1 - Tellphone

[Clearing his throat a little, Llewellyn tried to think of where to start, he’s been snooping around for a few days and compiling some notes.]

Hello! I’m sure everyone is rather used to these sorts of broadcasts now, but uh— I’ve only just arrived in the last few days. My name is Llewellyn Watts-Maresh, to get introductions out of the way.

I’ve been catching up on the goings on already, seems like there’s a lot going on right now that I’d like to offer my assistance with. So! I’ll skip directly to the main point of my broadcast.

While this world is a significant improvement on my last... I’m finding myself in need of a starting point. I’m accustomed to having an office to work from, but I don’t believe I’ll have the funds to open something myself from the start. Is there possibly a private investigation firm already that would be looking for a detective? I… don’t need much space. I’ve gotten used to taking my work outdoors in the past, but a desk to keep my notes and work at on occasion would be appreciated.

[And he paused, humming a little as he mulled over a secondary thought he’d been playing with since he arrived.]

That aside, I’m also knowledgeable with floriography. Even if this worlds is different from my own, I’m a fast study. I’ve had practice in making arrangements for various meanings and occasions, and before I was pulled here I was dabbling in gardening…? So if anyone is looking for some part-time help there, I wouldn’t mind doing that on the side. I uh— I like to keep busy.

[And if he and his husband ever do figure out how to purchase a home, he knows they’ll need the money for it. Being cooped up in a small apartment is not ideal long term.]

Mm… That should do it, thank you.

2 - Historium

Llewellyn might have been a little slower to get here than he normally would have been, too distracted with this new world and getting his feet under him. But any sort of library was a good starting point to see what kind of references were available when you wanted to investigate and learn more about certain things about a place that might not be readily available through word of mouth. Or things that were just easier to find out on your own, as he was prone to doing.

It was… a lot more disorganized than the last giant library he’d frequented, but that actually wasn’t a big issue for the detective. His thought process already tended towards the chaotic and scattered, so he actually felt rather at home in the place. It wasn’t hard to start at one shelf, scan the titles, and grab something before he continued onward.

Anyone around the Historium would see Llewellyn either with a few books under his arm, or sitting on a table (using the chair as a footrest) and leafing through a selection curiously. Once in a while, he’d stop, jot a few thoughts down in messy scrawl in his notebook, and then continue reading…

He’s not so absorbed in his task that he doesn’t notice anyone else around him. Llewellyn could be quite paranoid and didn’t enjoy being surprised, so unless you’re particularly sneaky, he would be quite aware if someone were to approach…

3 - Market

There were several places that Llewellyn could be guaranteed to be found if you needed him. The first being where ever he worked (he truly was a workaholic at times), with his husband (obvious, perhaps), and the market… The last being because Llewellyn usually found himself in need of a snack every few hours, he tended to think better on a full stomach and his metabolism was rather high given how little he sat around.

It was also his other go to for making contacts and gathering information on a place. People talked, especially shop and food stall employees. They saw or heard about everything going on in the city, after all, and if you were a frequent enough customer, they tended to appreciate your business enough to be on friendly terms.

Given this was another new world… Llewellyn was starting from scratch. So over the course of his first few weeks in this place, through the day, he’d take a stroll through the market whenever he was feeling hungry. Every time he’d stop somewhere, he’d take a few minutes to chat and get to know the person working, he might not remember names right away, but if he stopped there frequently enough he’d start to commit things to memory (and he certainly wrote more important conversations down).

If approached, Llewellyn would actually be quite happy to talk, as long as no one minded his snacking… He’d even offer to share.

[In Llewellyn’s opinion, asking questions was usually a good idea… at least until the wrong question got asked and he found himself in trouble with someone. The hazards of being curious.] My current guess would be those in charge did, but it could be more complicated than that…

[Had his idea been that good? He smiled a little, maybe it was something to mention. He’d already caught his husband leaving his on the counter on more than one occasion. Keeping in touch was not going to be easy at this rate.] If they do take requests, perhaps I’ll mention it if I ever have their attention. Uh— after the more important questions are out of the way, of course.

