Speaking Crystal
[Mid-morning, a familiar voice rings out over the crystals.]
Good morning, everyone! We trust you've settled in well! We'd like to meet you all formally and invite you to join us in the fountain square this afternoon! We look forward to seeing you there!
Who; The Aspects (Halcyn & Athony) and YOU!
What; The Aspects welcome their new summons to Aterat
Where; The Fountain Square
When; Thursday; Mid-day
Warnings; None I can think of. Will update if necessary
The Fountain square remains unchanged from your arrival, the multiple tiers containing archways all dim save for the one from which Halcyn and her counterpart, Athony, step at the appointed time. Around the fountain, though, have gathered artisans, performers, and salesman as well as recruiters. People are looking for clerks, delivery persons, and people to run small tasks for them. There are leatherworkers interested in hiring intrepid individuals to acquire more exotic skins for their trade and various other ways to earn coin.
And then there is a larger stall built into the back of a large covered wagon pulled by two oxen. It's set off a little ways from the others, either to set itself apart from the vulgus or simply to afford it room. Two people dressed smartly stand a bit apart from it and will encourage any passersby to come speak with the clerk behind the desk. Emblazoned across the side in intricate gold leaf are the letters "MGB" and the callers will inform anyone inquiring they are representatives of the Merchant's Guild Bank, and that they are willing to negotiate investment in any business ventures newcomers may be interested in...for a modest cut, of course. They assure the contract is thoroughly negotiable and urge you to speak with the broker in the carriage.
All business dealings cease when the portal on the highest level of the fountain activates and Halcyn and Athony step through. She is tall, lithe, with flowing red hair and an aura of goodness and life that overrides any attempts to read her mind. He has a darker aura, clad in deep gray armor with a gem-encrusted sword at his hip and a formidable shield strapped to his back. The murk around his mind is just as difficult to pierce, and anyone sensative to the flow of time would sense these two seem to exist as though apart from it.
They descend the dias to stand at ground level, equal to the gathered crowd, but when Halcyn speaks, her soft melodious voice carries as though its amplified, though there seems to be no source of amplification save for a subtle vibration of magic those sensative to it may sense.
"I'm so glad you all came!" She claps her hands together, clasping them before her before spreading her arms wide. "We have so much work to do, as I've told you all already. We have been tasked with the reconstruction of this world, and we simply can't without all of you. The reason why is complicated, but I can assure you we require nothing of any of you that you are not capable of." She motions around at the square and all those gathered here.
"The people of Aterat are eager to welcome you as well, but Athony and myself will remain around should you wish to speak more privatly. Again, thank you all for coming!"
With that, the gathering dispurses into it's former form, though the Aspects remain should anyone wish to speak with them.
Feel free to post top levels to meet and greet your fellow arrivals and to explore the offerings of this strange new city.
Throughout the city, not only today, but at random times, a new rhyme seems to have been picked up by the children at play, skipping rope or playing hopscotch, or dancing in a strange circle. There's a haunting quality to it, but maybe that's only because no one's taken notice of its existence before:
Traveler, traveler, what do you seek?
Riches and fame make oaken souls weap.
Traveler, traveler, watch where you're led.
One turn left, three turns right will take you to bed.
Traveler, traveler, try not to get lost.
The dwellers in the mirk may well be the cost.

He folded his arms lightly, tilting his head with a vaguely mischievous glint in his eye. Let the game begin.

Syeira had no intention of lying and even if there was a small chance that he'd answer directly, she would be able to see it and know the answer. It was one choice of many.
"I am a seer. I can see the past and future. I am human but I am one of the Septian's." She didn't see a reason to keep this from him. It was true that she wasn't supposed to tell normal people but no one who had been brought to this world was normal... so it was okay here.
Hopefully.

It was a pity he didn’t hold the same thoughts on arriving here, though his situation was a tad different from her own. The conditions that he was bound to unfortunately made it hard to trust someone right away, other fae would have little problem with speaking of what they were by comparison.
Caelan was a bit slow when he spoke next, trying to decide best on how to live up to his side of the bargain on answering her question. “I suppose I can confirm, I’m not human... I’m not a demon or anything so nasty as that, if that helps.”
(ooc: I couldn’t remember if we were going to handwave this thread or not, and I didn’t want to leave it untagged! I’m totally fine with hand waving from here and starting something new in October.)

That didn't mean that there weren't accidents and that she wasn't hunted for what she could do but the whole clan did what they could to keep her safe and Syeira tried to keep them safe in return.
"It does. I know that there are a few not human types. Were's and the Shapers and the Fea though I don't think they have lived on Earth for quite some time and... vampires but there are even less of them, I think. I'm not sure." She had never attended school but her Mami taught her the important pieces of information. "All these races are connected by the weave and in the war of Creation."

The selkie supposed he did know of beings who ‘weaved,’ they were higher than even the high fae. Separate, but still connected in a way. Though he had never come across them in his life, not in any of his travels... They didn’t tend to be the sociable sort. At least not unless they had a good reason to be.
Of course, there was one bit of curiosity that still nagged at Caelan a bit. “So... Even though none of us are of your world, or are even connected to it, you can still see things?”
no subject
"I can see the weave of time here but it isn't connected to another weave. The only threads that connect are through the people brought here. Those threads aren't severed. So I can look back into another's weave should I follow that thread." It was difficult and not something she wanted to do because the feeling of displacement made her feel nauseous.
"Can I ask... what are you? Are you like me? Something... not entirely human? Even though you look human."
no subject
Now that was interesting... To be able to see other ‘weaves’ purely through those who had been brought here. “So... Is that something you can control or does it just sometimes happen without you attempting to. Such as when we shook hands?” He asked because it seemed to him that she had been startled enough herself when she shook his hand, the curiosity following that was natural by extent. He doubted that would be pleasant, who knew what sorts of people were here.
Her question gives him a little pause though, the more he revealed the more exposed he felt. Still, Syeira had continued to answer his own questions, so... “That’s a complicated answer... It’s even been debated on occasion in my world. The best I can say about my kind would be that I am something of a balance. Between a specific aspect of nature and magic.” And of course, he didn’t look early as human as he did without the glamour charms he carefully applied before going out among people.

A lot of people were mean.
"I can control it but I also can't. I see all the future's, all the time. The past is easier. Sometimes I see things by accident. Things that are on the surface of someone's thoughts. You are worried about being discovered and it made it easy to see." She probably shouldn't have spoken without thinking.
She looked up at Caelan and smiled. "You sound beautiful!" Like a very rare flower that should be protected.

Of course, the selkie tilted his head to the side with an intrigued expression. So... “So it was my being mindful of not being discovered that brought it to the forefront and you saw on accident... I think I understand now.” His smile continued to grow a little more genuine. Caelan was starting to get the feeling that the woman was definitely as she seemed. Probably not a danger, and perhaps even trustworthy.
His small, musical laugh was indeed pleased at the compliment, “Some might say so, but thank you. Kind words from such a lovely person like yourself.” Yes, the selkie would still be cautious, but was definitely warming up to her.
