Aerith it is, then. [He responded, at least he’d had enough experience with dropping the usual formalities he’d grown up with to not hesitate or accidentally slip in another ‘miss’ before her name.] And I certainly would agree, there are so many uses or meanings behind plants… I’m sure having a place to go for them would be welcome, especially if someone needs something to brighten their day and the room.

[There’s a lighter, hopeful sound in his tone as he responded to her next words. Llewellyn always had an incredibly driven desire to learn, even Murdoch could attest to it. Though he might also argue that inventions were not something Llewellyn had an aptitude for handling. But flowers? The younger detective had found that he quite liked the fussing and the care that went into them.] Then I’ll be a dedicated student, I assure you.

[He paused at her question, humming a little. It was rather odd, and he supposed he couldn’t blame her for asking…]

Well, uh— I’d spent a lot of my life rather focused on my work… And there were certain aspects of the world I was born in that made it rather difficult for me to branch out? [That’s a weak attempt at humour, really. But it’s there, because talking about a past that seemed so far away now was odd.] And I certainly intend to continue being a detective, I’m good at it— [He means it as a fact, not a brag. Llewellyn wasn’t really the sort to do so.] but someone made me realize that perhaps hiding so deeply in it wasn’t good, and another friend was rather encouraging of my like for flowers, so it seems like a good opportunity. New world, new things…?

I’m fond of languages and flowers both, so floriography seemed like a nice way to say something to someone without really saying it. I gave several friends a friendship bouquet to thank them around the holidays, and my husband a courtship bouquet when I had intended to take our relationship more seriously— [A decidedly awkward pause there, before he added,] admittedly I didn’t think that one through all the way, but it worked out. After that… I suppose I’ve been wanting to do more ever since. Kept meaning to get houseplants before I got swept into this place.