[Even if he did tend to jump around a bit.

The detective frowned a little at the fact that she’d had to deal with not one but two unhinged and evil individuals…] They’re always the more difficult to deal with, harder to pin down and stop. [Especially when they somehow had so much support, the people closest to them were so very blind.]

They're called Aspects or something, right? I wish I knew more about them. [ Were the benevolent people in charge or were they another Shinra? That was the worrisome part of things. ]

I thought that was an important question. [ Aww, now she's sad that it wasn't a priority suggestion. ] I hope they do take requests though. Or at the very least that they'll talk to us. [ It'd be nice to hear from them.

Sadness edged into her voice when she spoke again. ] Sounds like you've got some experience too. I think the worst part is that they really don't seem to understand that they're not right. [ At least she was pretty sure that was the case for Sephiroth. Hojo on the other hand? He may realize it and just not care. ]

"Most people do not think of it because most people do not know of it. Which is for the best. Would you want it to be common knowledge that souls could be ripped out and weaponized?" It was bad enough that she knew how to do it. Even worse than people like Witchfire and Belasco knew how. Imagine if it was just common knowledge. No, that wouldn't be good at all. Not just because it'd make things harder for her.

"It's hard to miss in the marketplace." Not that she actually ever went there by walking. Usually when she wanted to find him she just used her stepping discs to teleport in. It was more amusing to see Jagger surprised by a sudden appearance. She really loathed the day that he got used to it. "I have heard others with similar sentiments. I have a team back home, though I still mostly prefer to work alone." And despite having an actual team that she'd worked with for years she still preferred to keep things to herself. There were a lot of times she could have told people of her plans and discussed it with them. Perhaps it might have even helped. Then again in all the timelines she'd gone to, them knowing things had never worked out for the better.

"No? It can be rather boring sometimes." Though a few of the more pleasant and calm times had their negative parts to them, like the truth dessert at the ball. "That's very logical of you." She tilted her head and seemed vaguely uninterested in explaining. "In my own world the Demon Bear was one of the first big entities my team and I banished together. It was a demon that ruled the Badlands." Did she realize that she should explain what that place was? Yes. Was she going to without prompting? No. "Dani was haunted by it in her dreams before she eventually attempted to take it on herself. That went poorly to say the least." Her tone was soft there and her mouth curled into a little frown. Dani had nearly died for that and Illyana would never not hold that against the demon. Nobody hurt the New Mutants. "It fed off negative emotions and could corrupt and manipulate human souls. The only thing that was able to stop it was my soulsword. Here it seemed similar, smaller, but it still fed on negative emotions. It felt...off. Similar but not the same one. It was able to be stopped by other means so perhaps it was some imperfect copy." That was all she could really guess about it. Somehow the portal had brought in knowledge of her world allowing this place to create a copy that wasn't quite as strong or right.

"Yes, the locals seem to change when the world changes. Perhaps they were created by this world as well," she said with a shrug. "From what the Aspects have announced they attempted to use a machine here, a portal, to return us to our homeworlds after they lost contact with their creator. They failed to take into consideration that they did not know how the portal worked and ended up injuring themselves and breaking the portal. Now it....pulses?" Her tone and expression showed her dislike for the Aspects and their meddling.

Wait, was he really offering her another pretzel? Her expression actually brightened and she...smiled at him as she took it. Oh no, that certainly got him some points that made her almost...consider liking him. Or at least having a better opinion of him. "You are generous." And because of that she would let anymore teasing about him burning things in toasters go. For now.

"I see, so you are the would be heroic type. Unfortunate." Those ones always either got themselves hurt or eventually ended up broken inside. That would be a sad fate to see befall this man. Perhaps she could consider looking out for him.

