had sort of happened? Time loops, they suck."

Immediately Yuki readied himself but he listened. He had no idea what Nida was referring to as far as an ending to his world and a time loop. But the sigh had been enough to tell him he'd better stop questioning everything. It seemed the man was sad enough already without his adding to it.

"You don't have to talk about it anymore if you don't want to."

Somehow he had the feeling he stepped over the line somehow.

"No, I feel like you need to understand," Nida said, but his eyes said he really was evaluating Yuki's form. His stock reaches out again to tap Yuki's legs slowly into position.

"My world has sorceresses. Women corrupted by magic. One tried to end the world. Her powers were related to the manipulation of time, and she wanted to boil all of time down to a single instance where only she could exist."

"That sounds pretty terrifying." Yuki replied, making sure he kept his form. "And..I guess you couldn't tell why she'd want to do such a thing." That made no sense to him and he really tried to fathom as to why a person would want to be in a place where only they existed. It just seemed pretty pointless.

And lonely.

"But..she's not here is she?" He almost put sensei on the end but had stopped himself just in time.

"She was crazy," Nida answered with a shrug. "But she was defeated. And in the moment time restored itself it sent someone I knew far back into his own past. Where he said something that established the Gardens. Basically defeating her created the event that would lead to defeating her."

And that would one day lead to her existence. It was annoying.

"Ultimecia, here? Fuck no. And Hyne help us all if she ever was. Her magic is potent."

The events sensei was describing sounded fantastically confusing and definitely mind warping, even as time itself had been warped. It was weird to think about and it was certainly headache inducing at the very least.

But then Nida sounded pretty emphatic when talking about this Ultimecia showing up here. This somehow made him want to get all of this down pat. He wasn't a superhero, just as much as he'd told the annoying cat he wasn't one. But too, he'd said there were things only he could do. Yuki was going to have to take his own advice here.

"The way you talk, she can't be defeated at all." Even though she had.

"She was defeated. Time is safe. But one day she will arise in her time, and the only thing that will stop her is what has already stopped her," Nida answered. The future past is all a mess.

He moved forward and let his hands push at Yuki's shoulders so they could be in the right position.

"But if she shows up, I'll do my best."

He let Nida push on his shoulders and wanted to tell the man that he'd be right beside him. But he figured his presence wouldn't matter as much as long as he had Mister Ignis there with him so he didn't say anything, he just nodded.

"That's all anyone can ask."

Sensei.

The boy had no magic, and thus likely little resistance to magic. That would make standing against a Sorceress harder. Worse, what if he was taken as a knight? Nida might have to hurt him. No, Nida didn't like that idea.

"People tend to ask a lot more than most of us can give, actually."

Yuki somehow felt as if there was somehow a rebuke hidden in those words. All he could do was train as hard as he could and do the very best that he could in order to try and make what difference he could.

And there was nothing he could think to say in return. Maybe somehow he'd upset the man. Did that mean they shouldn't train right now? He had no idea, so he just waited in silence.

No rebuke. Just an observation. He didn't want his young student hurt. Once he was certain of the stance Nida smiled and nodded that Yuki could stop.

"Tell me what you like to eat. I'll get us food and then we can sit and talk about weapons theory."

He stood and waited for Nida and then it seemed sensei told him he could stop. So that was when he let out a small sigh and looked at his teacher questioningly regarding the food.

"I'm not picky." And really he wasn't. "So I'll have whatever you're having." It was at times like this that he missed Miss Honda and the meals she cooked. Yuki couldn't hope to duplicate the homey atmosphere she'd made Shigure's house.

"You know, it's okay to have a preference," Nida laughed as he moved to get his discarded things. He'd need to take a walk to find food. "I'm not going to judge you if you ask for what you want."

Yuki smiled. "I'm used to eating fish and rice more than anything else." He wasn't sure sensei would know where Japan was or what it was, so he tried to stick to the basics of the basics of their diet in his mind.

Fish and rice wasn't so bad actually. But Nida smiled and nodded.

"I'll see what I can find," he said with a smile as he stretched. "You can walk with me if you want. Or you can just continue practicing or nap. There's a cot in the other room."

He shook his head. "I can go with you, if you don't mind. It'll help me get a better idea as to what's in this area good wise if I should happen to come here another time without you." Which of course he had absolute zero intention of actually doing, but it never hurt to know someplace new.

"Alright then," Nida said brightly. "Let's get going, Yuki."

Because there was no time like the present to go exploring for food.

He nodded and stopped as he looked at Hibiscus. "Is your chick going to come with us too?" And that made him wonder if maybe he should be bringing Haru around too just in case.

Oh, right. Nida had almost forgotten about her. He took a deep breath and went to go gather the little bird from where she had curled up to nap.

"She'll need to eat anyway, so I'll need to hit a stall in the market that has greens. I should really gate off an area for her to run around in when she's here. Maybe bring Julia so that Hibiscus doesn't get in trouble."

"You want to bring your cat to watch your bird?" Somehow that didn't sound logical in his mind but then again Yuki was just asking and wasn't going to make a judgement call. Normally in nature he knew how things like that worked. But if sensei had some sort of plan otherwise, than he wasn't going to say anything.

But purchasing more greens was always a good idea.

"Julia is a peacock cat. She's a bit different from a normal cat. She acts like both a cat and a bird. Mostly a cat. But Hibiscus sees the feathers and thinks maybe Julia is another chocobo, and it can lead to her behaving when Julia thwaps her beak."

It can be interesting living with a cat, a bird, and a cat-bird. One had to think about how they all fit together.

"Soon Hibiscus will be bigger than Julia and I'm going to have to pamper Julia more to make up for it. She might need another new collar. Or perhaps a beaded harness..."

"A peacock cat." Yuki replied, thinking of course of the ginger cat that he knew. And of course it was going to be a very unflattering comparison because that cat would never be able to match up to a real cat. But he didn't say as much and just kept going.

But he could see how Hibiscus might get confused. "Well..should I bring Haru around so that they could do..chocobo things?" Maybe the company would help both of them for all Yuki knew. It could of course be a potentially bad thing but at least he could throw the suggestion out there.

The kid had a chocobo, huh? That might not be a bad idea.

"I'll make sure to get a fence set up then," Nida agreed. They could scatter some straw for bedding too. Seemed the best plan for everything. "We'll need the fence to be high. Chocobos are really good jumpers."