"And a lot that were ongoing by other people." It wasn't the ideal situation, but he was trying to make the most of it. The locals had been understanding thus-far, but that didn't mean they'd stay that way. He nodded at Watts' observation also. Things were always going missing, people too, and there were very few places besides the local watch they could turn. It was fruitful work, and rewarding when all was said and done, but Lord if it wasn't stressful some days. "Everyone's always eager to use a detective. They closest they've got to it other than me is the Watch, and they're more akin to guards than policemen. They can chance a cutpurse through the street, but they're not going to find out who did in the poor serving girl in the back alley, or if they do, it's going to be on hearsay and nothing akin to evidence."

"It probably does. I've got a theory it exists in every world, just in different degrees and different people can touch it. Maybe in yours, those who could are all gone." He hesitated to continue, wondering how much he could trust this guy with his abilities. It was a brief hesitation, though. Ultimately, he was pretty damned tame when it came to 'magic'. "Where I come from, actual maguses are whispered about, but I've never met one. I...touch things. It's...hard to explain, but I guess I can try. Lamely...I'm psychic..."

And then Watts said something that caught his attention more. "Hang on. You're from another place...like this?"

Yes, I believe their names are Halcyn and Athony if I was informed correctly. I do as well, beyond the more common knowledge… I’m hoping to hear more from others who’ve arrived before us. [Because it was worrisome to not know much about those in charge, and after some of the things he’d been blindsided with in the last world… He didn’t want to risk that here. Not if they could help it.]

Oh— It is, but there are just a few things ahead of it. [He responded quickly,] What with some of the things that went on in the last world, and some general questions about living here… I’ve been trying to work out a list.

[Hopefully whichever Aspect he managed to gain an audience with was patient enough to let him get through them all.] I think their willingness to talk and take requests into consideration would be a good measure of what we can expect in some ways.

[It would be a starting point, and those were important.

Llewellyn fell silent for a moment, it didn’t seem right to bring about a darkened mood after all.But they both seemed to have some experience with individuals who were less sane with very poor moral compasses…] Unfortunately, it’s a constant in most worlds from what I’ve seen. [A small thoughtful sound escaped, not about to go into details.] But I’ve always thought it was best to at least try to stop them, to make things better. That’s um… all we can do.

Llewellyn had to admit… “That’s a very good point. People are too prone to taking advantage of things that would shift their positions of power in the world.” It was bad enough the amount of things he’d seen without the kind of complication that presented… Though he was still reasonably sure that it wasn’t a thing that had been possible in his world, at least not that anyone had seen… Thankfully…

“With a name like the Gullwings, I don’t imagine it is.” Provided it had an obvious sign, he supposed. Even if it didn’t though, the locals could probably nudge him in the right direction if he did somehow miss it. He offered a small smile, “It depends on the team, my original place of work was… Less than pleasant, I worked alone more often than not. At least until they decided that I didn’t… fit… But I moved on quickly enough— and as I said, the last world provided some interesting connections and people to talk to.” So he hoped to find the same here, at least he was going to try to. “So I can see the benefits of working on your own or working in a team.” He ended with a small gesture. Not that working alone was particularly smart in some situations, he was lucky to be alive and not very murdered.

Llewellyn would have been quite glad to have missed that ball, he would have undoubtedly been a victim of food given his appetite. Of all the things he tended to be suspicious of, food was rarely something he thought to be cautious around. But he offed a little shrug and a grin at the comment. “I’m a detective, we’re supposed to be.” He responded a little more lightly, though his expression returned to its rather serious state as she explained the bear in more detail. Yes, it wasn’t complete given he didn’t know what the place was, but the bear itself was the point and he appreciated her going into more detail. There were a few points in particular that were rather interesting, though most of it sounded horrific.

“A copy of what existed in your world… And it was one of your first notable entities that your uh— team dealt with. I wonder if it’s significance had something to do with it being brought through the portal.” A random thought that popped out more than anything, if only because it was hard to not think about its connection to her… Like nightmares in the last world were often related to fears of specific arrivals… maybe some of the things that made appearances here were more likely to be connected to some of the arrivals. Made him wonder what else could slip through to this place. “Definitely something you wouldn’t have wanted to deal with a second time. Even if it wasn’t a perfect copy.” He added with a small frown, especially given the implications as she mentioned her friend. “Thank you for giving me more details.” He added with a small frown. It gave him something to think about, another strange details about this world… A strange, horrifying detail.

Annnd when you added in her next explanation, that was another whole level of concern. “So they’re influenced by the world itself, or—” The Aspects, perhaps… Or this mysterious, absent creator. Not something he wanted to consider, but hard to rule out given what he’d seen in the last world. “That’s worrying… In the last world I was in, most of the time the locals were welcoming and friendly, unless something manipulated them to change. The entity there did it for the experiment…” Which was part of why they’d turned so severely, and also how they’d come to realize that they weren’t real. An awkward little huff and he turned his attention to the matter of the aspects. “So they’re in charge but… They’re not the highest power, and they don’t know how their portal works.” And they broke it. They broke it and now it malfunctioned. “Less than ideal…”

Of course, Llewellyn liked to eat with others. It was how he bonded and got to know people. If you ate together you talked and eventually you were friends… Or something like that. “I’ve always been of the mind that snacks are best shared, and as you pointed out… I have a lot, they probably won’t be too missed.” He added with an easier smile for a moment, until he let his shoulders sink a bit at her next comment. “I don’t know about heroic, but I’m not in the habit of standing aside when things happen.” Her thoughts weren’t wrong though, his penchant for self sacrifice and caring too much might get him one day.

“Another stack of work on top of the other, then.” He responded with a small frown, that was a lot to contend with when you were working alone. “The unfortunate thing about a place like this, there’s never any warning when people leave.” So when your coworkers disappeared, keeping up with the load would be hard. That wasn’t even counting the upset at having lost someone, which tended to either slow him down or push him into doing too much.

His frown turned a little more thoughtful, he hadn’t looked into the guard much yet. He also wasn’t entirely surprised to hear it, they weren’t made for investigations, not really… Or at least they weren’t really taught or expected to. Rhy came from a time similar to this in that sense, and their discussions on how he did his job had been a point of interest to the man. Regardless, the fact that this world kept Jagger so busy and there seemed to be a need for more prompted him to continue, “Don’t suppose you could use another detective to help with the caseload?” It made the most sense, he wasn’t going to be able to afford to open his own office, his priorities were to make sure he and his husband were stable here… And as long as he could still help people and put his mind to work? He’d be happy with that.

That was another interesting theory to add to the collection, yes, he had a collection now. “Mm… I suppose that might explain some of the older stories in my world. And I confess… Most people from worlds that aren’t my own seem to all at least know of the existence of magic and the otherworldly in their worlds. It seems like more of a normality, while mine is an odd difference. In my husband’s world, magic was everywhere. Apparently there were doors…? And they had to close them, cutting off the flow to what he called the ‘gray world,’ which he thinks sounds like mine. Others have suggested it’s just hidden by those who have it for various reasons.” Llewellyn couldn’t say one way or the other, “All I know is I’ve still got some catching up to do to learn about it and understand how it works here too.”

Arching a brow at the rather hesitant pause from Jagger, wondering what he was debating on internally… Or at least that was how it struck him. When he spoke, however, the other brow rose in surprise to join the first, “Ah— so…” He took a moment to try to piece the brief explanation together, “You touch things and… see something?” That was a thing some said psychics got, right? Visions of a sort? At least he vaguely remembered George talking about the idea on occasion. Or it had probably been George, he was one of the few liked to think about such things.

He blinked a little, drawing to a halt as Jagger realized what he’d meant by being in another world. “Yup— well… I don’t know if I’d say it was like this… It was an experiment at the bottom of the ocean. I was there for a year after I was pulled to it from my own world, and… Well, a few days ago I found myself here.”

Very good at it. Lauri-Ell smiles widely. She likes the praise over her new constructive work.

"I make very many and very good nails," she answered. It is appropriate work for an apprentice. She is proud.

But she is intrigued by all this man says. Plants, for an office. How lovely to think of.

"So plants can be tamed to indoor spaces? I have read of this. A friend of mine and myself are trying to make a greenhouse. I have found a source of glass. We are excited."

“A very helpful practice in a place that seems to need it’s fair share of repairs.” He responded with a smile before he paused a little to consider her question.

“Some can be, yes. While others don’t thrive as well without proper conditions.” He responded, thinking back on some of the reading he’d been doing to figure things out before he arrived in this world. “I’m still learning, of course, which is why I suppose I’m not opposed to finding a side job where I might be able to learn more.”

Llewellyn tilted his head, curiosity sneaking into his tone at her mention of a greenhouse. “Greenhouses are an excellent environment to take care of plants, and they’re mm… quite lovely in genera. There were a few in my world I liked to visit— Where are you going to be putting it?” Because, of course, he would want to see it when it did exist.

"Yes, but how useful are maps?" Rhy asked.

He supposed he was too used to the Sphere, where things changed how they connected constantly. maps were so useless there.

“Depends on how frequently things change here, I suppose…” He responded with a small frown, “But it wouldn’t be bad to start with a vague idea of directions while we try to figure things out.”

Though having a map meant he would have had less of an excuse concerning his penchant for getting directions messed up. Perhaps that was for the better for now, though he still was anxious to work out paths they could take. “I hope the buildings aren’t far from each other, at least.” He added, wondering how far apart these colour coded buildings might be from each other.

"We could learn together," she offers with a wide smile. Yes, more helpers for the flowers.

"It will be on the roof of Blue Dorm."

Well wasn't that an interesting point. Shouldn't it change a lot? The last place had. But yes, they should figure this out.

"If they are color coded, would it not be logical they are near each other to better justify applying color?

This place has a directory?

[Harry found that a little hard to believe, but then again, he supposed he's seen weirder things.]

Yeah, I heard that, but I don't know how useful a bestiary would be if things come from all over.

"That they are." Ignis replied lifting a hand to scratch under the chocobo's head. Of course he'd learned this was one of her favourite things and the bird quickly learned that he loved to spoil her.

It was then that he noticed the man was looking more at him now and was giving out dishes that he'd never heard of. However the scholar in him was immediately intrigued and mentally pondered what these dishes looked like. "Crab cakes?" Ignis asked, interested. And he had to think if he'd ever heard of anyone making crab bisque. And the more he thought about it, the more he had to silently admit that was a thing he hadn't heard of.

He had access to cookbooks and of course this was something he planned to fully investigate. Maybe it was time to get in the kitchen after doing a bit of research.

Oh, it's nice to know their names. I wonder if they know ours. [ That'd be kinda creepy if they did, so, hopefully the answer to that is no. ] I'll let you know if I hear anything else about them. [ Seems like the least she can offer. ]

I guess I can allow a few questions before it. [ She teases. ] I hope they'll be willing, even if it's just a bit of their time.

[ If he could see he'd see that she looked a little bit sad, thankfully he can't so she can try her best to sound as though she's not bothered. ] That's not surprising to hear. [ Disappointing though. ] You're right though. And we're going to stop them back home. I know we will.

"Ya." Yuki replied, looking around the room now. It still felt odd to be here at work when everyone else (Ok Jagger) had gone home for the evening but it gave him time to be alone in an environment that wasn't his apartment. But he did catch the 'last world' comment and it puzzled him. "I'm sorry..did you say last world?" Was this man a world traveler too much like Mister Nomura? Was he the only one that hadn't world hopped? Even Jacob had said he had too, right?

Everything was just so very confusing.

And somehow it seemed this man was on a mission to check out the resources available. He himself had combed them and combed them but it never hurt to have a second set of eyes on a situation he supposed and he gave a tiny smile over the phone at the thank you. "You're welcome. You're going to check them both out then, right?" For some reason Yuki really hoped this guy would be able to come up with new information that he hadn't been able to.

Even maybe information to go home.

“Oh— I’d like that, thank you.” He responded with a smile, it would be nice. He hadn’t really known anyone in the last world who would have joined him in this endeavour… It was almost a nice start to his arrival, a new friend and an offer to do something interesting. Even if there were so many other things he had to first, it was a small comfort in all the strangeness of finding himself somewhere new again.

“The blue dorm… Hmmm… I think I might actually be supposed to stay there? They gave a bag with a blue key— er… actually everything is blue, now that I think about it.” He responded, glancing at the bag tucked under his arm.

“Mm… I would hope, but I’m hesitant to believe things will simply be logical after the way some things in the last world were.” He responded, shaking his head a little. “We don’t yet know what they look like, or why we’ve even been assigned to specific buildings.” He was still glad to be here, and determined to make sure they had a place together, but the part of his brain that had to question things couldn’t help itself.

“But we’ll see… Maybe you could uh— ask someone on the way about which way we should head?” He added, returning to the topic of directions. After all, Rhy was more charming and better at approaching people. Or at least that was how it seemed to him, especially compared to how clumsy he could be at times.

Uh— Yup… [He responded with a little nod,] A spherical device, I’ve been given the impression that it can be difficult to deal with.

[Yes, he knows how that sounds.

There’s a small, disappointed frown in his tone at the next comment though…]

That’s a good point… I suppose it’s more like wishful thinking on my part. I’ve always either learned from books or by hands-on experience… So I’d hoped to start with the former.

[But it was what it was, and this seemed like something that needed looking into. People were dying.]

Llewellyn’s brows rose at the question, now he was interested himself. Did they not make crab cakes in other worlds?

One could point out that he didn’t make them either, but he did eat them on occasion. “Mm… They’re small, fried cakes with crab and other seasoning in them? They’re a simple dish, I suppose, but quite delicious.” Llewellyn responded, lowering his pretzel snack while he gestured with his free hand rather animatedly. Food was an exciting topic, and admittedly the detective was always curious about dishes from other worlds or eras that were later than his.

"Yes, blue things means living in the blue building," she offered with a wide grin. "We shall be... what was the word Carol used? Ah! Neighbors!"

More people in her own home. This was good and exciting.

[That would be kind of creepy… But it was an interesting thought.] I suppose we’ll get a better idea of what they know about us when we have a chance to meet them…? I’m not sure as of yet how much control they have over who they bring here, if any.

[The detective’s tone did brighten a little at her offer, it would be good for everyone if they all shared information. Even if he didn’t have a place to keep his notes yet other than the apartment.] Thank you, Aerith. I appreciate that, the more we all know… the better prepared we’ll be.

[He even chuckled a little when she teased him this time,] Mm… That’s very kind of you, I promise it’s only a few. [At least it would start out as a few and then grow from there. The Aspects might regret letting him bother them.] That’s all we can hope for to start, and then we can work our way up from there.

[The constant of ‘bad people’ was disappointing thing to realize, and a worrying one as he discovered just how bad some of them were.

Llewellyn’s voice softened some and held a genuine wish to it when he responded.] I certainly hope that you do. They always slip up eventually, and a good team on your side helps.

“Friends and neighbours, a rather exciting discovery for my first conversation in this world.” After all, as used to unexpected changes as Llewellyn was in his life, it was still a new place he was going to be living… It would still be strange and a bit of an adjustment considering what he’d gotten rather used to before.

“It’s mm… good to know I’ll actually already be acquainted with someone who lives there.”

"I suppose I'm more shocked that more than one world existed that were like Sphere."

But they would figure this out. Puzzles could be so very fun.

"Of course I will," Rhy promised with a grin. He'd ask their server. No doubt that would be enough. "And you'll help us navigate."
